The WR Dilemma and Rant About It

If the O-line and LBs are the thin spots then WR has to be the embarrassment of riches for the team. Granted it is a bunch of young and unproven guys but they certainly look to have what it takes to succeed. What I hated Reprish say during the game was along the lines of, "yeah, you'll definitely be seeing some of these guys playing on other teams during the season..." There was no mention of wheeling or dealing, my impression was that he meant some are going to be cut and catch on other places. I don't get this! If you know you have an excess of a viable commodity, then trade some away and get help at an area of need or least a draft pick. Washington just got CB Mike Rumph from SF for WR Taylor Jacobs. I don't know a lot about Jacobs but I wonder if they would'nt rather have had any of our guys from Devery on down? Rumph not All-Pro but I am willing to bet he is better than Craft.

I prefer Stallworth to stay but if he is on the outs that bad with Payton then get something for him. There are plenty of players that could help the shallow spots. If no, a 2nd round pick for a strong #2 guy is reasonable.

Henderson is the one I would like to see moved if I was choosing. Get something for him while you can. Another year of his hands of stone and you won't get anything.

If one of those two were moved it would still be hard to pick 3 from the rest. So trading the ones you don't think will stick for any other player that has a chance to make the team would be prudent. The Eagles trading to get the undrafted Hank Baskett is a perfect example. Based on the buzz from camp I have garnered and one game they look like this to me-

Chris Horn, Johnson, Lewis- veterans with some track record. Horn acquired because he was a noted special teams stud. I haven't heard much about his performance though. Johnson, if he has the attitude adjusted could make the team for his speed and as a kick returner- especially if Henderson and/or Lewis are not around. At this point it seems Lewis could only make the team by the "skins on his wall" as Payton called it. He might go into the season PUP.

Colston, Lyman, Hass- unproven draftees. They all have been excellent thusfar. It will be painful to see any of them go to another team without compensation. I would feel good with the 3 of them rotating across from Joe. Special team play will probably be a key factor in the decision. Probably a little favor to Hass and Colston since they weren't from a haz draft.

Moore and Jones- undrafted. Normally you would easily X these guys off. The word from camp though that Jones has been as good as anyone. Moore good too, plus an excellent game. Payton says it is tangible performance that will earn a spot... so you never know.

With several teams clamoring for wideouts Loomis better get on the horn before we see these guys walk onto other teams free of charge.
