Dolphins | Brees reportedly prefers Miami

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports sources indicated that free agent QB Drew Brees (Chargers) preferred the Miami Dolphins over the New Orleans Saints even though the Saints made a more lucrative offer when he visited them Saturday, March 11, and Sunday, March 12.

that's been known. the sticking point is the money. if it was strictly up to the location, he would have signed with miami by now.

... while the Saints are offering the most guaranteed money to play football, Brees would have a chance to make much much more money in endorsements if he goes to Miami, which could easily compensate - if not sweeten the deal - for the money guaranteed to only play football...

I like Brees. I think he's a good QB, much better than what we're used to. However, do we really need a QB that thinks of our team as his "second choice". Despite the fact that the Saints have offered him more money, he still would rather play for the Dolphins. We need a QB that wants to play for us. A QB that would be greatful to play for our team. Not someone who would settle for us because the other team wouldn't offer him the same amount of money.

i think edge james preferred indy too. i'm happy either way if leinart follows or passes the carson palmer train of success. i just hope the FO has some other irons in the fire and aren't sitting on their hands waiting for a response.

as far as wanting to play, leinart has said the right things but do you think he would pick NO over the Jets? FAs just get to make it a little clearer unless you have some incredible negotiating leverage like eli did.

Bad news??? This isn't bad news... the fans don't want Brees in SD why should we? Pass him on by, he also may have benefited from a top notch OL and D not to mention a guy known by 2 letters as his RB.

This is from ESPNInsider's John Clayton. It makes me believe that the Dolphins are scared about the shoulder, BUT, if they can determine that the shoulder is strong enough not to be a problem, then they'll probably add more money. Just my opinion

Of the four qbs which one would you like to see under center for the saints...Brees, Brooks, Bouman, or A Mac?

The paper is just rooting for the home team. Personally I'm getting a little feed up with Brees. Even if he picks us, I won't feel the same about him. He has every right to do what is best for himself and his family but I feel betrayed because we were the first to call.

First to call? It's not the prom... it's the NFL. He's got to do whats best for him. Brees is coming from a team with a good OL and he still go injured. Don't you think his Agent is telling him what we all know? The Saints have a bad OL and it's even worse now that Bentley is gone, and a RB that's coming off an injury. Miami has a solid RB in Brown (bye bye Williams) and a good OL. Where would you want to go? My pick would be the team least likely to get me injured... i.e. Miami.

I understand all of the above as I said, but it's not going to change my pissoff. I would want to go where I would do the most good. If that's not NO, I don't know what is. Then he said "he liked challenges." The challenge could be no tougher here and if successful, he walks on water.

... it does seem clear now that Brees wants to go to the Dolphins, and he and his agent are going to try squeezing as much money as possible out of the Dolphins, rather than take the better deal - as far as guaranteed money - that the Saints have offered.

..I mean, if they were asking for more, ok, I say Brees is open on where he wants to play, but they are only asking the Dolphins not even to match but to merely get close to what the Saints are offering...

Honestly guys, no one in their right mind would want to come QB for the Saints if they thought they could get a legitimate shot at the playoffs/Super Bowl somewhere else.

The New Orleans Saints? Guys, I bleed black and gold, but who are we kidding? The only people who desire to play for the Saints are people who grew up in Louisiana or atleast in the Gulf Coast region.

Who wants to marry an ugly woman when you can have a pretty one?

i'm willing to cut someone a day or two of slack to make a decision over several million dollars of difference no matter what two franchises or cities you are talking about. i don't have any beef if the only reason a player comes here is cuz we offered more moolah than anyonr else. again, i don't think the cards fans have any illusion about why edge james is going there. it's just about winning, winning business decisions.

PS- anyone notice it ended up sounding a whole lot more the dolphins deciding than brees with the culpepper trade?
