Cut Henderson......

Not impressed by the guy not just because of that game but pass few years .... just cut him he will not be a good WR speed dosent make the reciever ..... if only some ppl new that....

RE: Cut Henderson......

i think we all have the same sentiment.... especially when we have guys that may not be as fast but can catch everything thrown their way... might be a different story if we had nobody better... we'd have to endure his consistent inconsistency....

gandhi1007 08-13-2006 12:22 PM

RE: Cut Henderson......

He may be okay as a PR or KR as I said in another thread, but not WR. Receivers have to be able to catch the ball while in motion. As for the speed thing.....you've got a guy that's 6'4"-230 lbs., runs a 4.45 forty & doesn't drop anything. Play Colston in the #2 spot, Hass in the #3, trade Stallworth for a DT or a CB that can actually play, & move Henderson to PR or KR.

chRxis 08-13-2006 12:37 PM

RE: Cut Henderson......

it may be a little premature to lobby for colston at #2.... let's have him go against a 1st team defense first.... don't get hung up on his physical size and speed.... he's good... but that jump you are talking about is a little premature.... good ideas though if in fact he can play the #2... hass is definitely our #3.... the guy is the second coming of ricky proehl, wayne chrebet, and steve largent.... alright it's nascar time so i'll see you guys later...

He did. He was wide open for six last night had Brees not been under pressure & threw it about 10 feet over his head. That was against the Titans 1st team defense. Sorry.... I've been pulling for this guy since before the draft & I really think he'll be a good one.

Colston actually that fast? Sounds like a slightly bigger Owens...

He may actually be faster.

Colston, a late-round pick at best after catching 70 passes for 975 yards and five touchdowns for Hofstra last fall, ran a 4.43 40-yard dash at the combine. Combine that speed with a 37-inch vertical jump, a 10-3 broad jump and a long shuttle time of 11.27 seconds, and Colston's secret is out.

He isn't considered a late-round pick anymore.

"I think I surprised a lot of NFL people with my time in the 40," said Colston, back in Harrisburg after spending last Thursday through Sunday in Indianapolis.

"I really don't think I was expected to run that fast, not at my size. I think most people were probably thinking I'd run around 4.6.
http://anygivensaturday.com/ralphblo...60301192023815

The worst time I've seen on him so for in the forty is 4.55.

As for the T.O. comparison.....didn't he come out of nowhere from a small school as well?

whoa now.... we are comparing our late round pick of 2006 to a guy that average 1200yds, 80 catches, and 12 td's a year... that's lofty.... especially since TO does that against the best defensive backs in the league and colston has played in a preseason game vs. the titans... in time grasshopper, in time.... let's not induct colston into the hall of fame just based on his size and speed.... we'll see how good he is when he goes up against ronde barber, ken lucas, deangelo hall, etc....

Crusader 08-13-2006 01:23 PM

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Cut Henderson......

Man calm down, the only thing I compared was size and speed. Nobody talked about production or anything such.

Easy now.....No one said Colston was instantly another T.O. We were just stating the obvious. He's bigger. He's faster. He doesn't drop much. And last.....he comes from a small school, like Owens. Now, that said....he did shine against top college competition in the East-West Shrine game. I'm not saying that it's a definate that will continue in the NFL, but I have a feeling this guy was the steal of the draft.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Cut Henderson......

i gotcha.... but when i see ppl mentioning TO and our 6th rd. pick in the same sentence i start worrying.... i think he'll be good, not great, at either wr or te, if he were to pick up some muscle mass...... i hope i'm wrong... i hope he does become the next great wr, but honestly, i don't see that happening....

If he were to pick up muscle mass? Have you seen this guy? The dude is chisled like a rock. Anyway..... don't sleep on this guy just because he was a 7th rounder. I wanted this cat with a 4th rounder! :D I think we were absolutely blessed to get him w/ a 7th round pick!

chRxis 08-13-2006 02:03 PM

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Cut Henderson......

muscle mass was meant as weight but not fat.... i know the guy is muscular.... i was trying to imply that he could put on some pounds but not fat and possibly be a good te.... i'm not sleeping on him... read where i said he should be one of the six we keep on the team at his position.... i was just trying to clear the air about comparing him to really anyone, esp. TO... there's a reason he was a 7th rd. pick, and it's not only b/c he's from a small school... we'll see.... like i said, i am sincerely hoping i'm wrong and he becomes the greatest wr of all time....

