OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

2nd pick, what is everybody gonna want now?

My preference, trade down to #4 w/ the Jets. And select 'The Hawk'. Forget 'The Brick'. I want a mean SOB in the middle of our defense for the next half decade.

take hawk...even if no one wants to swap picks with us

stockman311 03-14-2006 01:41 PM

RE: OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

Hawk is an OLB not an ILB. I don't think he is the pick.

jergensl 03-14-2006 01:51 PM

RE: OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

urlacher went from safety to ilb...i think hawk can easily move from outside to inside, but lets assume that hawk can only play olb. right now we just have melton and bockwoldt at olb. hawk would be a HUGE upgrade over any of our current olb.

D-buck47 03-14-2006 01:54 PM

RE: OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

I'm sure he could play all 3 LB positons

RE: OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

Why would the jets trade with us now? They know we aren't going to take leinart. If we trade our #1 it will have to be to someone later in the round.

RE: OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

good point kid, but we dont need to trade down, just take him at #2

stockman311 03-14-2006 01:57 PM

RE: OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

I say the pick is D'Brick. Safest choice for the money and fills a need while getting Gandy off the field or possible cut him if Stinchcomb is back healthy.

LKelley67 03-14-2006 01:57 PM

down to #4 adds the jets 2nd rd and 3rd we are missing. that equates to d'brick or hawk, claude wroten, another starting LB or OT, and the 3rd rounder.

c'mon. c'mon jets baby... you want leinart and you know it

The Jets would trade with us now because they know the Titans will definitely take Leinart at 3 and if they want him they have to trade up to get him. We put the Titans and Jets in a bidding war and trade with the team that gives us the most picks.

This is why I sould be the GM.

D-buck47 03-14-2006 02:01 PM

The Titans may take Leinart. Or whoever trades up to get our pick takes him. That gives NY motivation to move up

D-buck47 03-14-2006 02:05 PM

Sorry, must have been typing at the same time as Stockman

BJSim 03-14-2006 02:06 PM

NYJets still have a reason to trade up... D-buck47 is right. Leinart's old OC Chow is at Tennessee so it'd be a perfect fit for them. So if NYJ wants Leinart they have to play ball.

Personally I'd like to see a trade with Denver (don't they have two draft picks this year?). Think about a trade down (yeah it's farther than you guys want) for two 1st rounders this year and one more next... four #1's in two years. That would be awesome. Plus we could always then package two of the four to move back up some.

LKelley67 03-14-2006 02:13 PM

and if the contract is structured to be a 1 or 2 yr deal in reality taking Leinart would still be fine!

ssmitty 03-14-2006 03:46 PM

you know, everyone is so dam sure that bush will be the first selection.....
i am not.............................
i think the smoke screens are up early, but hell, they are every year.........
it's gonna be one cut throat draft for the books, mark my word.................smitty

AllSaints 03-14-2006 03:49 PM

ok how bout this ..... Trade with Texans and draft Bush.......

LivnaLieTimay 03-14-2006 03:52 PM

I'm hoping for Reggie Bush. REG-GIE, REG-GIE, REG-GIE. The guy is a stud and I'm worried bout our backfield now, with Brees coming off a major injury aswell as Deuce. Bush would bring so much excitement to our franchise and a much needed playmaker. He reminds me of LT, and we saw how Brees worked with LT in SD...

Mavrick608 03-14-2006 03:55 PM

i think we should trade to the jets for there stud dt and a 3rd

TheDeuce 03-14-2006 04:32 PM

Here's my plan, which I've said in another post, but in case you didn't see it, here's what I'm feeling. Trade the #2 pick to the Jets. There should be somewhat of a frenzy among this section of the draft order because several teams really want a QB like Leinart. So, after this trade down acquiring a first rounder and a 2nd rounder, we select AJ Hawk with the first round pick, then Nick Mangold with our first 2nd rounder, and then another LB (HOward, Jackson, Hodge, etc) with the other 2nd round pick. I would like to take Brick because he is such a manchild, but I just don't think we can afford to neglect the LB position anymore like we've done for the past 10 years.

