Possibilities for a Veteran QB

According to the latest rumors from SI, the Redskins would be willing to part with former first round pick, Patrick Ramsey, for a 4th round pick. I think that would be a good deal for a quality QB, without having to break the bank. He has connections to New Orleans having played at Tulane, and would be a good alternative should the Saints want to bring Leinart along slowly. Although, I believe Leinart is the most NFL-ready QB in the Draft. Even still, Ramsey would make a really great back-up.

John Clayton was on the Mike & Mike show this morning, and claimed that he thinks Ramsey could be had for as little as a 6th round pick, to which Greenberg quickly replied with, "hey, I'll give them TWO." (He's a Jets fan, btw).
Wouldn't bother me, regardless of who we pick, I would prefer that they not see any action during their first year.

Let's average it out. We'll say a 5th. So, you would be willing to give up a fifth for Ramsey?

Introducing THE starting QB for YOUR 2006 New Orleans Saints.....Patrick Ramsey.

Does that answer your question? :P

That does not sound bad. I feel that it would allow us to concentrate and other areas this team needs fixin in the draft if we were to go that route.

Gibbs is a Head Coach that can evalute talent. He doesn't need the best QB to win, just a smart game manager. He won a SuperBowl with Mark Ripien for gods sake. If Gibbs doesn't think he's good enough to be a backup, what's that say?

I'd still rather have Kitna.

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

For a stop-gap, 1 year and your done, quick fix? I'd rather have Kitna too, but I wouldn't be opposed to Ramsey, either, especially so cheap.

Do you expect the Saints to contend next year?

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

Glad to see that you agree, FJ. I think Ramsey would be well worth a 5th round pick. I believe that Ramsey has a lot of talent. He has been given a raw deal by the Redskins over the last several years.

He he. Hey I'm not contrary to everything mjf. Just a few things. ;0)

I'd take the chance for a 5th or 6th rounder. Ramsey has a great arm. He was highly regarded the year he came out. However, after he received the David Carr treatment, he's kinda' skiddish in the pocket now.

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

BnB, contend? Yes, in every game they play. Win? Probably not. Statistically new QBs (whether rookies or pickups) and new HCs don't do well their first year.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing the stupid mistakes disappear (false starts, offsides, etc.) and the team play more cohesively. I think we'll lose games by less than four on average. And I'd like to see the FO take this year seriously and put money AND THOUGHT into each acquisition. I’d like to see this team end no worse than 8-8 and be even more competitive than that. It’s a tough division with Carolina always playing well, Tampa’s D never seeming to have an off year, and Vick just being Vick in Atlanta always makes for a wild game.

I'd love to say this or that pickup or draft would make the team this year, but it's probably not going to happen.

And the starting quarterback for the 2006 Saints is.... *drum roll*

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaron Brooooooksssssss!

:cursing:

I'll take Ramsey for a year... I'd rather have Rattay though.

What's the base salary on Ramsey that would be inherited? 3 mil or less take him.

BJSim 02-28-2006 03:57 PM

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

It's under 2mil. Not bad if he's a starter.

FanNJ 02-28-2006 04:05 PM

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

Not bad at all.
Hell even as a backup, he's about the same price as Bouman and has had starting experience and some sucess. Not alot but Some.

I don't think Kitna's going anywhere with the Palmer injury.

BJSim 02-28-2006 04:09 PM

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

Kitna will go where ever he's promised starting time. I don't think that'll be Cinci. and as I've said before... he's mentored a USC QB and I think he can do it again.

a 5th rounder or 6th rounder would be fine

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

Ramsey or Kitna or how bout both and get rid of Bouman too, AMAC at the three. We drop 3 or 4 slots in the draft pick up a boat load of other players along with Hawk at number 5 or 6 and call it good, real good.

Never, ever give up. I think we are alot closer to my scenario happening in the draft than ever.

Ramsey for a fifth done deal. Give him a shoot and see what payton can do with him.

not a bad idea cherm.

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

I like the idea too. But I like Kitna better than Ramsey. He has shown more pluses to me. Sign him to a one year deal, and cut only Bouman. Give Brooks a reason to fight for #1, instead of giving it to him.

FanNJ 03-02-2006 11:01 AM

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

Bouman should be cut...Period. I'd be willing to see Brooks for one year and one only under new management, with a viable alternative to push and challange as I think the new ragime will be quick to pull the trigger on players when needed.

RE: Possibilities for a Veteran QB

I'd rather have Ramsey or Rattay...Payton is a good qb coach and I think he could do some real good with either of those guys, Kitna I am not so sure about...9th year in the NFL, plus I think he should have known that offense well enough (started for 3 years) that he should have been able to do better against the Steelers in the playoffs...Heres the plan:
1. Sign Ramsey for a 4, 5, or 6 pick
2. Draft AJ Hawk or another outstanding LB in the first round
3. Sign a over corner in FA (eg. Sam Madison new FA)
4. Draft a DT or OL in the second round
