RE: A few pics from today...

Joe, I've been reading that Drew's passes look crisp and tight. How you think he's doing? Good decissions? Is he rubbing his shoulder or showing any preference to it after plays?

And as many have said before me, thanks for the updates!

along 08-10-2006 07:49 PM

You all right with me Joe!!!

I would love to know how our Defense is doing.

JOESAM2002 08-10-2006 07:51 PM

Brees looks good, his passes are crisp and he doesn't seem to have any pain in the shoulder. One thing I will tell you which I think is good news. Drew Brees is as competative as anyone I have ever seen. If he messes up he's the first to let everyone know. Reggie Bush is another one. Yesterday at practice he missed a pass he thought he should have caught, he kicked the pylon completely off the field. Coach Payton has to keep them both from blowing up.

BJSim 08-10-2006 08:01 PM

That's what I want to hear. A QB (and RB) taking blame for thier mistakes. That'll go a long way towards making the rest of the team take it upon themselves when they mess up. I hate players that blame everything and everyone but themselves. (And before people start, I didn't mean Brooks in particular, so please don't let this thread go there.)

Joe, who would be your two early picks for...
On the bubble/low draft/walk on that makes the team.
and high pick/money player cut.

I know it's early for this, but it'll be interesting to see how you did come the late August cuts.

hagan714 08-10-2006 08:05 PM

how is CB Joey Thomas looking?

LongTimeFan 08-10-2006 08:07 PM

Not 100% sure how the team will do this season but I bet they will do everything that they can to win .
I haven't been this excited about the team since the Bobby Hebert era... (Dome Patrol)

Almost forgot, thanks again Joe for the heads up, great pics, I look forward to seeing them at night when I get home from work..

Thanks again bro

BJSim 08-10-2006 08:10 PM

LTF ... I'm with you. This is the year of rebirth. New coach(es), QB, and the #1 draft pick (yeah, picked second but who cares).

JOESAM2002 08-10-2006 08:29 PM

I'll start with the cuts I see: I can't see some of our favorites making this team, people like Fred McAfee, Steve Gleason And Michael Lewis. This coaching staff is looking for people who can do more than play just on special teams. On the bubble, are you ready for this? Stallworth! I don't see him on the final team roster. Whether it be a trade or outright cut. If he doesn't pick up his game,I can't see him here.Couple that with the way the young recievers are playing. This seems to me to be a no brainer. Newbies that I think will make it. Jamal Jones, E.J. Kuale,Chase Lyman I think will hang on.

Oh by the way, I'm not real sure that Ernie Conwell will make this team. Last but certainly not least,I think(hope) Todd Bauman will be gone.

Sorry, you asked about Joey Thomas. He's getting a little playing time. At times he looks good and at times he looks like Jason Craft. Joey can make this team, he just needs to be more consistant.

BJSim 08-10-2006 08:45 PM

I feel bad for Michael Lewis, but if he doesn't have it, sorry. And if it means keeping A-Mac as kick returner, then I'm for it. Stallworth isn't as surprising to me as some others. But does that mean Henderson is playing THAT well?

LongTimeFan 08-10-2006 09:06 PM

I agree Joe, Stallworth won't be on the roster this season.
Henderson will be the # 2 WR I think.

JOESAM2002 08-10-2006 09:29 PM

It seems to be the consensus that Dev has come a long way. He is catching everything around him. He has made some spectacular catches since i've been here. Plus he's working as the #2 reciever right now. I really think Stallworth's problem is the fact that Dev is playing ahead of him. Donte has started to perk up, but it seems that he has found his way into Payton's doghouse for now.

AllSaints 08-10-2006 09:49 PM

How about the Secondary joe??? I mean every 1 if freaking out with Dwight Smith gone i guess they forgot we have 40 more safties......... some that can play.........

JOESAM2002 08-10-2006 10:04 PM

Stoutmire and Bullocks seem to be leading the race for the spots.Roman Harper looks good for a rookie, but he's still a rookie.Bellamy and Scott will suffice if the other 2 get hurt. I just don't see how Gleason will make this team.

jrmllb 08-11-2006 07:39 AM

Love it, Love it....I would be sorry to see Lewis go, but I have said since camp started and he wasn't on the field that he was not going to make this team...I was hoping DH would step up...I was hoping Stallworth would pick it up a little but that does not seem to be happening...would Hate to see McAfee go...I jsut think having a veteran like that brings so many intangibles to the locker room...Kinda like a Derby horse's older stablemate....They keep the younger fast horses calm...I would like to see Haas make the team...You've said he looked great in camp...

