If they take a flyer on Vick let it be as an undrafted FA, They can at least pick up a special teamer or a K with the 7th rounder lol

Marcus Vick and McPhearson isn't a fair comparison at all.

Vick - Weed possession. Underage girl deal. Pulling a gun on some kids. Stomping on the leg of that Louisville player.

McPhearson - Forged one check.

And also he's kept his nose clean since. You know, I wouldn't mind seeing McPhearson take over in the unfortunate event that Bree's went down. As raw as he is, I think he's a playmaker. Don't get me wrong, I'm not wishing for it. But I wouldn't mind seeing what the kid could do.

I think we all would. Unfortunately, the morons we had on our coaching staff did not give us a chance to see what AMAC had last year when they had the chance.

What about the QB from Grambling, who had the highest Wonderlic? He is a bit pudgey though, but very smart and all

Lets see what payton desides on to be his pet project. Who knows Amac could be the guy. He might have ready to be #2 by middle of the season.

The free agent qb's out there that are left aren't good enough to pass salt at a restaurant, so you're delusional to think that we'll be able to address that need after the draft. Next, to think that drafting one of the remaining qb's in a later round is going to be possible is also dreaming. The days of a Brady taken in the 6th round are over as scouts are MORE aware of qb potential as a result. It's all about getting reps in games against high quality opponents. That's why Cutler has scouts intigued, playing successfully with no support against the best defensive conference in college football.

AMac has less than half a season of college ball under his belt and a little bit of arena. He still hasn't taken on a full offense or faced an NFL defense, and probably is another 2-3 years away from being a capable #2. Bouman is not an answer for all the reasons from the above; he was kept on because he wasn't a threat to AB. It's not acceptable to have a crummy backup in the NFL anymore because of the rate of injury among starters. Too many promising seasons have ended up with early first round drafts because of the lack of succession planning. With all the risk inherent in Brees, it behooves the team to make a wise selection and take a quarterback in the 1st two rounds.

Yes, but do you really think a quarterback in the first two rounds will be able to salvage a season in his first year? Or should I say is it likely he could? Rothlesberger was a rare transition. But what are our options? Like you said there isn't really anything left in free agency for the quarterback department. Ok, so say we draft a quarterback and Bree's get's hurt in camp or a preseason game. Do you think this coaching staff would go to the rookie? Not likely. I feel what you're saying, but you have to be realistic. I felt like last year we should have gave A-Mac some time. Bouman just doesn't really have the tools to do it. He's like a donut tire to get you to Auto-Zone.

Yeah, FA QBs left on the market aren't very good (I think we all hope Collins doesn't try to make a "triumphant" return), but when the next round of cuts come down and new guys have been draft by other teams, we will be able to pick up a quality backup...which is what we need....not a flying leap with a 5% chance of panning out like Vick. He wasn't even that good in college when he decided to act like a real man...in a McD's parking lot....in front of high-schoolers.

And yeah, the days of finding a QB diamond in the rough like Brady or Hasselbeck are done, (actually not) but what about the other positions where we can get value at #7? Bockwaldt is a 7. Karney is a 5.

(no hate here, just saying, so don't freak out on me! )

I'm just saying it doesn't look like we'll get someone (beyond a trade), that could come in a take over in the event the Bree's get's hurt. And getting Vick would be a waste of time I'd leave to some other team.

Excactly. Actually not!! There's no way you can predict everything. Scouting isn't an exact sciece. It's getting better, but there will still be players that slip through the cracks and wind up surprising everyone. Now will this happen as frequently? Can teams reduce this? I hope not. It's exciting to see when it happens. And plus it gives that particular player drive when so many teams passed on him. I like to think that A-Mac is our diamond.
