Devoted Fan Blues
I have bored you with my history as a Saints fan since their inception. Approaching 4 decades now, it is feeling more and more like what a Chicago Cubs lifelong fan endures- You love dem lovable bums. I haven't been this excited about a Saints draft in several years. But as we approach the big day I do have a sense of dread. Here it is...
I am a big advocate of taking the Hawk. From all the info I have garnered I do not think they will take him unless it is below pick #4. I do not think GB or SF want to trade out of the 5 and 6 spots unless overwhelmed. Hawk will be gone by #7 if we would end up there in some deal with Oakland. If staying in the number two to four holes I could accept D'Brick as the pick. Not my first choice but it certainly would be the best pair of young OTs in the league. It has come to be my deepest dread that Mario will be their selection though. He could end up being the next Peppers. He also has a much shallower resume than Hawk or Brick with a much greater bust potential. I was reading on a Titans board this morning and they are requesting that people pray that the Saints take Mario so Floyd Reese will not be tempted to choose him. Ouch! I suppose I would rather even see Leinart taken for a riverboat gambler move forcing someone to trade and get him. Or even have him in the same position Rivers was in SD. If they choose Mario there is the issue also of what to do with Grant. He isn't cut out for DT. There won't be a lot of leverage in trading him either. Sh!t. I better get my game face on... if they do take the Super Mario I won't be predicting doom or be in tears. I will hope for the best that coupled with Will Smith it will be one of the most awesome DE combos in the league. Is it just because we are Saints fans that we can have such trepedation about selecting the consensus highest rated defensive player in the draft? Is the new regime's smokescreen so good and effective that they could take Hawk at #2 and blow us all away? |
