Just a Mock But I haven't Heard this Angle Before

I like mocks that give some reasoning to why they put a player in a slot. PFT speculates a lot but they also have some legitimate inside sources too.
----
1. Houston Texans: Reggie Bush, RB, USC (Joel Segal).
The Texans will pay lip service to the locals by pretending to agonize over the question of whether to pick Bush or Texas product Vince Young. Barring a trade down, it's Bush.

2. Baltimore Ravens (projected trade from Saints): Vince Young, QB, Texas (Major Adams).
The Saints could opt to stay put and draft a quarterback, but we have a weird feeling that the Ravens will fall in love with Young -- and could find a way to jump from No. 13 to snag him. For the Saints, who we hear covet a certain high-end defensive player, the drop by eleven spots will prevent them from getting him. However, the opportunity to slide back by eleven spots, and to avoid the big cash outlay associated with a top five pick, will be very, very tempting to the team's skinflint front office.

and...

13. New Orleans Saints (projected trade from Ravens): Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida State (Gary Wichard).
The last time this team was legit, it had a defensive line that was worth a crap.

We had a thread on this related topic so I will throw in some update here:

Mike Preston, of the Baltimore Sun, reports associates and friends close to Baltimore Ravens MLB Ray Lewis have said that he doesn't want to play in Baltimore for the 2006 season, but general manager Ozzie Newsome said the linebacker hasn't informed the team of any such intention. Newsome did admit that Lewis had a recent meeting with team owner Steve Bisciotti in Florida, and said Lewis asked to be traded before the start of the 2005 season. A team source said Lewis discussed his contract situation with Bisciotti, among other things. Lewis went into a self-imposed isolation from the team last season after the Ravens declined to restructure his contract, which still has three years left. League sources have said the Ravens were sending out "feelers" in a possible trade for Lewis, but they haven't gotten more than a second-round draft pick in exchange.
-----------------

Okay, how bout #2 to #4 and pick up #35 and #71. Young is still available at #4 and make the aforementioned trade- #4 to #13 for #44 and Ray Lewis.
End result: #13, 34, 35, 44, & 71 with Lewis and Fujita as a LB core.

Yay or Nay?

13 to 4 only gets us Ra Lewis and #44? I like the trade, but I say nay to that. That's a jump OUT of the top 10. I think a team would have to offer A LOT more than that to make a move like that.

TheDeuce 03-27-2006 09:18 AM

Theoretically, I guess it would be a good trade. That would give us the ability to draft a couple of OL with out first two picks, and a DL in the early second. Not to mention, I still think that having a player like Ray Lewis on our defense would make us look legit to the rest of the league. Hmmmmm who do you think opposing offenses fear more, COlby Bockwoldt or Ray Lewis?

Haha, but I still don't know if I'd wanna give up on brick....

saintswhodi 03-27-2006 09:24 AM

I think the days of Ray Lewis' name striking fear in people are done and gone. And I think TO pretty much stomped all over it by doing Lewis' dance in Baltimore after catching that TD. you don't trade for a name. You trade to improve your team. Would Ray Lewis be a good addition? Hell yes. Is he worth dropping down 9 spots and taking a second round pick alone? Hell no. Not even close.

I'm with WhoDi. It's too far to drop to end up and not enough to get in return. If the Ravens want to go up for the number 2 overall, then they might want to consider giving us a 1st, 2nd and 3rd this year and a 1st and 2nd next year.

They can keep Ray Lewis. He might end up being a June 1 cut anyway.

Come on BMG, that's just ridiculous. Before he was hurt, he had 46 tackles in 6 games. That's not typical Ray Lewis stats, but he's still a player.

I'm not sure it's that crazy.

The guy's been in the league 10 years now. He's scheduled to make 5.5 million this year and 6.5 million for the next 2 years. The problem he has with the Ravens is that he wants more money?

Where I'm puzzled is: How is this superior to making a run at Levar Arrington? Arrington is too expensive, but Lewis is a bargain? I'd rather save the headache and draft 3 LBs and see which ones work out.

I think you need to get over this Ray Lewis man crush. :P

He would be an improvement, but not at the cost of dropping 9 spots. Plus his salary? Not even remotely a good deal. June 1 cuts baby!!!

Whodi come on now, you know I can't shake it. This guy has laid some of the biggest hits I've ever seen, and he's often my first draft choice when I draft a team on Madden. Although he's lost a step, I guess seeing him in a Saints uniform has just always been something I've wanted to see.

As much as I love Madden, statements like this kill an arguments credibility. :P

The MADDEN Ray Lewis is nowhere near the same Ra Lewis who plays on the football field, or doesn;t lately, on Sundays. His salary is WAY out of wack with his present play, and he is living off his name right now. Does he have good years left? Probably so, the guys is one of the best LBs of all time. BUT is he worth dropping nine spots and just getting a mid second rounder for? The true answer to that is a mighty HELL NO!!!! Now, if after June 1 he is cut, we should make a run at him. But the deal, as it stood, is a terrible one for us just to play for a guy simply cause he is still rated high on Madden, or cause of what he did 3-4 years ago. He is on the downside of his career and making a lot of money. We need to avoid more players like that at all costs.
