wr's?

i want to see more playing time outta bethel and stallworth didnt even play from what i saw. the special teams can use a michael lewis as a gunner hopefully he will play again. corners got beat deep a few times but thankfully titans dropped the ball. and dline needs better pressure on qb. thankfully no serious injuries, and the amac hit by a mascot is just another weird thing to involve the saints. all in all i cant wait til preseason is over and hopefulyl we can stay healthhy b/c i think we will surprise some EXPERTS if thats what u wanna call em.

RE: wr

given the fact that we were able to get alot of time in to a few backups with the first team OL was a plus. But it showed how far we have to go. way to soft all around. I would have to say they all did well. except Henderson. I know it is objective but I would have to say that was a clean drop. The rest did well altogther. If this keeps up it is going to be tough to make cuts. The guys with big contracts better be worried.

RE: wr

I hate to say it, but Henderson looked sloppy. He dropped one in the bread basket & fell down on his block that could have put Reggie Bush in the endzone. Jones, Colston, & Hass were impressive.

I pretty much agree with this. Yesterday, I thought the number 2 WR spot was either going to be Donte or Devery, after last night, it seems to be up in the air. They all performed well, with the exception of Devery. With Donte on the sidelines, it's hard to make a judgement on him, but Payton doesn't like him much already. I still think he will start in week one because he has more real playing time than pretty all the other receivers combined, with the exception of Joe Horn.

Henderson looked sloppy in all phases. He did nothing but anger me last night.

saintsplaya 08-13-2006 11:31 AM

when devery dropped that pass he didnt look to natural trying to catch it. hes not a natural receiver thats for sure but i think he will be able to produce big plays. he was a rb comin to lsu from opelousas, and then moved to wr later on in his college career. id love to see bethel, stallworth, michael lewis, and devery on the field at the same time just b/c of there speed. we would probably have to hand the ball off b/c they'd drop the ball if we threw it but opposing teams would have a hard time covering all that speed.

gandhi1007 08-13-2006 11:34 AM

If we're going to have Devery on the roster, I'd rather see him as a KR or PR. There.....he could be dangerous. As a wideout, you have to catch the ball in motion.....which obviously Devery cannot do.

FatiusJeebs 08-14-2006 10:00 AM

I think they should convert Devery into a CB or something. Lyman, Hass, Colston.....impressed!

Anyone who watched that game and still thinks this team will win more than 6 games is crazy. There were a lot of encouraging things to come out of it, but boy do we have issues. Jammal Brown was abused at left tackle. The guard play was attrocious...i know we were missing Mayberry and Holland...FIncher had zero tackles and played the majority of the game. Jason Craft is aweful. Henderson still cant catch and Donte is in the doghouse. I like Colston and Hass as much as you guys, but they are not top flight receivers. Gonna be another long year, but a more entertaining year. The team will be better, but still not good.

Though is sounds pretty negative, but there is some truth to what you just said. But then again, it was only the FIRST preseason game... so don't be so down just yet. We have plenty of games left before the season starts... just remember that.

DH did look bad... He blocked for Bush for a while then collasped, although he did provide for some extra yardage...

The last two weeks, Dh has been having an excellent Camp, I wish he can carry that consistency to the feild, though

Henderson is 2-3 years from breakout. He can make some circus catches occasionally, but his routes are sloppy and his work on the field is generally poor for the high draft choice that was expended. Another classis blunder by Hasbeen, Ventilated, LoomBoom, and last year's set of coaching fools. Payton has a lot to look at. While Michael Lewis is one of my sentimental favorites, he is long in the tooth and is slowed by his injury. If it were up to me to decide, I'd trade Stallworth and Henderson, develop Colston and Hass., keep Joe Horn as #1, and back up with Jamal Brown. Lyman looks good,, but is questionable with his knees. Brown is tough and catches everything thrown his way. I am sad to say that Michael is gone, because he has the biggest heart of any player on that tea. Saddly, Hasbeen screwed him over by letting him get hurt. We're gonna suffer from that.

All in all, Stallworth and Henderson need to pack. Craft also.

Lance Moore is a stud and should play more in the future!

jrmllb 08-14-2006 04:51 PM

He's go to have great hands to catch that duck Bouman threw at him...

MatthewT 08-14-2006 04:55 PM

Unfortunately, it appears Beer Man is going to have a tough time cracking the roster. Some of the guys who were thought of as trying to earn a roster spot, or even a spot on the practice squad, may have made it. Guys like Hass, Lyman, Colston, Jones, and Moore looked pretty darn good.

I am getting the feeling if some else steps up and can take return duties over both will be cut. As for the others it may come down to cap room cuts. Donte and henderson so far have not shown the can justify the pay. they got 3 more weeks to go. time to get a little "gitty up " in their game

D24pick 08-14-2006 09:37 PM

Henderson can breakout this yr, with the Saints needing help at other positions they may likely trade Stall...They'll keep Dh, b/c of the fact that Johnson likes him and he really wants to work at keeping DH consistent...With Brees his passing buddy, he'll surely have a good chance at being his next McCardell, while Horn is Gates and Colston and Hass team up as Parker and Caldwell

hagan714 08-15-2006 07:10 AM

I find it funny how most people before the draft were saying we had the best group of WR. now that some talented young FA, UDFA, and late round draft picks show up that can catch, some of those people are ready to rebuild the unit. some just do not talk about it. funny how the song changes tune. I love it. Maybe this year the D will have to forget about drops passes and worry about the WR catching the ball for the first downs. That makes it better for the RB. you can not play 8 in the box when the WRs can catch and can win games for you. Horn is going to love it too.

Bobaganoosh 08-15-2006 12:43 PM

The Saints WR's are deep, and that can be a good thing...but none of them with the exception of Horn and Stallworth are legitimate starting WR's. Henderson, Hass and a bunch of the younger guys are all about potential...just like every other WR in the league. This team is really worse than i thought and i had blinders on after the draft. I was riding the high of Bush and Brees, but as it turns out, this is a bad football team. Even the coaches have said it. They have gotten better at positions that were already solid and havent gotten better at the positions that were bad...DT, MLB, CB, OL...and that is going to kill us. I am hoping for a great season but realistically, this team may not win 4 games this year.

Probably closer to reality than some of the Super Bowl talk I've seen around here. Not everyone looks through rose-colored glasses....
