Remaining Free Agent Wish List
Here's mine without a whole lot of study:
a veteran backup QB- Maddox, Frerotte, Rattay, Nall another inside offensive lineman (assuming we add an OT starter in the draft)- C Seth McKinney (Mangold is the only impact one to be had in the draft) G- some of these i don't know too well, Stinchcombs older brother who has been good in TB might get him moving as well too, Reyes Carolina? Neal NE? another LB inside or out (the more competition and depth the better)- Petersen at 85% is still way better than what we have had Arrington i do not believe would come here Tommy Polley, Cato June Have Cowart or Claiborne signed somewhere? a DT but i do not see any too attractive left. i love wroten as a #34 pick. he fell from perhaps being a mid first rounder cuz he had a dubious agricultural business on the side. Kicker! i think big money to either of the 2 big V's would be well spent CB, probably won't be able to get an impact one in the draft unless trading for more picks- Warfield, Clements, Allen, Azmuh, Fletcher 3 out of any of those would be raeching most of our needs via free agency as Loomis was quoted. Who do you want? |
RE: Remaining Free Agent Wish List
Stephen Neal, Arrington, Allen for me. We can get the rest in the draft :D
|
RE: Remaining Free Agent Wish List
C Trey Teague, QB Gus Frerotte, we have no chance for Arrington or Peterson but I don't think I'd mind seeing us get Cato June (if we did, it would allow us to get a really good LB in the draft, and also get some OL help), a kicker would be nice but probably too expensive, and if Will Allen is available for a nice price than he'd be a good addition.
What do you mean "as Loomis was quoted?" |
Here's a few guys that pique my interest.
1. Seth McKinney--C 2. Melvin Fowler--C 3. Matt Wilhelm--MLB--He's an RFA with the Chargers, might be worth making a run at 4. Levar Arrington--OLB--I can't help myself, he's too awesome for me to write off. After this week, I can dream big enough for anything. 5. Tommy Polley--OLB--not thrilled with him, but he's solid. 6. Ahmed Plummer--CB 7. Will Allen--CB 8. Charles Woodson--CB--not sure if this is a good idea or not 9. Mike Vanderjagt or Paul Edinger--K--Both better than what's available in the draft and should do really well in the dome. 10. Marc Boerigter--WR--big target, if he stayed healthy, he'd be nice to have in the mix as a possession guy. He should be able to run 9 yard hooks all day long. 11. Reche Caldwell--WR--young, affordable, doesn't have to be the franchise guy. 12. Najeh Davenport--RB--could be a good goal line back, always gets great production when GB has used him. Basically, I'd like to deal with a C, another quality starting LB, and a K through the rest of free agency. But I'd be pleased with any of these other guys. |
that was from the Loomis Plan thread Deuce. at the press conference yesterday-
Loomis said the Saints hope to fill most of their needs through free agency and then take the best player available in the draft, which was what they did with the selection Deuce McAllister, even though Ricky Williams was already on the roster and coming off a strong second season in the league. Good list BMG, didja think about that ID change  |

bennet would make for a great foursome with the current cast
|
only foloow up i have found, from pioneer press/twincities.com:
Running back Michael Bennett made his first free-agent visit, arriving in New Orleans on Wednesday. Bennett will visit with the Saints then decide where to go next. "It was a great visit," Bennett said. Bennett wasn't sure where he is going next. But he said the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins have expressed interest. |
Anybody know what we're doing about Antowain and Stecker? 4 RBs seem like a little much, especially since Bennett will probably cost some money.
|
send antowain packing, keep stecker and draft a rb on the second day.
|
if one has to go if bennett is signed it has gotta be antowain even though i thought he was great in the role he played last year.
i'm starting to chuckle remembering the bufoonery of the haslett era. how bout keeping ki-jana carter around after he had gained a whopping 72 yds in his previous 5 years in the league. haz always came across to me as if he thought he could see things in players no one else could see. like giving up 3 draft picks for tebucky jones LOL. |
Antowain Smiyh and Anthony Thomas are both UFA. We do not have either of them on the team. All we have is Duece and Stecker.
So either we need to pick up a back or draft one. |