How are the LB's looking on chemistry and working as a team?

How the OL looking?

Good questions. I wish I could answer them with some degree of confidence. However, with all the injuries in both positions it's hard to do.

I can say this, Fujita and Polly (before he got hurt) look good. Fincher has stepped up his game. Colby, as I said, is working harder than any of them. I haven't seen enough of Wade to know if he's going to help or not. So, in answer to your question, our starters look good but the depth is shakey.

On the offensive line, wow, injuries have been taken a toll here. Without Holland and Mayberry, it certainly hurts. When you have to play 2 rookies as starters you're in trouble. Having said that, maybe given enough playing time, hopefully they will gel into a unit that you can count on.

hagan714 08-11-2006 08:10 AM

Thanks Joe for the update on joey. this may be the last year for the kid with so much potential. This area of the team is one of my biggest worries. if one or god forbid two guys goes down I am afraid we are sunk. I was hopining he would start to show something and lock down the nickle back this year and be ready to make a push for the #2 next. does not sound good. We might have to invest in a high priced in FA or a high draft pick next year. I am still hoping it is earlystill. Rather see the money or pick go to another position, OT,LB

gandhi1007 08-11-2006 08:43 AM

Hey Joe......how about Mike Haas & Marques Colston? Haven't heard anything on them lately. Do they still look good? Think they'll make the roster?

JOESAM2002 08-11-2006 10:00 AM

Both look good. Never drop balls. Whether they'll make the team is still to early to tell. If they keep up the good work and someone falls, yea they'll make it. Hass has the better chance, I think but Colston has surprised many in camp.

I hope they make it. Hell.....get a decent pick for Stallworth & put these 2 guys with Devery & Joe Horn. Two speedsters & two sure hands guys sounds like a squad at WR to me. :D

WhoDat 08-11-2006 11:29 AM

I thought this JoeSam guy was retired. What's he doing posting? :)

FatiusJeebs 08-11-2006 11:40 AM

Pak,my man, If that was meant for me, I take that as a compliment!

WhoDat 08-11-2006 03:17 PM

I'm not bad for a dead guy. The real question is - how are YOU doing old man?

JOESAM2002 08-11-2006 03:37 PM

Not bad for an old guy! Every day above ground, is a good one!

jrmllb 08-11-2006 03:51 PM

Trade Idea for Stallworth:

Trade Stallworth to ATL, they are dying for a WR, (DeAngelo Hall, come on), after Finneran went down...why not trade them stone hands covered in hype for a good LB or OG or an OK one and a pick...

Look like Grant have that play all rapped up.

:D

DJLengai 08-11-2006 05:06 PM

What injuries do Holland, Mayberry, and Polley have? Hopefully just bumps and bruises.

Is that Grant or Will Smith? Looks like Will Smith zeroing in on Bush.

D24pick 08-11-2006 05:40 PM

Cant agree more...

Dh has been proving every one wrong! Thats final, hes been keeping that speed, and making acrobatic, nice grabs...He may be #2, but I think Stall will tighten up and reclaim his spot...After this season I see the roster having Stall 1st, then DH, and Hass at 3

Sorry to see Freddie Mac go, but hes so old and hes got all odds against him, as well as Lewis...Their are younger players, who have just as much talent and potential as them (Bethel and AMAC)

Jamal Jones, E.J. Kuale,Chase Lyman I think will hang on.
Exactly, Kuale has been looking like Peter Boulware out there...Hes been all over, he and Fincher, he's been looking awesome for an UDFA

Oh and hopefully you caught some things on LAY, cause I haven't

RockyMountainSaint 08-13-2006 02:25 AM

Holy Schnikey!
A WhoDat sighting!
spkb, WhoDat has been depressed since Billy C left.
WhoDat achieved victory against Billy's insanity, but at what price?
Without Billy to keep him enraged WhoDat lost his sense of purpose and fell into a deep depression which he is only now (I hope) recovering from.
Of course this is only a theory, but whatever.
Welcome home WhoDat.
You have been missed. :notworthy:
