New Regime and FA
 

Does anybody else get the feeling that this new regime is going to be so much more competent, aggressive, and successful in the free agent market? I know I do. Payton has been all business so far. He's already hired a complete coaching staff, in less than two months. I've seen stories about him being seen all over the place, the Senior Bowl practices, different colleges, always doing something productive. But perhaps most importantly, he's got a plan, as follows:

1. Evaluate old coaching staff. If needed, bring in new coaches to replace incompetent ones. Check.
2. Set up a coaching staff that fits his style and will include guys who instill discipline. Check.
3. Evaluate current players on the team. Formulate a game-plan about what to do about problem areas. In-process. 4. Formulate a game-plan for this year's free agency market. In-process. 5. Formulate a plan for the 2006 draft. In process. This guy has laid out a map of what his new staff needs to accomplish. So far he's completed everything that is possible for him to complete. He just really seems like he's focused on the goal of making this team a winner. Thoughts?

Duece, a well thought out and articulated post. I agree with you that things looks good so far. I'd like more reporting from ESPN etc, about the progress being made, but the Saints just arn't considered a "sexy" team. The only time they get any coverage is when they're on a huge roll (or the tragedy of Katrina). I mean we've heard that Culpepper is upset with Minnesota and that the Jets are (trying) to renegotiate Pennington's contract, but not word one on the progress of our front office.

I think the additude of this year's draft will reflect our sucess/failure during the Free Agency period. If we do well in filling holes with FA's then there might not be a need for a draft day trade. But if we can't pull anybody in AND get no compensitory picks, then a draft day trade might be in order. Though I doubt it. An offensive minded coach with a chance to mold a top flight rookie prospect rarely misses the opportunity to do just that.

Great interpretation.
I think he means buisness and will run his staff and team as such. I just hope the FO keeps their hands off him and allows him to make personel decisions. There is only one direction for the team to go after last season (lets hope). But in all seriousness He is taking things in stride and laying out the tasks and most importantly doing the right things.

There is little to no news about the team up hear so all I get is off the net, but from what I have been reading there could be a nice change of tide.
