See ya Leinart

Well, it looks like with the addition of our new franchise quarterback that the team would be best served by trading out of the #2 pick and getting more picks. This would allow us to draft Hawk or Brick or somebody else. Even though I love Leinart, I think this is better for the franchise.

RE: See ya Leinart

i agree deuce...whatever team does get leinart will be very lucky.

saintswhodi 03-14-2006 01:44 PM

Getting Brees was the right thing to do. We just opened up th whole draft to us. AND with the cap room we have, noone can be sure we WON'T still take Leinart, giving us yet more leverage. We could return the favor of the Ricky Williams draft to some team, cause we are no longer pigeon holed in out selection. Smart move by the team.

Getting Brees was exactly the right thing to do. With Brees, Payton can make things happen NOW! My biggest problem is that we are going to show Fumbles the Clown the door and Whodi will not be able to say how much potential AB had and what a wonderful QB he could be in 250 years. Remember, Whodi, great stats. :cursing:

who was this AB dude anyway LOL

jrmllb 03-14-2006 02:10 PM

Great Move, I think it was the right one for the team...We got a leader

FatiusJeebs 03-14-2006 02:10 PM

For once whodi......I agree with ya. (Shocking news....Jeebs agrees with Whodi. More at 11:00) Truth is.....with Brees at the helm....we can now use the draft to fill plenty of needs. I say....lets get Hawk.

gandhi1007 03-14-2006 02:12 PM

Don't be surprised if we still draft Leinart. We had Ricky Williams & had other needs, but still drafted Deuce in 2001. Now that we've signed Brees I would like to snag A.J. Hawk, but taking Leinart wouldn't be a bad pick either. Now he would have a competent QB to groom him. :)

RDOX 03-14-2006 02:20 PM

No matter what happens three things are for certain:

1. We have a proven leader at QB
2. We have a coach who ain't tied to convention.
3. AB is on the midnight train to Georia, back to the car wash owned by his cousin.

AllSaints 03-14-2006 03:45 PM

........ well..... i was the biggest leinart fan........ but hey we still might get him !!!!!!!!!! but probly not go get the kid fergoson or hawk.,.....

I know I'm on my own on this one but I'd rather have Leinart and build around him. He is going to be a stud and I'm frustrated that we passed on him While I'd love to have him in Black and Gold it wouldn't make sense for us to draft him. I'm among the biggest Leinart fans on this forum but I'm hoping that we can find a team to trade down with or we can somehow land Bush.

As a matter of fact, I'm closing on a new house tomorrow. I just couldn't resist the dig since you and I both love Fumbles so much. I am excited about this deal and I believe that we have a coach who will make things happen. I am curious about what will happem with Brees and the tight end that was with the Cowboys will do. I'd get him, keep Conwell, and develop Hilton. The Brees/Gates connection will be the Brees/Hilton Connection. Conwell is the player coach for one more season. I think we need the Left Tackle kid Brick wall or whatever his name is. With Brown on the Right, and this kid on the left, Stinchcomb as guard (which he is more comfortable being) we can get a center and keep Holland as left guard. We'd be set on the line. I'd also pick up a RB around 3-4 in the draft as insurance. Any other Ideas???

I wonder if you are more of a Leinart fan or Saints fan. A lot of us love the guy, but we are doing more good for the team by getting Brees and using our top draft pick on D. Defensive rookies impact NFL teams faster, and we would be a better team with Brees and Hawk, as opposed to Leinart and (insert second round or third round LB here).

LivnaLieTimay 03-14-2006 04:16 PM

GoldRush, I just thought Leinart would be the best move for our franchise. It's a different opinion from obviously everyone else. I'll come around to the signing and I really do hope that I'm wrong. I just have my doubts on Brees and I think Leinart's going to be a stud. But, you know, in the end if we can build our franchise with a solid D we can turn it around.

BJSim 03-14-2006 04:24 PM

Timay, you keep being the voice of decent. It's OK man I'm with you. I was really hoping Brees would go to Miami & we'd draft Leinart. Now that Brees is a Saint, I'll defend him and look for the good in this. But it wasn't my first choice.

LongTimeFan 03-14-2006 04:31 PM

I still say will draft Leinart, here's why, Brees contract isn't written in stone so their aren't guarantees, I heard today that their is a clause in the contract that says if the Saints feel Brees isn't doing the job as they would expect that they could cut him after this year after paying big bucks, I'm very happy to see we signed a great QB in Brees but make no mistake about it we need to see if he's healthy to play the game as he did before his shoulder injury, so if not we would have Matt.

Actually, there's 10 million in guaranteed money.

LongTimeFan 03-14-2006 04:56 PM

His first year is guaranteed, he's also due 8 mil. bonus this year, that's it, so that brings us to next year, what if for some reason he can't play his game because of his past injury, then what?, you have to draft Leinart/Young just in case things don't work out for Brees which I feel they will work out really good for him and the Saints, I can't see us not thinking of the near future with it comes to the QB situation, we can't afford not to draft a QB this year.

..well, not really... he can't do anything until Brees can throw the ball... but hey..

Welcome to N.O., Drew... hope the shoulder heals just fine... :)
