Stallworth

Hater 1: I heard Stallworth was going to be traded to Dallas.

Hater 2: I heard Minny!

Hater 3: Maybe we could dump him on San Diego!!

Hater 4: I thought we were trading him to Tennessee for their mascot!!

Everybody ready?

Stallworth should be a Saint. Odds are, he will be a Saint this season. Moreover, I'm willing to take bets right now that, if a Saint (and healthy), he leads the team in all major receiving categories for the second straight year. Any takers?

Countdown to hagan posting false stats about Donte: 3.......2........1..........

D_it_up 08-17-2006 02:59 PM

What's up, WhoDat...Long time, brudda....

I'm content with Stallworth...He stepped up his game last year when there was nothing to smile about...Filled in nicely for Horn while he was injured...If the Saints trade him, they better get equal value...If they don't, then the Saints should still have the potential for one of the most explosive offenses in the league...

neugey 08-17-2006 03:02 PM

I think we'll have a tough time moving Donte now. Any team taking him on will be prone to losing him in FA next year. Which means they're only getting a rental player for this year - unless they want to sign him to a new contract after the trade and essentially make him the top WR they want to build around. Very few teams would be willing to do that at this time of year. There may be a few teams that probably should do it (Atlanta, Green Bay, Jax) but I doubt they'll give us enough in return to make it worth their while. But we'll see.

If I'm not mistaken, we can slap the franchise tagto keep him from becoming an FA next year. Just something to consider ...

If the Saints wouldn't slap the franchise tag on Bentley, I can't see how they'd slap it on Stallworth, who clearly isn't the #1 on the team.

Yeah when Horn was gone, he's #1 but not the most consistent player we really need, but he defintely can contribute now that we have Brees instead of No-Brain Brooks

chRxis 08-17-2006 06:02 PM

i definitely think that when healthy, stallworth is a great threat for our offense... however, for whatever reason this offseason has been difficult... whether he doesn't get along with payton or whatever, he better get over it real quick... he's in a contract year, which the saints could (and should) reward him with a nice contract next offseason.... he's done a good job the last 2 years for us and i hope he's around to make it 3 years....

spkb25 08-17-2006 08:16 PM

i think horn will lead in receiving

GoldRush26 08-18-2006 12:13 AM

I will take that bet WhoDat. Only reason he got his yards last season is because Horn was injured. Barring injury Horn will be the same ol Horn. I don't see anything that would suggest that Stallworth will make a monumental leap over a healthy Horn.

saintsrule 08-18-2006 02:57 AM

I think he is ready to be the #1 WR.

hagan714 08-18-2006 04:46 AM

oh no whodi has to cut me off at the pass.
we already beaten to death that "objective" thing, whats was it?
oh yeah the definition of a drop pass. :bang:

Your boy will get his chance. Lets see what he does. I betting on a repeat of history again. here or else where
top 10 finish in drops again this year.

cajuntexcop 08-18-2006 05:18 AM

Can I take a slight step back. The one thing that may help Stalls is that we have a more consistent QB this year. That May....MAY....help him. I still think he is headcase potential based on the off season stuff. And as much as we bash Brooks, he let a lot of balls get away from him that were more than catchable. Either of those things will land him in Paytons dog house for sure if it persists. Guess only time will tell. In reality I hope he has the greatest year ever, and the Saints win the Superbowl. But that has been my hope since the inception of this franchise...I Believe :saintsfan:

Ways possible...

If Horn blows his knee out after the 3rd game perhaps?
If Horn stays injured like he did all last year?
If Horns age finally catches up to him like it started to do last year.
If Brees develops some chemistry with Stallworth.
Stallworth is in a contract year, and for some reason players seem to do very well.

Stallworth made huge strides last year. I wouldn't say there's NO WAY POSSIBLE he leads us in receptions.

thib82 08-18-2006 07:17 AM

I really think, if he isn't gone by week one, he won't be traded or cut this season. But, I think that no matter what kind of season he has (except for a pro-bowl year), this will be Donte's last season as a Saint. It will take some major improvement in his work ethic and attitude for Payton to change his mind about this guy.

LKelley67 08-18-2006 09:18 AM

first, I AM a stall fan. I think he should be kept but long termed or ready to pay franchise cost next year. That said, I just do not think there is any real chance for him to be here in '07. So if he is gonna go, DO get something for him. The wealth young good looking receivers, even if unproven, certainly makes this easier.

Check his myspace page (real). Then imagine Payton talking to him through the window of his Bentley... LOL

Stallworth is a good player who is quickly becoming expendable on this team.

Does anyone think he has reached the height of his potential?

blackwidows 08-18-2006 10:57 AM

You know i must say Horn is over 30. We all know once your over 30 your bones start to get as fragile as rice cakes, or shall I say a fragile wine glass. Don't get me wrong I hope he does well but I don't see hime fulfilling his contract. I mean I think Duece and horn have contracts till 2012. Bye the way i'm only buying jersey's for now on of players that will retire saints. Horn looks like he will. He is than supposively he is looking into movie stardom. Damn still don't understand why he didn't take any of thoughs cell phone commercial offers lmao that would be funny. Just run the replay of him pulling out the cell phone. Thats gold right there.

jdiggy 08-18-2006 11:08 AM

Not to keep beating a dead horse but...

kind of ironic his myspace quote says not to settle for mediocrity when he's settled for that for years...

I think you can scratch that one of. For one, he hasn't even been practicing with the first team. Second, there's already been reports on the news about how Brees and Horn have developed that "chemistry".

LKelley67 08-18-2006 12:12 PM

Payton isn't a Tuna clone but you sure can see the similarities. Like Tuna with T.O. this week... "It's time to be out there practicing. If you don't practice, you don't play..." etc.

If the FO isn't burning the phone lines I don't know why. Get'er done.

hagan714 08-18-2006 03:19 PM

horn blows the knee again, stallworth will pull his hammie again, then we get to see what we really got. Lossing horn will cost us at least 2 wins, donte would be a wash. no way donte beats horn. donte is not clutch.
