I'm happy we finally signed someone... but I'm hardly satisfied. I like the guy but he's not a impact guy... where is our enforcer dammit?!

RE: We signed Scott Fujita

papz, it might be coming in the draft via AJ Hawk if we can just ink Brees.

papz 03-13-2006 04:20 PM

RE: We signed Scott Fujita

IF! How much more money do we need to throw at the guy before he signs... greedy bastard! He's milking the crap out of us.

RE: We signed Scott Fujita

I also feel that if we don't sign Brees, we can draft a lb in the 2nd round who can have an immediate impact. This years linebacker class is very deep, we will be getting a lb with 1st round talent in the 2nd round.

RE: We signed Scott Fujita

I like the signing of Fujita. He will bring some much needed playmaking ability. Here is the Expert's take from ESPN Insider

Fujita is a tall rangy linebacker who has long arms. He delivers a great blow and plays with good leverage on the line of scrimmage. He has a knack for getting rid of blockers and does not stay blocked. He finds a way to get to the ball. He has very good upper body strength and has very good block protection. He is a long strider who shows the ability to run plays down from behind. He can accelerate to finish a play and shows good ability to come off the edge and challenge the offensive tackle to the corner. He does an excellent job of getting hands on and re-routing receivers and shows good awareness in zone coverage. He is fluid in his movement and does a good job with play recognition. He is somewhat vulnerable to low blocks and does not have the initial foot quickness or the running ability to stay with tight ends beyond a short area. However, he plays with good intelligence and takes advantage of angles. He has good change of direction skills and gets a great break on the ball. He is a very aggressive hitter who wraps his arms on the ball carrier. He plays with a good level of intensity and is a very productive player.

Saints | Fujita's deal is for four years
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 14:52:22 -0800

NewOrleansSaints.com reports New Orleans Saints LB Scott Fujita's new deal with the Saints is for four years. No financial terms were disclosed.

Looks like he'll be around for a few years.

He's not Sedrick Hodge....That makes me happy

RE: We signed Scott Fujita

great pick up, now get brees and draft hawk. it can happen.

dwiley21 03-13-2006 06:21 PM

YES! one good signing down and a few more to go! Brees is just trying to drive up the price. The saints made the mistake of coming out and saying they would out-bid anyone, so why not visit Miami to let them make N.O. sweeten up the offer. Now we need to see if we can get upgraded at the O-line and a starting CB.

and defensive tackle...and the other linebacker positions....and place kicker....and tight end....and wide receiver.....are we starting to see the trend here?

jrmllb 03-13-2006 06:30 PM

YES YES YES....Finally we sign somebody...maybe others will follow...Maybe they wont be as hesitant now that we got decent FA to sign...You guys think we need to sign another DE to compliment the Manimal Will Smith???

Yes, except the guy I had in mind is Charles Grant.

D_it_up 03-13-2006 06:32 PM

We already have one that compliments Will Smith....His name is Charles Grant....Now if we could just get some defensive tackles worth a damn, then the line would be near unstoppable.

papz 03-13-2006 06:33 PM

Charles Grant had one bad year and now people are jumping off the wagon... geez where's the loyalty? He's going to have at least 8 sacks next year and then people will jump back on. Enough with all this Super Mario crap... we have two good ends already.

D_it_up 03-13-2006 06:35 PM

wow....you can tell 3 people who are big on Grant right away. Papz, BMG, and I jumped on that reply like a fat kid does cake.

GoldRush26 03-13-2006 06:36 PM

Yeah....I am bewildered at how John Clayton could say that the Saints would select Mario Williams. Probably better than both Smith and Grant, but we have much more pressing needs.

wheelman 03-13-2006 06:37 PM

^But the FO doesn't know how to draft anything else.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering this right, but isn't "super" mario the same guy that D'Brick beat like a stepchild all senior bowl week? Seems to me we would be happier with the LT that owned Mario rather than Mario.

dwiley21 03-13-2006 06:41 PM

how bout a qb cuz as of this moment we still don't have one !

jrmllb 03-13-2006 07:01 PM

I was impressed with D'brick...I also liked that OL from miami Winston Justice...speaking of DT guys I looked at some draft boards today and Wroten and Kyle Williams are dropping like rocks...could they be there for our two second round picks we get for our First round #2 after we trade out of it of course when we sign brees

gandhi1007 03-13-2006 07:12 PM

Fujita? The guy's decent, but by no means an enforcer at LB. Just an average NFL LB (which is still a step up for us at the LB postion). Our front office is some cheap bastards! There are much better LB's out there, but we want the cheapest guy we can sign. I mean if you can give AB a six year-$48 million deal, surely you could offer Lavar Arrington some moolah.

AllSaints 03-13-2006 07:14 PM

good sign i still wouldnt mind arrington peterson , breees draft hawk....

Good point BMG. Mario might be good, but saying he's better than Will Smith and Charles Grant right now before he's played a down in the NFL is a stretch.

And who said that Charles Grant had a bad year? He had more tackles than Will Smith, and even though his sack numbers were down, he did take on double teams almost every play that helped free up Brian Young and Willie Whitehead allowing them to amass 51 and 35 tackles a piece, repsectively. Trust me, if we get a good DT who can take some of the double teams off Grant, we'll see the same kind of guy who had 80 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and 3 FF in 2004. The guy is a BEAST, we have absolutely NO NEED to draft a DE. That is actually the only position that we can totally ignore this offseason.

Sure he's not the best LB out there, but he's the 7th best LB in FA, and he comes at a pretty reasonable price from what I understand.

Also, Brooks plays QB which demands A LOT more money than the LB position. You can't compare their salaries.

Also, Arrington has NO interest in playing here. He wants to go to the Giants, Dolphins, Browns, or Vikings (probably in that order).

Agreed... trust me I love Charles Grant. But I can sure pull up some old threads about people saying how badly he played last year and I was going with that. I told he was solid because he took on so many double teams last year... his run defense struggled a bit though but he should rebound nicely and become as dominant as years past. I can agree with everything you just said. Grant is the man...

Hmmm I think you are thinking about Mathias Kiwanuka from B.C. Mario Williams is an underclassman so he wasn't at the Senior Bowl, if I'm not mistaken

O.K., Arrington will be expensive. Why not Julian Peterson or Cato June? The answer is because Fujita is cheap!

dulplay 03-13-2006 08:23 PM

I like the Fujita pickup, like others have said its an improvement over Hodge. A solid starter. No thanks on Lavar Arrington, and Im not very familiar with Cato June. I'm in the Charles Grant Lovers club though, I think he's going to have a monster year. What DT are left in the FA pool? Wonder why he havent seen any activity there?

turbo_dog 03-13-2006 08:35 PM

It's a step in the right direction, so I like this signing.

On another note... SOMEBODY SIGNED HODGE?!!!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The other answer is that Fujita played with almost all of our defensive coaches at some point or another. He canhelp the other players get in step with the new defense that will be going in. Come on Fujita had an off year b/c he did not play all 16 games last year b/c Dallas was deep in the LB position, look at his production other than last year. Last year he started 8 games, the other years he started almost all of them and registered over 100 tackles.

I think Lavar is over-hyped and not who I would like to see in NO, peterson or june yes, arrington; no.
