Quality Player Cut
The probable lack of a CBA is causing teams to cut quality players they just can't afford. I'll try to keep this updated as they happen, but help is always appreciated. Cuts so far:
Denver: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2350136 Trevor Pryce (DE) Mike Anderson (RB) Jeb Putzier (TE) Buffalo: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2349818 Sam Adams (DT) Lawyer Malloy (S) Mark Campbell (TE) Miami: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2350228 Damion McIntosh (OT) Carolina: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2350090 Stephen Davis (RB) Rod Smart (RB) Brentson Buckner (DT) Texans: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2348722 Marcus Coleman (S) Tony Banks (QB) Tony Hollings (RB) |
RE: Quality Player Cut
yeah man i am hoping thius agreement gets done. if not at leats we have some dead weight to cut
|
RE: Quality Player Cut
Nice thing is if the deal doesn't get done, we're still under the cap. Plus cutting Brooks and Bouman means even more available for some of the truly talented player that become available.
|
RE: Quality Player Cut
Can we please pursue Mr. Adams and Mr. Buckner. How long has it been since we had a dominating DT? Wasn't it when we were in the playoffs?
|
RE: Quality Player Cut
exactly. although i still think it will be in our favor for the deal to get done.
|
RE: Quality Player Cut
I'm waiting for Tampa Bay to HAVE to make it's cuts. Think about players like Derrick Brooks or Shelton Quarles in our linebacking core. Man that'd be sweet.
|
RE: Quality Player Cut
then you have to wonder what such players will be asking. that may make it tough to sign them
|
RE: Quality Player Cut
This year will be a buyers market. NEXT year with no CBA the Saints might as well pack it in, Benson will NOT pay what would be needed in a non-cap year. But get a couple of these guys signed with one year contracts to wins some games.
|
The real team to watch out for is the Washington Redskins. Lavar Arrington is said to be on his way out and I would love to add him to LB core. Think about him, Watson, and maybe someone like Bobby Carpenter next year. Wow!
|
You don't cut a guy that's only going to save you a couple hundred thou when you need to drop 17 million. They'll keep Lavar.
Oh and welcome to the boards. |
Good arguement and you are right. That may be just wishful thinking on my part. Good to see that guys on this site are knowledgable and dispute things with facts.

long term, this is very, very bad. :( |
RE: Re: RE: Quality Player Cut
The Boo Williams thread has the link, but Rice would be paid $9.2mm this year and if cut saves Tampa 2.8mm. It's hard to think of who'd they cut for sure.

RE: Re: RE: Quality Player Cut
Sam Madison got cut also, but I think we shold go after Brooks or Quarles or Buckner. Most guys will be willing to take a little less to go against their old team 2 times a year. I like Buckner, Madison, and Quarels. That way we concetrate on a OLB and O line in the Draft.... and MAYBE a QB haha.
|
Buckner sucks and is old, and Adams is just old. I'd pass on both and wait to see who else is let go. Noone would ever hear of Buckner if not for Jenkins and Peppers. And he is like 34 or something.
|
I say we focus on linebackers in free agency, and draft a defensive tackle in the second round.
|
All this turmoil can not be good. But hey maybe this is NO's year. God don't you just love this time of year.
Seriously there are alot of players that will be walking. Alot. There may be some significant changes, at least NO is below the cap. |

... anyway, I wouldn't get too excited just yet... a lot of those guys will be going back to their teams with reworked contracts... ... on a side note, it is amazing that those idiots in the NFLPA are trying their best to kill the proverbial goose... |
We should definately go after Sam Adams. This wooly mammoth will definately plug up the inside.

RE: Re: RE: Quality Player Cut
I think it would be best if the deal gets done. It would be awesome to have a lot of those guys but the last thing I would want is for football to have the MLB syndrome. Biggest wallet wins. I personally like the structure of the NFL. It seems as if every year...any team could win it. But if it does not go through....then the Saints should definitely take advantage of the situations in TB and Washington for sure.

RE: Re: RE: Quality Player Cut
We are to cheap and the $$$ for #2 will be high against the cap. I see F/A at C,G and MLB to be the saint's target. They come in the cheapest.

RE: Re: RE: Quality Player Cut
More players are cut today:
Kansas City: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2351727 Eric Warfield (CB) Shawn Barber (LB) Dexter McCleon (CB) Gary Stills (LB) Still waiting for the whole-sale slaughter that will be Washington. |
