Donnie Edwards

Anyone know anything about getting Donnie Edwards?

biloxi-indian 06-18-2006 10:36 PM

"Saints GM Mickey Loomis, interviewed on SIRIUS NFL Radio with hosts Adam Schein and Solomon Wilcots, On the possibility of Chargers LB Donnie Edwards becoming a Saint: “I’m not sure that I can even comment on that other than to say that I know Drew Brees is a big fan of and friend of Donnie Edwards and Drew himself has talked to me a number of times about, ‘Hey, can we get Donnie Edwards here?’ He’s a good player and been a good player for a long time. He’d be an asset to any team. I think I’ll just leave it at that.

sarge06 06-18-2006 10:40 PM

thanks. That would be a huge sign if they get him.

Bye Bye Donte'!

:drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:

I hope Brees has some stroke with the FO. Edwards would be a solid pick up at LB.

Who will be backing up rivers in SD?

Edwards is old ..... not having many left years on him...... no thanx are lbs are already better we dont need him....

saintbuck 06-19-2006 06:46 PM

Cornerbacks, Cornerbacks, Cornerbacks or offensive lineman. If we dont get more help at CB, Keyshawn is gonna kick our ass by himself, who is gonna chalenge him, Jason Crap. CB CB CB CB CB CB CB.

It will not take much. Keyshawn is the most overrated "Big Mouth" in the game. He's the NFL's version of Chris Webber......you can always count on him NOT showing up in clutch time. :? Now, Steve Smith.....we might have a problem.

saintbuck 06-19-2006 08:34 PM

I suspect Smith will be double teamed with the CB being McKinsey

sarge06 06-19-2006 10:15 PM

Keyshawn Johnson is lucky he is still in the leauge. He is the defintion of washed up. That guy is the least of my worries.

papz 06-19-2006 10:33 PM

He's not as good as he use to be, but he's far from washed up. I think he's a great complement to Smith.

sarge06 06-19-2006 10:44 PM

All the guy has ever been really good at is running his mouth. He has never shown that he is an elite WR, yet people alwyas seem to give him the benefit because he was a #1 pick.

Hey, I am a 76ers fan, I sure hope Webber isn't washed up...... ok he is, But I wouldn't mind getting Jammer for Devery or something like that. But not Stallworth :D Donnie would be a good adition for this year, how long is his contract?

I disagree totally. Edwards is a leader, and he has the pedigree that would upgrade the entire defense's attitude.

Though you are correct in the fact that Edwards is old we dont have one LB on the current team that is better than him. He would be far and away our best LB should we sign him.

He may not have many years left, but he does have some. Even its 2, I'll gladly take it.

NOSaints 06-20-2006 11:06 AM

I think Miami wants him worse than we do. According to yesterdays Miami herald:

The Dolphins, considering taking Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the July 13 supplemental draft, will meet with him Monday and attend his workout Thursday.

Have we met with him yet or watched him work out?

saintswhodi 06-20-2006 11:19 AM

Edwards is a good player, but unless it's something like a 4th round pick, I wouldn't wanna get him. Especially since the Chargers want to trade him cause he wants a new deal, at an advanced age. YES he has been productive up to this point, but so was Joe Horn, and the same season in which he got his new deal, he was hurt all year and ineffective. So, no thanks for more of that. I really would not mind having Edwards here to help some of our younger LBs, but like I said, if it's too much to get him, pass.

jergensl 06-20-2006 12:16 PM

it would be hard to pass up on a talented LB with such a good locker room presence. saying that...i wouldn't want to give up much more than a 3rd rounder or one of our HUGE group of Safeties combined with a lower pick.

He has only had one season with less that 70 catches, and that was the year the Bucs deactivated him in midseason. He has never had sprectacular stats, usually between 800 and 1000 yards, around 6 TDs, but he is a possession reciever. Johnson isnt lucky to be in the league, and he isnt washed up. His stats are remarkably consistent throughout his career, no matter what team he is on. There is no real drop off in production last season or the season before that. Just consistency.

Yes, his stats are remarkably consistent. He consistently drops the ball in clutch situations. :D

NFLDiva 06-21-2006 06:55 PM

And he consistantly has more ego than is humanly possible.

Keyshawn? Hmm, don't know about that. I read an article that said like 70% or so of his catches last year were for first downs. That's pretty amazing, and exactly what Carolina needs to complement Steve Smith's explosiveness.

I can understand that when you're running a quick hitch out on 3rd and 1.

what a book called "Throw ME The Ball" is a sign of EGO?

Bise 06-22-2006 01:03 PM

This has morphed into a Keyshawn Johnson thread..... Who do you believe more? Brees or everyone else? For the right price I would be totally fine with Donnie Edwards being a Saint for a year or two.
