EUGENE RELEASED: The Saints released quarterback Bruce Eugene this week.

The record-setting Grambling State standout faced an uphill battle after signing with the Saints as an undrafted free agent in April. He was the fifth quarterback on the team's roster and was trying to get his weight down and improve his conditioning.

Eugene has a strong arm and accomplished résumé. Eugene, 6 feet, 255 pounds, set a Division 1-AA record with 140 career touchdown passes and ranks second with 13,350 career passing yards.

Don't worry. he is good enough to displace a lot of #3 Qbs in the league right now and I do not think it will take long for some team to pick him up. I predict he will be on some team come the beginning of the season. :monkey:

I really think Eugene has amazing talent. I also thought he would either make the final roster as the 3rd QB, or at least on the practice squad. Hopefully he continues to work hard, and he can get picked up by another team.

mabye he could go to the steelers...dont they have an issue at qb right now?

sounds like ben will be ready to play midway through the preseason.

I would laugh my gonads off if he were signed by the Raiders and beats out every QB they have for the starting job.

Well, if he's as good as you guys think, doesn't that make you feel a bit more comfortable about the quarterbacks that we're keeping on the roster?

Sounds like Eugene needs to concentrate on his training and nutrition and look at playing in the CFL or AFL for a year or two. If he can do this, I'm all for giving him another chance. You can't rely on a player who is out of shape and has weight issues.

If he can get his weight under control there is abig chance that we will se him snatched up by some team and sent to NFLE this spring.

I don't know about the others but I know one there is no reason why he shouldn't beat AB out . . . Prepare to be minus ur 'nads, you probably didn't need 'em anyway if you would give 'em up, so easily, on a bet against AB.

All except Bouman...still not sold on A Mac, either. Bouman better be history.

I think the AFL would be the best place for him for a year or 2. The pace of the game would get him in some sort of shape and help him work on his game. The bigger issue for him is maturity. He had coaches & scouts telling to loose weight and he decided to continue to eat like fat bastard. Hopefully he'll grow up!