I also feel that we need to fill quite a few holes through free agency. I think that LB, CB, C, OG are probably the most pressing. The rest I think we would be able to get through the draft. I also feel that DT is now very thin in the free agent market.
Bellow are some free agents I do like: Seth McKinney C Miami Trey Teague C Bills Maurice Morris RB Seattle Jonathin Wells Rb Houston Na'il Diggs LB Packers Tommy Polley LB Ravens Will Allen CB Giants Reshea Townsand CB Steelers Stephen Neal OG Patriots Tom Ashworth OT Patriots Senaca Wallace QB Seattle Jaime Martin QB Rams I would be happy and feel any of these guys could contribute and not break the bank. I feel that Bennet is hurt to much and will ask for a steep contract, as well as Arrington, Woodson, and Peterson. |
I've liked Wallce since he was at Iowa State. Doubt Seahawks will let him go though. He also lined up at WR

i would like to see about gettin keyshawn... i know u guys will think i am crazy but hear me out... we dont really have a possession guy... i know u guys will say joe horn but he is not really a true guy u can send over the middle... joe takes a serious amount of punishment and putting him on the outside is much better for his ability.... keyshawn isnt fast and is a possession reciever and he has great hands... putting him with joe n dante and devery henderson will give us speed on the outside n size on the inside to go along with our big ass TE hilton
|
I've been saying that exact thing pak (see the thread I started entitled Keyshawn Johnson), but then the haters came out saying how awful it'd be. I think with the right coach he can shut his mouth and just catch the damn ball.
|
i dont really care if he runs his mouth... he an joe can B/S each other... but he can catch the football and is fearless goin over the middle an he suits our wr corps... we dont really have a big physical WR and he would give us that... it would make life hell for the defensive secondary...
|
I think Arrington would come here - He would be the man and that is what he wants to be.,

Plus, if we cut Bouman and Conwell, we could throw alot of money his way. He can say what he wants about staying on the East coast, he'll follow the money in the end. |
brees should know and have great influence if Reche Caldwell should be considered. ditto for seeing cornerback Jamar fletcher in practice every week.
--------oops, just breaking- caldwell to the pats |

i have a question,
if brees hits henderson over the middle with a strike on route to an 80yd td and he drops the ball, you're not gonna cringe, are you? smitty |
keymouth would give us that big possesion wr i have been wanting, but he may just cost too much.
|
how many teams do you think will actually offer him 3 mil a year?
|
how many will offer 2 mil?

Decided to revisit this list.
Not a whole lot of progress since we last reviewed. Here's my current wish list of who is available/reasonable deals/possible: Cato June LB (dammit) Ahmad Plummer CB Sam Adams DT 57years old or not Jeff Mitchell C Tommy Polley LB Jamie Winborn LB Jamar Fletcher CB |
this week has been boring 4 sssssssaints fans..... no nothing........... just be great to wake up tom and see Arrington signs with new orleans...
|
LK67, I really like June, Mitchell and Plummer on your list; I also like Winborn but not too keen on the rest of the list. Curious to see if the team signs any more players between now and the the draft, though. Arrington is NOT coming to N.O. That's a pipe dream ...
|
I've added Trey Teague to my list. The Bills OL has sucked so I discounted him. The more I read the more I realized he was probably the best component of it. (Think of how our OL has appeared with probably the best C in the game). Durable too, he has started 76 straight games.
|
I don't know why he wasn't on that list in the first place. He's the best center available....
|
For all you that are as anxious as I am to see some more FA names sign with the Saints I had this thought-
Today it was reported of the Panthers: they are not expected to make any more significant free agent moves. I have read this as a report and sometimes officially stated by several teams already. The good news is that we have heard no such thing as rumor or from the FO here. There may be a surprise or two left for us in these weeks before the draft. As others have said too, remember there are always some good June cut pickups to be had. Our history causes us to tend to expect nothing or little though. History is changing still. |
Good point Kelley, and remember that quote from Payton where he said that he makes some of his best FA additions late in the period. I know this guy's got something up his sleeve besides a knockout draft pick.
|
Right now, C is our biggest question mark, although we could use some more LBs. I think the team might seek some OLmen prior to the draft and perhaps concentrate most of the draft on the D ... Just my 0.2¢ ...
