I guess what they say IS true........
You can't please all the people all the time. I would think that get a player of Brees' talent in a needed position would get EVERY Saints fan cheering on the new staff, but that isn't the case. I would say some of you are infatuated with losing. Then again I would venture to say you think the same for me. I just don't want to be sitting on draft day forced to draft a single player.

RE: I guess what they say IS true........
brees had good number the last two years and they didn't have great wdieouts there either. great tight end but not great wide outs. i have seen him play and looks good to me. i'd like to getb the guy. we also have to remember that agents in this league work off of relationships. burn a team and you are likely to get a bad rep. they can't afford that. noone is going to try to make one pay check and at the same time cut their own throat.

Other than the Brooks Army, everyone is happy with the new staff... I have not seen anyone post anything derogatory about the new staff.. that some of us have concerns about Drew Brees' health and actual ability to throw the ball, that doesn't mean we are not happy to see the activity... ..now, I think you are over-estimating Drew Brees.. I like the guy: I like his attitude, the way he plays, and he did very well the past couple years in S.D., but he ain't going to the HoF, and honest to goodness no one can tell for certain how his shoulder is going to heal, because it is not healed yet... |
RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
TR - That is what I am talking about right there. You don't have to post anything derogatory about them. To state that the decision for Brees would be bad has the same effect. I love Saints fans because of our passion for the team. I think we get carried away sometimes.

tobias your point is valid because i had originally said it scared the hell out of me. i guess i just started to look at it different with mueller chasing him and saban. not that they also couldn't be wrong but i think they are both smart guys. of course it is a worry though but i would hope that the people making decisions especially oover so much money would be smart enough to know or at least have a feeling how his arm will be. noone can know for sure though.

Yeah, I like the new staff, now, they have'nt even coached a prcatice yet though, and we dont know their intentions for AB..I say offer him as a consolation prize to the Dolphins if we get Brees...Pesonally I dont think we need to be looking at that TE from the cowboys, I think we need a filler since we dropped Hall and Boo...We still have Meier also, ok not impressed, I just dont want some high proced FA that has a relationship with the coach to bump out a guy who has worked hard to get to the front of the line like Hilton has....Hilton has that big tall frame and good hands, we know Brees likes those guys at TE...
By the way, spkb25 Brees has had Keenan McCardell at WR for the last 1.5 years, I'd say he is a good reciever |

I just think that most of the Brees resistance is a direct result of the widespread unconditional infatuation with Leinart.
The injury concerns are definitely valid, but others are questioning his numbers by the fact that he had Gates to throw to and LT as his running back, when Leinart only had Bush, White, Jarrett, and Byrd in his offense. Most everyone who was either indifferent toward Leinart or hated him thinks that signing Brees would be a great move. I think if/when it happens those other fans will see that it is better logic to sign a proven QB and address the o line or D with our draft pick. |
RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
equally good points gold. i think if we don't get him we can still always draft matt. that is a pretty good position to be in. no?
|
RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
Nobody has seen him play since his injury. I think having concerns about his ability to throw after a torn rotator cuff is legit and natural.

RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
Deuce here is my problem, this is something we should be rallying around. This is not some "well if this doesn't happen we can just get someone else to fill the spot and still have a playoff shot." Contrary to popular belief a rookie QB WILL not get us into the playoffs. Especially with the other question marks at other postions. My problem is not the skeptisism about Brees' injury. My problem is that getting a FA QB that we weren't even expecting to be in the hunt for a week ago, is not being praised by some fans. Last year the coaching staff wouldn't have even gave Brees a second look, and now we have a staff that is in the forefront on a position of need we should all be excited. I am sorry some are not.

RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
Who wasn't praising him? I think everybody here knows Brees is good, hell, he's a Pro Bowler. But his injury is just scary.

RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
I hav made it clear that it is good to be skeptical about him, but some people on here, maybe not you particularly, want to throw the baby out with the bath water. If that is not you then none of my comments are pointed to you. So it isn't a matter of not praising Brees it is a matter of people getting upset with the team for wanting him to join our team, or maybe I am reading some of these posts wrong.

RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
Deuce, it's nice to have one person with the same opinion. Brees would be a major upgrade as long as he is fully recovered. You never know, and I feel uneasy throwing soo much money at a guy who is coming off a severe injury to his shoulder. Also, a lot of people want to sign Brees because "he will help us win now." I'd love to be optimistic but regardless of who is our qb, it's going to be very difficult for us to make the playoffs with our schedule, which is the most difficult schedule in the NFL. If we sign Brees to a short-term contract, draft Leinart and let Matt learn from Drew I'd say it would be a good idea. I don't feel comfortable signing Brees to a long-term deal, guaranteeing most of his money early in the contract. This would make it virtually impossible to draft Leinart and we would be taking a huge gamble on a guy who may never return to his former self.

And I am not a fan of Leinart, by any means. I can see signing Brees for a incentive based contract or a backend loaded contract but who nows five months from now how he will be able to perform. That's alot of eggs for one basket |