D_it_up 03-14-2006 07:03 PM

I'm definitely not for trading with the Broncos. Even though the idea of 2 first rounders sounds great on paper, the idea of not drafting one of the high profile draftees this year doesn't sit well with me. If we trade down, I would go no further than the 5th pick. With that, we'd still be able to get one of the big guys in the draft. I'd be perfectly fine with that.

You guys are forgetting there are quite a few teams that may need a QB other than NYJ and TEN. I have their possible started in parenthesis.

5 Green Bay Packers (Aaron Rodgers)
7 Oakland Raiders (?)
8 Buffalo Bills (I doubt it Losman came on string at the end)
9 Detroit Lions (Is Kitna the answer?)
10 Arizona Cardinals (Someone will be needed to throw and Kurt isn't long term)
11 St. Louis Rams (Jamie Martin and Bulger, they seem to get hurt a lot)

Depending on who we target and how many more selections we want we could easilt move into on of these spots, maybe Hawk Brick is still available, then getting another 2nd and possibly 3rd rounder. Come on take Brick grab one of the other LB's in the second(or two of them)

I know Brees would like to see the bookend tackles of Jamaal and the Brick in front of him. I know I would if I were him.

We could trade with the Jets or Titans (get their 2nd) and trade with with Oakland or GB (depending upon if Favre retires) so Oakland can get VY or Cutler or so GB can and move past the Jets if we go with the Titans. There is so many great players in the top 8 or so of this draft that we could have numerous suitors wanting to move up. Personally I want Brick.

What is it with all the draft "experts" saying we should or will take M Williams? Am I the only person who thinks we are pretty set on DE's? I mean another would be great, but we have far more glaring needs. OL to protect Brees, and LB's to help the defense.

... because the titans are sitting at #3 and Leinart's old OC is there...
... because the Raiders may want to trade for Leinart...
... because the Vikings may want to trade for Leinart...

Trade with Jets, get Brick in the first. Get two LB's in the 2nd, and sing Cory Raymer from Redskins. Line will be Brick, Jacox or Holland (did we resign him?), Raymer, Mayberry, and Brown..... Thats hella good. Dump Brooks somewhere for anything and just cut Gandy. The two LB's plus Fijuta and Fincher and Watson very good. We would need Will Allen too.... OMG I think we may have something :D

i like your scenario deuce...i think it would be the perfect draft for the saints...i also like the thought of 2 dayton boys playing on the saints...there would be many more saints fans here in ohio if we landed hawk and mangold.

u no what! im thinkin that houston will take de brick with the firts pik...huh now lets think about that for a sec.....sign drew and now with the #2 pik n.o. selects reggie bush...unless someone trades up, this could happen....finally somethin good happens in the bayou state....

RE: Re: RE: OK, SO NOW THE DEBATE BEGINS

The Jets would be smart to trade up with the Saints. If they try to call our bluff and dont want to trade, i say pick Leinart anyway ala SD picking Manning even though they had no intention of keeping him. Then we could trade him to the highest bidder.

You won't be able to trade Brooks for a bag of chips. To think so is a pipe dream. Everyone in the league knows that Brooks will be cut June 1st. Loomis has stated that Brooks' tenure in New Orleans is over, and the signing of Brees confirms that.

Any team that actually wants Brooks has to do nothing other than wait until June 1st when he's available.

Trading Brooks means accepting his $6+ million salary figure for next year. Only a fool of a GM would do that when you can work out a new cap friendly contract with Brooks in June.

Dude, the guy is gone from New Orleans. There's no need to kick dirt on that situation or to expect any value in return. I mean isn't Brooks worthless? That's what I've been reading here for the last 3 years. So why would you expect to get something for him especially when it's a lose-lose situation for the trading team?
