SI draft tips article

Beware of the fast-riser. This is otherwise known as the Mike Mamula Factor, in honor of the Boston College defensive end whose impressive workouts at the 1995 scouting combine shot him up draft boards.

Don't let need skew your perceptions.

Evaluate the evaluators. Area scouts spend months gathering information on potential draftees, learning about their character and motivation levels, but some sources are more reliable than others.

Keep the God complex under control. When scouts become enamored of workout warriors whose college production was lacking or whose motivation appeared suspect, egotistical coaches often compound the problem by assuming they can cure all ills.
There's more there, I just took the tips and a few sentences.

Hmmmm. This sounds like it's referring to somebody that there's been a lot of discussion about. THe Immortal MW? I think so. I was watching ESPN yesterday and even Salisubry said that he disappeared from big games and only had sacks in half of his games. The ONLY reason that this guy is even being considered in the top 5 is because he's a workout warrior. This guy is so overrated...

The Immortal Mario Williams has the school records for tackles for loss and sacks. I'm not sure how that translates into "he's never done anything on the field".

He said he didn't show up for the big games. Heck, we oculda put a team up against UNC and some other schools and one of us could defintaltey get some sacks. What are the records for TFL's and sacks at NC State?

I bet you've seen Mario Williams highlights, but have you noticed how much he looks like Julius Peppers in uniform? He looks as if Pappers dressed up in NC State uniform. I think that's what everyone is seeing. Sort of like a subliminal message.

Oh, and before anyone else starts, he LOOKS PHYSICALLY like Julius Peppers, NOT talking about the play.

BTW, BMG, breaking NC St records is kinda like breaking Saints QB records :)

Me either, especially since I never said that. I did say that he sucks in big games, and has been known to take too many plays off. 12 of his 14.5 sacks last year were against Wake Forest, Mid Tenn St, Maryland (5-6), and Southern Miss. That means he only had 2.5 sacks against such teams as Virginia Tech, UNC, Georgia Tech (0 tackles), Clemson, Florida State, Boston College, and South Florida. So pretty much I just named almost every good team in the ACC, and Mario didn't do anything in any of those games. Before that, I named some of the worse programs in the ACC, Conference USA, and Sunbelt Conference, and those were the teams that he enjoyed his greatest success against. Sure, 14.5 sacks is pretty good. But 2.5 sacks in the biggest games against the biggest 7 games of his season is not.

Why is anyone still arguing with BMG over this? And when will my name change to BrooksMustGoMustGo2 gonna be complete?

I'm going to look like the biggest draft guru ever on Saturday when we draft The Immortal Mario Williams second overall.