Gotcha'! :D Don't count on him being converted to a TE, though. The FO & coaching staff have already made up their minds that this guy is going to play WR for us.

"He's going to play receiver for us, said Mueller about Colston's potential role. "He's not going to be a tight end and we've got that question a lot. He's 6-4 and a half, the kid can run. He's a dominant player at that level at Hofstra. We like what he brings to the table, but he's got a long ways to go. He's raw. He's going to have to learn different routes. He's going to catch a fade, a slant, a bubble screen, but he's going to have to learn the route tree. He's going to have to learn to play the game at a different level, but this kid's got speed."

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Cut Henderson......

If Henderson does not learn to catch the ball, he may have trouble making the team. It's still very early and I say give him a chance to improve. His speed is a great weapon, but there is no weapon if the ball is not caught. I was very impressed by the guys playing behind him. Looks like the Saints have some guys who can catch the ball and move the chains. Overall, this WR group looks to be very good.

JOESAM2002 08-13-2006 04:40 PM

I'm telling you guys, he's caught everything thrown to him in camp. How many passes did he drop last night? He's better than you think.

WhoDat 08-13-2006 05:54 PM

My thoughts:

I have to disagree with my esteemed collegue, Mr. Joe "Pacemaker" Sam. I don't think Henderson will ever live up to expectations. He has prototypical size and above average speed. However, he seems to have below average hands and brains - and those are the two things that matter most (see Horn, Harrison, Ward, etc).

IMO, Horn is resurgent this season, and Stallworth continues his upward tick from last season. I still can't believe people are so down on Stallworth. The trade talk seems nuts to me. The guy had 42 receptions and almost 600 yards and 8 TDs in 7 games as a rookie. Yeah, he was hurt for basically two years after. I know. But a guy can't choose when he gets hurt. He's been healthy since, and in 2004 (basically his second season if you take away for injuries) he had 58 rec, 770 yards and 5 TDs. Last year, on a 3-13 team, no real 2nd threat, in AB's worst year ever, and with Tod Bouman throwing him the ball for three games, he improved to 70 rec, 945 yards and 7 TDs. If the guy improves this year over last year as much as he did last year over the year before he should have 85+ rec, 1150+ yards, and 8+ TDs. Those are legit #1 numbers.

I think Stallworth is our future at WR. Behind him, I think Colston is a good prospect, but so is Hass, Jones, Lyman, etc.

However, I just don't see Henderson ever making it.

Maybe you should tell Coach Payton about that. Stallworth was well enough to practice this past week. Why didn't he play?

Being an LSU fan as well, I want to pull for Devery......but sooner or later we've got to face the fact that he's got hands of stone. He dropped a bunch as a Tiger & he's still dropping them as a Saint. :? He's like that guy on that football movie with Sinbad.......Brees will have to get the ball stuck in his face mask for him to make the catch. :D

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Cut Henderson...

Colston to me, looks like a slightly smaller version of Vernon Davis and he does look like he could cause some matchup problems. I'd keep him at WR, but's let's see more of his route-running before elevating him to #2.

thib82 08-13-2006 11:24 PM

Yeah, Colston needs to prove he can run routes at an NFl level. I havent seen enough of him to make a decision. Yes he has great size and speed to go with it, but route running is one of the most important traits in a receiver, behind catching the ball.

saintsrule 08-14-2006 02:18 AM

The play of the WRs, in that game was awesome. They rarely dropped passes and looked like good receivers. This will be the hardest part of the team to cut players.

D24pick 08-14-2006 09:31 AM

Colston will improve and play consistently...
I see the guy going hard, this yr and the next...With all the talent he has, why not let em play??? He wasn't even expected to play this good at this point

On DH, I say keep em...I'm a LSU fan and I know for a fact the guy can catch, like JOESAM said, he looks excellent man...He been catching every single ball, diving, one-handed, and jumping quickly...He looks better than you know, I know we'll keep em cause after DH makes a nice play, our WR Coach Johnson(who's known for developing recievers) always talks to him to keep him focus...He likes DH and Brees seems to love him as a quick target and deep ball man

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Cut Henderson...

I don't hate Devery but I think that we have some serious players at WR that can do the job just as good as Henderson if not better.
