Reggie's 44 yard run

So what does everybody think of Reggie's long run. What a great burst of speed this guy has. He also showed some toughness plowing into Pacman Jones on the next drive. He also did a good job running it up the middle. Why can't this guy be an every down back?

RE: Reggie

well he ahs to be able to protect the qb too. i think he can eventually

RE: Reggie

I was wondering when I'd see the first "hey, why don't they let Reggie be the solo back" post.
Funny, it only took one run in the 1st pre season game before it happened.

Now, I have to wait for the "why don't we see what we can get for Deuce in a trade" post.

...some folks can never be satisfied I guess...

RE: Reggie

well leilung i don't see him being able to do it just yet but we won't be able to afford both forver and i am sure the organization knows this is something for now not forever

Bobaganoosh 08-12-2006 11:27 PM

Thinking about getting rid of Deuce is just silly at this time. The cost factor makes no sense to me because they are affording both of them now and we are still 12 million under the cap. Deuce and Reggie need each other to maximize their abilities and i am really looking forward to seeing both of them on the field together. Also, as far as Reggie's run goes, i saw him do it college and i wondered if he could do that at the next level, and apparently he can because beat the CB to the sideline with ease. That is very refreshing.

BoudinSandwich 08-12-2006 11:38 PM

He was one block away from taking it home. Someone (I think it was Henderson) missed a block and fell down. Had he initiated a decent block, Bush would have scored.

I saw what he did in college, but I didn't think he could do the same thing at the pro level yet. Boy, was I ever wrong.

Bush is siiiiiick siiiiiiiick siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!

spkb25 08-12-2006 11:44 PM

um bob i am not for getting rid of deuce right now. not at all. like i said earlier there is more to playing running back then just running the ball. did you read my entire post. i think what i was saying is that eventually we will more then likely get rid of deuce and that eventually i think reggie can do it all. but no i am not for doing it right now.

Devery did his job. He blocked downfield which since it is "in space" is more difficult than a lineman making a block at the point of attack. The thing that struck me was that Reggie waited for the block to happen and Deverey's presence gained him another 5-10 yards. Many wide recievers are unwilling or undisciplined enough not to do this. I like the tone Payton has set. Ensuring that all players on this team will do the things that wil make them complete players and the team as a consequence successful.

thib82 08-13-2006 12:25 AM

All I can say is that it was beautiful to see a runningback in a Saints jersey make a run like that!

BoudinSandwich 08-13-2006 12:30 AM

It's only the beginning, guys. At first, 'Baby Matrix' didn't sound so hot. Now, I think it has a nice ring to it. It's totally fitting.

Yes, I was skeptical at first, but now I'm a believer.

26DEUCE26 08-13-2006 01:22 AM

I wasn't trying to say let's get rid of Deuce, I think Deuce is great. I just hear alot of people saying that he's too small, or not strong enough to be an every down back, and I think it's B.S. When Emmit Smith came into the league he was only slightly bigger than Bush, and he ended up as the all time leading rusher. I think that Bush is going to be a player with the work ethic to improve his blocking on passing plays, and after that I don't see many weak spots.

RockyMountainSaint 08-13-2006 01:43 AM

Emmitt Smith 5-11 209 lbs
Reggie Bush 6-0 203 lbs
Smith ran behind the best offensive line in NFL history.
Bush will run behind???????????????

I'm just saying.......

I agree with you.
I hope Reggie will be great.
Nothing would make me happier.

I'm just saying.......

26DEUCE26 08-13-2006 01:49 AM

Bush has alot more speed than I remember Emmit ever having, not to mention he catches the ball out of the backfield better than Emmit.

God run, the O-line looked better than suspected

Yeah, I saw that on that pass that Brees shanked early on. The rush came hard, and Brees threw a bit too quick to keep from taking a sack, but the line held. They made some good blocks, and he had the time he needed.

That tells me the O-Line is better than Brees thought too.

That is good.

Sweetness II has arrived. tell you guys walter payton JR.. Henderson did good in blocking downfield. he just did not have the angle to put an excellent block on the defender to spring bush for the TD. Stop the what ifs on the duce trade thing. It will be a good 3 years before the team thinks about. If they are smart. Injuries are the only way to speed that up. We all want a healthy Duce so Bush becomes the best he can be in the NFL. Ol is a work in progress and I hope the look better next week. Get the starters back. the backups look better than I thought. That LT needs all 4 pre seasons game to get his sh*t together. :P

thib82 08-13-2006 07:15 AM

Yeah, Brown got beat too many times in a short period of time, but our RT didn't play too bad.Unfortunately, LT is the most important spot on the OL.

I totally agree. Had Henderson not fell down on his block, Bush was taking that one to the house!

BoudinSandwich 08-13-2006 08:38 AM

I'm another one who thinks that our offensive line didn't look as bad as everyone said it would. They may not be great, but it might be just enough for Brees to get by. Our QB's didn't look THAT flustered did they?

They didn't look bad in run blocking. Pass protection, on the other hand, was a different story. :?

BoudinSandwich 08-13-2006 08:48 AM

Maybe our QB's have really good composure. " 'Ol' cucumber head' they call me, man. "

maximkat 08-13-2006 09:13 AM

so maybe someone can help me out here, i check espn to see if they have the clip on their site(they always have that espn motion thing or whatever) and couldnt find it. then i check nfl.com they have video, but only of 1500 interviews i dont care about, why doesnt anyone put clips of the games on their sites, is there some legal issue im missing?

BoudinSandwich 08-13-2006 09:19 AM

Well, it's all over the ESPN channel. Watch Sports Center. It won't take long before they play it.

maximkat 08-13-2006 09:29 AM

jrmllb 08-13-2006 01:31 PM

BoudinSandwich 08-13-2006 02:10 PM

How sweet it is!

saintsrule 08-14-2006 03:12 AM

I knew he could and would do it, he will be a great player. I can't wait for the season to start.

neugey 08-14-2006 05:00 AM

It was not only the speed to get to the corner, it was also the quickness with which he made the cutback and the angle he took. IMHO, I don't know why people keep comparing him to Payton and Emmitt - he reminds me at times of Tony Dorsett. But Reggie's young, he'll define his own style over the coming years in the NFL.
