The Over-Rated Thread

Hey everyone, I'm ready for some pure comedy gold.

Pick a college player coming out in this coming draft and explain why they are over-rated and how they shouldn't be taken nearly as high as projected. No one is off-limits. Give it some thought, but please be clever.

No need to start labeling draft busts, but just "Who's over-rated?" as we look towards draft day. They may turn out to be Hall of Famers, but it might be fun to pick on all our draft day heros in this thread.

I'll start with my own favorite

Jay Cutler is Over-Rated--What did he ever do at Vandy besides lose? The guy hasn't done anything but show that he has a big time arm and high school decision making. The next Kyle Boller anyone?

TheDeuce 04-11-2006 03:43 PM

Mario Williams is overrated. I mean honestly, what has this guy ever done? He had a good second half of his junior season, but he's notorious for taking plays off and not giving 100% effort. Hmmmm defensive lineman with a lot of natural talent, but doesn't go hard every play? That sounds familiar. So congratulations "Super" Mario, you're overrated.

LivnaLieTimay 04-11-2006 04:14 PM

OK, I'll take the gimme here, Vince Young. Mr. Worderlic isn't exactly the brightest guy to enter the nfl draft (that's probably understating the fact, hahaha) and has never played in a pro style offense. He looks to run first, throw second, like Vick, but he isn't nearly as fast and elusive. He's going to take a beating if he plays in the nfl the way he played in college. The games I saw him play in, he was very inaccurate with his passes (In the USC game his recievers were WIDE open and had to make many difficult catches because of poor passes). People are raving about this guy when I could see him winding up like... (I told myself that even though I don't hate him I would not mention his name on this forum again). Vince Young = overrated!

papz 04-11-2006 04:30 PM

D'Brickashaw Ferguson... no doubt he's talented but so is Sullivan and we know where I'm going with this. The guy has all the ability in the world and has not lived up to that hype besides off season one on one drills. Until he can start performing on a consistent basis... D'Brick you are over-rated. Hello Winston Justice...

GoldRush26 04-11-2006 04:32 PM

I'll go with Leinart. I don't doubt that he's a good QB, but I think that any top QB of the past 5 years could have done just as well in his place at USC. Can you imagine if Jay Cutler, Eli Manning, or Ben Roethlisberger had Leinart's supporting cast. Hell Carson Palmer was AT USC and had a weaker supporting cast(since the team was so young then) yet put up numbers almost as good as Leinart. I think if they were all in the same draft, Leinart goes 5th out of all of those QBs.

He'll be good, but way over-hyped.

NEXTPROBOWLER 04-11-2006 04:37 PM

reggie bush, not a 25 carry back, 10 carries 5 catches type player, wont be any better the brian westbrook, lendall hamstring white got alot of carries, wont last long behind texans o-line

saintbuck 04-11-2006 04:47 PM

Da'Brickashaw Ferguson for one reason, HE IS AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that an O-line is important but how many of you go to the game to watch them block. If Kyle Turley would not have almost killed that Jets safety, there would be no one walking around sporting a linesman's jersey.

NEXTPROBOWLER 04-11-2006 04:57 PM

hey thats stil one of my most foundest memories of kyle turley lol

saintbuck 04-11-2006 05:18 PM

I love Turley, my favorite Saint ever, but thats just because he showed that he had balls on a team of nutless wonders, but i still wouldn't take him at #2. No offensive lineman is worth a top 7 pick in any draft, not even the beloved Kyle Turley.

spkb25 04-11-2006 05:27 PM

give me mr. vince. he is immature. when you go to meet the president of the united states you dress correctly. he wasn't prepared for the wonderlic. that doesn't sound to good. unprepared is about the worst. he hirieda family friend (even though he is a lawyer) to be his agent. then he wasn't ready for the test. on top of all of that is my original opinion that one game does not make you. it sure did for a while for him. i would love to go back and get all the post on how this guy was about = to slice bread. well he isn't.

