What's the feeling on Andrew Whitworth?
Include me in the "trade down to four with the Jets and take Hawk" fan club.
Provided we pick up a 3rd rd pick, and Whitworth's available what's the opinion on him stepping in at RT? I'm sure a lot of people on here have watched a lot of LSU games over the last four years and have seen what kind of player he is. I would really like to see him in the black and gold. |
RE: What
i think he would make a solid RT but not a LT... good late 2nd early 3rd round pick
|
RE: What
3 agreed oh jadi master
|
First time ever, agree with pak. Solid 3rd rounder as a RT.
|
Here's another vote for drafting Whitworth with a 3rd round pick (if we get one). I think second round would be a little high for him, though.
|
First day pick seems a little high. I'd be ok with 5-6th for him.
As a tactic to pacify all the homers, I don't think its a good idea. We could draft all LSU players all the time and bubbas still won't buy season tickets. |
I would take Whitworth if we had a pick at the end of the second round and definitely if we had one in the 3rd. He could be my right tackle any day. He played 50 something games at left tackle for an SEC powerhouse and was fantastic. He has got to have some kind of ability.

The combine is so overrated. I will take my chances with the player who has done it on the field instead of the "workout warrior" who bench presses 700 pounds and high jumps 50 inches. Give me the football player. Not the freak.
|
One more note on this player. If he didn't play for the team in baton rogue, no one would have posted this thread and we wouldn't hear a word about him this draft season. He's just not that special.

Thank you...I say i trust him coming to the saints because i feel as though i have seen him play enough to be comfortable with him. I am not clamoring for us to trade down and take Claude Wroten. I would love to have Marcus McNeill in the third round and i cant stand Auburn. But the fact that he played at Auburn means people like me who live in the south get to watch them weekly and therefore, its safer for me to make an assessment of him as a player. Thank you and God Bless.

Little something on Whitworth from NFL.com:
9. Andrew Whitworth, LSU (6-7; 5.18) He had a complete workout at the Combine. He clocked 5.16 and 5.20 in the 40, 4.83 in the short shuttle, and 7.47 in the three-cone drill. He had a 30½-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-4 broad jump and did 38 lifts. His arm length measures 35 inches (left-handed). Plays offensive line and also plays basketball at a high level; golf and tennis, too. He redshirted in 2001 and then started the next 52 games at left tackle (a school record). He's a great character person. He has long arms and big hands (10 1/8 inches). Very good worker both on and off the field. Good competitor and is athletic, but not sure he is quick enough to play left tackle in the NFL. His best position is most likely at right tackle. He'll play a long time for a team Talks about other linemen in the draft too: http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/expert/brandt/ol |
According to Mel Kiper's mock draft from two weeks ago, he is considered to be a late second round pick. Kiper had him going at #59 to Tampa.
He had McNeill going #49 to Dallas. |
Here's a link to the rankings of offensive tackles in this year's draft along with the rounds they are projected to go in. These are more recent (updated daily).

Umm... I was under the impression his stock is rising, not falling.
