Great Possibility for Two First-Round Picks
Here is an excerpt from an article on footballoutsiders.com:
"If the Saints decide one player can’t fill their needs, however, New Orleans could work a trade to move down in a deep draft. However, only the Jets and the Broncos possess two picks in the first round. The Broncos have no need for a quarterback. The Jets could theoretically trade both their firsts for the privilege of taking Matt Leinart, but there’s a chance Leinart will fall to the fourth pick anyway." That would be the 4th overall pick and the 29th overall pick. If this would happen, it would be a great trade for the Saints. What do you think? MJF!!!! Its been a while. I was beginning to miss the killer helmet man!! I too think it would be phenomenal if the Saints could trade down and acquire those picks.

RE: Great Possibility for Two First-Round Picks
It would be ideal, but for some reason, I just don't see it actually turning out that way. I think I saw somewhere on here that the Jets don't want to trade up because they know we're not going to take Leinart.
However, what if a team was willing to trade their first round pick this year, as well as a second and a first-round pick for next year? I don't think we should forget about the possibilities of teams trading future draft picks because that seems to be very popular on Draft Day. |

Also, despite the fact that we may or may not draft Leinart, the Jets can not afford to sit pat, because if they want to be guaranteed to pick him, they will have to trade with us in order to leap-frog the Titans. |
RE: Re: RE: Great Possibility for Two First-Round Picks
I would try and snag as many picks this year as I could... this is a great and deep draft this year... we need to capitalize on that. This is such a deep draft they ought to consider trading next years 1st rounder for one this year.

ROFL... you can't be serious, nevermind you probably are. Who's to say next year's draft isn't going to be even deeper? Why not just trade next year's and the year after?

RE: Re: RE: Great Possibility for Two First-Round Picks
OK P, I don't agree 100% with E either but what if we did trade 2007 and 2008 for number one picks this year and the draft went something like this:
#4 Brick, OT Jets give us their #4, #29 and #35 for the #2 pick #29 Mangold, Center #31 Q Jackson, MLB 1st for 2007 to Seahawks #32 Youboty, CB 1st to Steelers in 2008 #34 Max Jean-Gilles, OG #35 Gabe Watson/Claude Wroten, DT I would not mind that at all if it happened, would anybody? |
RE: Re: RE: Great Possibility for Two First-Round Picks
If we could get their both first and 2nd, dont even hesitate. If we could put Sullivan and we get Robertson... YES!1!...But if we do that, get Brick, than Mangold, and D'Qwell Jackson and everyone goes away happy.... or me at least :D
|
I can't get behind trading anywhere past #5. I know this is a deep draft, but at the top are some guys that are exactly what we need....right now players. Not maybes, or soons, but now.
But getting a pick in next years draft is a groovy idea. Yeah, it's a hedge towards next year, but if we get a later pick, or wedon't have a targetfor the value we are choosing at, how many teams will be lining up at our door then? |