Boogro 04-11-2006 05:34 PM

How about Vernon Davis? Can't block, is he gonna just play passing downs. Didn't hear much from in college. Give him a motorcycle and he'll be your next Kellen Winslow

saintbuck 04-11-2006 05:39 PM

Well that settles it, we should draft Hawk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, and we can call him Lincoln Hawk like Cadillac Williams.

I totally agree, this guy is a Warrick Dunn/Brian Westbrook type player and won't be able to run between the tackles 20 to 25 times a game. That doesn't make him a bad pick just a bad pick at number one when you could probably get someone like Dunn or Westbrook in the second round.

Boogro 04-11-2006 07:12 PM

Mel Kiper.....enough said

BrooksMustGo 04-11-2006 08:07 PM

AJ Hawk is Over-Rated--He's short, not very strong and has short arms. He gets gobbled up by big offensive linemen. He had the good luck to have a great Ohio State defense surrounding him. He doesn't change direction well and is weak in coverage. He's also injury prone. At best he'll have the instincts of Rocky Calmus and the health of Cie Grant.

D_it_up 04-11-2006 08:29 PM

It's hard to narrow it down to just one player that is overrated, but the first one that comes to my mind is Vince Young. IMO, he's Aaron Brooks with more physical ability but not quite as smart.

BiggPoppaFro4 04-11-2006 08:44 PM

VERNON DAVIS!!!!

You wanna sell me on a TE in the top 10, let alone the top 20??? Give me a break. Show me the TE that deserves that kind of attention and I'll show you Kellen Winslow and Cam Cleeland.

Kid can run and catch....coincidentally he can also get rag-dolled by DEs and LBs about any day of the week that ends in "Y". 6'3"?! That makes him a weapon over which SLB or SS?

Come on....only bigger hype is Hurricane Football

saintsfan1313 04-11-2006 08:47 PM

damn straight BiggPoppaFro4!!!!!

FanNJ 04-12-2006 08:00 AM

Matt Leinart.....O line awsome running backs best in College recievers caught floating ducks all year. Leinart is the third QB drafted and thats based on hanging with Nick Lache and the likes of the Hollywood.

ssmitty 04-12-2006 08:02 AM

does it have to be a college player? can i take brooks? smitty

zachsaints52 04-12-2006 09:00 AM

Mathias Kiwanuka is overrated. He had a very good Junior year, but his senior year he fell off and had an injury or two also. I was never really big on him either. And they still project him as a Top 3 DE in the first two rounds.

pakowitz 04-12-2006 09:10 AM

big boobs are over rated.. i mean come on... anything more then a hand full is a waste...

jergensl 04-12-2006 02:23 PM

chermy,
i have to really disagree with your assessment of warrick dunn. even though he is a small guy, he makes his living running between the tackles and that is where he is at his best.

that being said....
mr. brick,
you are tall and lanky...that can get you by in college, but there are some mean men in the nfl that will make you their biatch. mr brick...you are OVERRATED!!!!

I think big butts are overrated....most of the time, a chick with a big butt is almost big around the waist.

JimBone 04-12-2006 03:21 PM

Mini Camp is overrated!!!
How many of you are getting excited about Anthony Simmons, Chase Lyman, and Michael Bennett because of mini camp? Don't buy into it. Every year after minicamp we all get excited about these backups that are having great minicamps and then when the season rolls around, we only see them on special teams. Mini camp is overrated!!!

patdog 04-12-2006 10:16 PM

I think people that tries to figure out who is overrated is overrated.

I love you guys that make statements and leave yourself hanging out there. Well let me show you what I mean and you got someone to agree with ya, that's pretty good. Click on the link and look at each play where Dunn ran the ball and tell me how many times he ran up the middle and how many times he ran left or right. You can check every game if you want to, they are all the same. You don't run at 300 pound guys when you are only a buck 80. You will get killed quickly.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore...027&page=plays

Doesn't run up the middle much does he!!!!!!!

Thanks, have a nice day and please pull through!

Jackson26 04-13-2006 12:27 AM

well, people bulk up. you'd forget how skinny Deuce was out of college and how he was supposed to be "fraglie" and a "speed guy."
