Who's had the best free agent signings?
 

Looks like Romeo wants to build a team. Cleveland is racking up the top free agents: LeCharles Bentley, Joe Jurevicious, Willie McGinest, & Ted Washington. Wow! I wish our FO would learn from these guys. :boohoo:

Oh yeah, Atlanta signed Lawyer Milloy & Miami snagged Will Allen, so we can kiss those two goodbye. :bang:

Learn what? They paid too much for Bentley, or at least more than anybody else COULD pay. They are 4th best when it comes to cap room, so yeah, they have a better opportunity to get bigger FAs. But I don't blame our FO at all for not resigning Bentley, you just can't sign an OC with the kind of money that the top tackles in this league get. The Browns were willing to do that because they have more room, and I guess because their desperate.

Joe Jurevicious is a solid player, but nothing special. At this point in his career he's just like Ricky Proehl: nothing but a third (or at best second) receiver with good hands). I don't see what's so spectacular about that.

I think that McGinest is a good pick up because they play the 3-4, but he's also 34, and is playing a position who's success lies on his speed.

And Ted Washington is fat. He's good for the Browns and other 3-4 teams because he's so fat that he's hard to move. But he's also old, clocking in at 37, and they gave him a two-year 7 million dollar contract, which is a lot for a huge fat guy who's old.

Overall, I think that the Browns have gone out and been aggressive and have signed some good veterans, but one of the reasons they did so is because they CAN do so. Not every team has 27 mil in cap room. I also think that some of their pick-ups are shaky. They paid Bentley too much for a center, Jurevicius/Washington/McGinest are all on the downslopes of their careers being over 30 years old. I think that our FO has done very well so far. We've signed our franchise QB (filling our biggest hole), a Pro Bowl RB as a backup (which is great Deuce insurance), and two LBs that, if not spectacular, are at least solid and definitely upgrades. Not to mention the FO has moved us into the driver's seat for the draft.

And I am kinda pissed we missed out on Will Allen, but I've heard too many reports of him sucking nuts for me to be really angry. And why would we want Lawyer Milloy? We already have our starting safeties....

I would have liked to snag Will Allen or Lawyer Milloy. Both would have been upgrades at their perspective positions.

Again, I agree with the Will Allen assessment, but I just don't think we need to be spending $6 mil on a position that is already pretty solid. He's also only had three interceptions in the last 4 years.

I agree that they paid a little too much for Bentley. Although he will be missed on our O-line.

Jurevicious a 3rd receiver? C'mon, he's one of the most underrated WR's in the game. He's huge with great hands.

McGinest is solid year in & year out. Though, I do agree he is on the downslope of his career, he will still be a solid veteran LB for a few more years.

Ted Washington: We should have gone after this guy. He's 37, but he's huge & strong as an ox. We just so happen to not have any DT's that can stop the run like this guy. Not to mention, his size alone commands a double team, which frees up your other DT & DE's.

While I love the signings we have made so far, everyone we have signed so far is coming off of injuries. This done concern me. Especially when there are other big time LB's out there in free agency who are not coming off of injuries. I know it's a money thing, but Julian Peterson, Cato June, & Lavar Arrington are out there. We already missed out on Will Witherspoon. All of whom are better than Fujita & Simmons when they're healthy.

Over on Fox Sports they are saying that Miami made a mistake in signing Allen. Let Madison go to sign a CB who couldn't catch a cold if he were naked in Alaska during a winter storm.

Allen couldn't catch a cold... somebody would have to give it to him.
