Stop the whining
... if this were Payton's 3rd year, ok. I'd complain too.
But it's his first year as a head coach, with players he's getting to know and players who are getting to know the coaches, with players learning new offense and defense schemes. ... wait at least until week five o start whining. |
RE: Stop the whining
Wow.....this is one of those rare moments where..........I actually agree with Tobias.
|
RE: Stop the whining
hahaha me too
|
RE: Stop the whining
I agree as well....I take absolutely no stock in pre-season games. I'm not saying the Saints are going to be leaps and bounds better by Week 1, but I'm not going to throw in the towel because of a piss poor showing in a pre-season game. It is all going to take some time. It's not going to be a quick fix.
|
Remember, 42 new faces on the team. Might cause a problem? Ya think?
|
Kinda feels like Dallas at the start of the J.J. era. a ton of new faces. Hopefully with continuity...the results will end up like those of the Cowboys from the 90's.
|
Ditto. Payton has full fledged support and a free pass for now. It won't take a lot to keep it positive either. A few more wins but more importantly solid execution, good game planning, and management. The penalties, dumbass play calling, choosing and standing by goofy players were some of my biggest beefs the past few seasons.
3-1 or 1-3 preseason I could care less. Let's see the first team move the ball though. If the defense could put pass D and run D together on the same week it might be surprising. |
^^^Exactly^^^

I'm not one to put a lot of stock in exhibition games either but I would like to see a Saint cornerback around a receiver on a 3rd and 8. There's nothing wrong with playing vanilla defense but it's troublesome to see that the Saints were having major difficulty executing basic defensive schemes.
As for the offense, there's is no excuse in Brees throwing the ball to FB Mike Karney's feet twice when he was wide open. That's basic "west coast" offense. Forget the O-line...both of those plays would have gone for first downs and that's one of the best ways to slow down a pass rush. This is basic execution stuff and the Saints really should have no trouble getting it squared away. If they do, we're in big trouble. One other point...or question. How come Dallas has no problem executing two tight end sets and the Saint's can't?! And what happened to Ernie Conwell. I thought he started. What are we paying him for? |

RE: Re: Stop the whining
The weird part is. if the Saints had won the game 30-7, people would be saying "it is only preseason, and this win doesn't count". Well, this lost doesn't count either. Just let them play the season, and be happy that the team is still here.
|
RE: Re: Stop the whining
Saintsrule you make a valid point. The only thing that concerns me though is that our first team was down 17-0 by the end of the half. Now I know its preseason but...still....I'm a little concerned by that. I'm sure with planning and adjustments the Saints could have mustered some 2nd half action if this was a regular season game but like I said....it was just bugging me to see that we had the ball for like a total of 4 minutes in the entire first half.

RE: Re: Stop the whining
give me another beer is all I can say. put on the rose colored glasses and all is fine in la la land.

RE: Re: Stop the whining
You Know with all the bad plays, the 3 and outs, drop passes, missed tackles, the thing that pissed me off the most was the play of Jammell Brown. I mean if the DE is faster then him and go's around him I can understand, but he was going bullrushs all nite. And trust me, if he can't handle Dallas DE he can't handle the DE in the NFC South. So tell me is that whinning?

Quit whining about the whining. :D 8) |
patience Saint's fans!
I figure that this team will struggle to find themselves on the offensive line, defense and special teams four about half of the season. There's a lot of new players and coaches, and new plays to develop. we may need to pick up another DT as well as Edwards at linebacker, but nonetheless this team will be much better than what they looked like against Dallas. The players they do have will get better or else! Haslett's not the coach anymore, so if we struggle, changes will be made for the better.

Last year after the Saints's emotional opening win over Carolina, I took a trip to one of the Panthers's forums, and bear in mind the Panthers had lost by THREE FREAKIN POINTS to a team who was playing that day for an entire Gulf Coast region.........and I was amazed at all the gloom and doom everyone was spouting. "It's gonna be a looonnnggg season", among other things was being thrown around.
Carolina wound up going to the NFC title game. Obviously I'm not compariing this year's Saints to last year's Panthers, but let's not start writing the season off just yet based on a preseason loss to a fairly decent Cowboys team. One other thing: didn't the 2000 season division-winning Saints start the season 1-3 ? |

My assessment is that anything will be better than the inconsistent, turnover filled, mistake ridden football we've seen from the Saints of late. I can live with the team losing if they are playing smart, competitive football. I believe we're going to need another year of player and system acquisistion before you see a great jump in wins. SFIAH |
I'll be happy this year with a competitive team that actually makes me want to watch every Sunday unlike the way I've felt the last couple of years.
|
It's good to see some people realize what a joke the outcome of preason games really is!
|
I honestly think the Saints are gonna look exactly like the Dolphins did last year. A whole new team....new players...so on and so on. We are gonna lose a few at first. I see this team gelling together as the season goes on and they will start to string together victories.

It's important that the Saints get off to a good start. We need to take Cleveland, GB, and possibly Atlanta in those first three games to have any hope of a successful season. SFIAH |
pass me anotner beer please. it is fuel of hope

This season isn't going to be pretty. I'm sure we have the toughest 4th place schedule in the league this year, playing arguably the three toughest divisons in the game (NFC South, NFC East, AFC North). The objective is to get better. Play smarter football. Then once we can get a full complement of good players in, then the system along with those players will improve the team. SFIAH |
Preseason is glorified practice you have to pay to see!
|
Just because this is preseason and this is Payton's first year DOES NOT give McKenzie a pass. He still sucks arse.
I'm not whining but on the other hand the preseason IS a decent indicator. If we were blowing teams away and every part of the team was firing on all cylinders how many people here would be saying "it's just preseason" or "it's just glorified practice"? |

I think we will do good in those three games-as long as farve doesn't kill us. Vick is overrated and the team will be psyched for that game. CLeveland-well, I'm not sure they will feild anything but a MASH unit this year. |
I'm still a little worried about the D and the opposing offence getting down the field seemingly at will.
I know it's going to take time as well, but hey it can't be worse then last year....Right? |
