Jets still want to trade up!

Jets | Team looking for ammunition to trade up
Sun, 19 Mar 2006 07:26:42 -0800

Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets are reportedly looking for ammunition, by trading DE John Abraham, to move up to the No. 2 slot in the April NFL Draft. They team wants to draft USC QB Matt Leinart.

and everyone thought Ramsey was the one, I don't think so. What would they give us for the number 2? A DT, their #4 and a third rounder. My offseason would be complete.

Ha I NEVER thought Ramsey was the one, and I've been one of the main folks in favor of a trade with the Jets. We'll essentially be getting something for nothing. I think it's a no brainer if we can get it worked out. I don't see it happening until draft day though.

Again, kudos to Loomis. The Brees deal has totally put us in the driver's seat for the draft. With a little luck, Norm Chow will be betgging the Titans to get into a bidding war to try and get Leinart. We might find ourselves in the position where the value chart gets thrown out the window so teams can get into position to take Leinart.

Gotta love our position in the draft!

It looks like a win win situation. Personally I am all for trading down and getting AJ Hawk, That is my wishlist!

If the Texans move the #1 and Leinhart goes 1, I can't see how we cannot take Bush if he is there though?

Draft day will be GREAT.

Agreed...if Bush is there at #2 and we don't get our socks knocked off with a trade offer, take him. He's the kind of player that you FIND a spot for on your team because he's that good.

I've thought about this scenario some too. If Bush is there, I have no idea what we do. With the big money we've put into Deuce and the signing of Bennett, it just doesn't make sense to take him.

If Bush is there, I suppose we'd be at the center of a bidding war to get him. We might be the beneficiary of a Ricky Williams kind of deal. Al Davis might give up his entire draft to take Reggie.

RE: Re: RE: Re: Jets still want to trade up!

Definately, if Bush is there we have to take him. My mindset is that top 5 picks should be used on playmakers and on skill positions. Bush is the definition of a playmaker. However, as much as I don't like the idea of goin OL in the top 5 I'd take Brick because we have so many holes on our OL. I'd also be happy with Hawk at 4 because he can be a playmaker on defense.

We could just move Bush to wide receiver.

Other than me, who here thinks that Bush could potentially be a top tier wide receiver in the NFL. . . if he were moved to that position?

Not big enough....Brad Smith the qb out of Mizzou would be a good WR...

Tell that to Steve Smith, or any of Indy's receivers.

Bush has great speed for a RB, but not elite speed for a WR. He's more quick than he is fast. Where he would excel is putting him into a slot position now and again and getting yards after the catch, but not as a regular position. Why make him into something he's not?

Ummm Bush probably runs somewhere between a 4.25 - 4.35. I'd say that's good speed for a receiver.

Bush has the speed and hands to be a wr in the nfl. My thoughts on him though, we've seen what he can do as a rb, why move him? You can still have him running patterns out of the backfield and occassionally lining up as a wr. But he's a rb, that's where he should spend most of his time in the nfl.

WHAT???? This guy is one of the fastest players in the last 10 years.

I think that if we did take him, he could be used as a RB, WR, KR, and PR. 4 positions in one? Not bad. However, I still think we need to take Brick or Hawk in the first.

Dude I know what I'm talking about. This was coming right out of high school when he was 20 pounds lighter. 4.4 in the 40 is no where near elite speed. And he didn't run at the combine. He wouldn't be a great every-down WR. In the slot now and then, absolutely, but not as a SE or FL.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Jets still want to trade up!

I'd rather have a a bunch of picks! I was intrigued by the Jets trading us 2 1st rounders... but the idea of holding the 2 spot and Bush being there has my head spinning! If we could find someone crazy enough to put together a Ditka/Williams type trade I'd jump all over it! It would set us up like nobodys business! I admit the prospect of having a Bush type talent is exciting but so is the prospect of drafting 3 or 4 key players that could be here for years to come.

i say trade down or stay at 2 and take hawk...we need him more than bush.....but don't get me wrong bush is a heel of a football player ......but the era of selecting the best overall player with our pick is over...we need to fill our holes at some point and don't know if i would pass on hawk

You draft Bush and that's it. Don't trade this pick. You take GREATNESS over bodies anyday! Why do you think the Texans say they are going to pick him?

so just b/c he ran 4.4 right outta high school doesnt mean he can get faster?

Falcons | Abraham intent on playing in Atlanta
Sun, 19 Mar 2006 19:34:46 -0800

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports New York Jets franchise free agent DE John Abraham is intent on playing for the Atlanta Falcons, his agent, Tony Agnone, confirmed Sunday, March 19. The contract agreement he reached Friday, March 17, with Atlanta and his word are his bond. The Jets have thwarted Abraham's relocation by treating the Falcons' trade offer of a second-round draft pick as insufficient. Instead, the Jets have agreed to trade him to the Seattle Seahawks for a first-round draft choice, and that decision has left Abraham "not happy," according to Agnone. In a brief e-mail to the Journal-Constitution, Agnone said there had been no developments in the saga over the weekend. Though things were quiet over the weekend, the Falcons confirmed talks are expected to resume as soon as Monday, March 20.
This is a weird situation. I'd rather have the first round pick from Seattle.

I don't see the need for Bush now. I think we should trade down and get Hawk. Beef up our D or get Brick and make sure that Brees is protected. If we really need a RB I think Addai will do just fine later in the draft.
