Ahh... The Memories

RE: Ahh... The Memories
I miss our DOMINATING DEFENSE.

RE: Ahh... The Memories
That was awesome. I particularly liked seeing all those great names on the field together at the same time... I wonder if we'll ever have a time like that again. RIP Sam Mills.
|
... the one thing that jumped at me was the highlights of Vaughn Johnson, who was the less-heralded member of the Dome Patrol. The guy was a very good tackler, a very good run stuffer, and had range and speed to go side to side.
Not being a homer, but indeed, the Dome Patrol is the best LB corps ever to play in the NFL. |
Tobias-Reiper - I agree. Awesome
|
I really haven't been able to find much clips with the Dome Patrol so this was awesome. I have to ask, whos the guy wit #75. He looks like a stud.

..speaking of d-linemen, we also tend to forget that we had guys like Wayne Martin, Frank Warren, Jim Wilks, Jumpy Geathers, Robert Goff... .. ok, someone hand me a tissue... |
I put the video on my favorites I watch it everyday......
|
Is Wayne Martin the best Saints DT ever?
I've been a Saints fan since I knew what football was as a 5yo. I can't think of a better DT that played for the Saints. Glover was good while he was here, but Martin did it for so many more years. He's one of my favorite all-time Saints. |
Man!!!! I miss those days. We might not have outscored teams, but our defense laid the smack down every game.

I remember a game in the dome a few years back. I was sitting right next to a fan of the opposing team. (I don't remember what team it was, though.) Anyways, at the beginning of the game, he started giving me crap about my Sammy Knight jersey. He asked me who Knight was and said how he must not be that good because he had never heard of him.
Sammy Knight had 2 interceptions in that game. I loved it. |
Knight was definately a head hunter & would lay the big hit, but his coverage skills were nowhere near that of Dave Waymer (not dissing Sammy-I loved Sammy's intensity when he was here). And....Waymer liked to lay down the big hit as well.
|
Good story. Who's Sammy Knight? -- he's that guy that just intercepted your quarterback.
Again. |
That was a very nice era! I loved the way the Saints defense got at it. My biggest frustration was watching a very talented offense, lead mostly by Bobby Hebert, go 3 and out seemingly all the time. If the Saints could have figured out how to score points, it would have been at least 3 Superbowls for them. Since I really believe Bobby Hebert was an all world QB, I still blame Carl Smith...

You know, this video was peiced together by highlights from just a FEW games. I wish there were more. |
All world? What about the playoff game vs. the Falcons. 4th down, last play of the game, we're in the red zone and Hebert throws the ball 20 feet high in the air out the back of the endzone. At least AB would have hit Stan Brock in the head with it.
|
Carl Smith and the lack of a big play WR.
|
Ah yes, the dreaded dirty birdz. I will still make a god-awful gumbo out of one of those nasty pigeons one of these days.
I still get angry when I hear the two most hated words in the English language - Steve Bartkowski. |

More Carl Smith and draw plays

GAWWWD That was awesome. What a way to start my morning. This year we should have enough good offensive footage to create a similar highlight reel to be shown next year. This time, it will feature Brees, Bush, Stallworth, Horn and Hilton.
