Deuce looks much thinner, an much faster!

I think he looked pretty good out there. I can tell he's definitely feeling the competition, and looks to be thriving off of it.

I cracked a big long grin when he bulldozed his way into the endzone. It's been awhile.

Yeah, well.....he better look good. He's got a rookie by the name of Reggie Bush nipping at his heels like a rabid chihuaha.

I don't understand why we didn't try to pound the ball more the first half... the outcome would have been much closer. Deuce does look good out there... just like the Deuce of old.

Whoopsie Brah!
They must co-exist.
The Salary Cap situation dictates this.
Their individual success (long term) to me seems to rest within a symbiotic relationship.
Deuce+Reggie=longevity
or if you will
Reggie+Deuce=longevity
For both of their careers
It still is in question as to how this will play out.
From what I have seen of Deuce though, I have a hard time believing he would begrudge another player helping his team win.
Reggie shared carries/ touches with LenDale White.
I have a hard believing he would be upset with Deuce's touches if it benefits his team.
Then again,.
I could be full of poop.
I am and will continue to be a.............

Sean pretty much knows and is comfortable with his running game.
You don't scheme for a particular opponent in the preseason.
Also, Why would you "Tip Your Hand" and give up your playbook when you have Deuce and Reggie?
We weren't playing against the Colts as much as finding out what our personnel are capable of executing within our own (vanilla) playbook.
The emphasis was obviously on the O-Line and the WRs.
Look at the run to pass ratio in the first half.
Why look at Deuce?
Why look at Reggie?
Will either of them be cut?
Need I answer?
The WR s needed a showcase.
As did Brees' arm.
Again, I doubt the staff even looked at the Colts' personnel and scheme as far as winning the game.
Who cares?
The Preseason is used to evaluate your own personnel to see how well they will execute your team's overall scheme.
Could the Saints compete with the Colts in the Regular Season?
Not likely.
This is Preseason though.
Take a deep breath and relax....
We seem to have a tough coach that win or lose (this year) will only accept competitive players around him.
That alone is a reason for me to think of............

SUNSHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice to see. Like Rocky stated, their success depends on each other. Hopefully we see the old Deuce and lots of it healthy for the whole year!!!

papz 08-27-2006 09:59 AM

Umm... then why pound the ball with Deuce and Reggie in the second half Rocky? You're just making an excuse for them to suck. I do see the point you're trying to make though... but it's not working here. So first half Payton decided to evaluate the WR's and in the second half it was the RB's turn. Come on now.

He looked good, glad for a few reason, one he'll be a big part of our offense again and yesterday I drafted him in my league and wondered if I made the right choice, I also drafted Bush in the event he couldn't play due to injury,
I'm worried about our chances this season in winning, we just look awful to say the least, keeping the faith though...

LKelley67 08-27-2006 11:15 AM

Ditto for being a good outing for Deuce. I do think the one thing they do not want to show much at all until the season is the sets with both Deuce and bush in the same backfield. THAT will be a powerful weapon full of options, Once we get to Cleveland I believe we will be saying "Ohhhh, like THAT!" hehe

hagan714 08-27-2006 12:43 PM

he is another player that will benifit from forgetting the fatten up Haz mentality.

Deuce has looked really good in the two games he's played - granted, he only had, like, 2-carries in the first game. He still did nice pounding the ball and making the hole that wasn't there. Deuce is going to hurt teams this year. And, just when they figure out how to stop them, Baby Matrix brings a whole new deminsion. Then, while the team is debating over who to cover, there goes Joe Horn over the top.

I can't wait until the regular season. We'll actually have a game plan and won't be evaluating talent. I think Payton was trying to get Brees into the feel of the game for the first half. Brees had very little playing time in the first two games. His shoulder is fine, but he hasn't thrown long routes all Summer and it's time he gets a lot of reps to find his groove once again.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking papz. We were trying to throw it way too much, to guys like Ernie Conwell and Jammal Jones. We need to be pounding it in there with Deuce (who by the way looks better than he has in years, more on this later) and then swinging it out to Bush. We threw it almost 20 times in the first half.

Anyways, about Deuce. He looks a lot slimmer than he has the last two years, which I think is probably the best thing for him. The last two years he just kept getting bigger and bigger and you could tell that it was taking a toll on his speed and agility. I always think back to that game against the Panthers at the end of the 2004 season when Deuce broke that long run down the left side, and offensive linemen were beating him down the field getting blocks and defensive linemen were chasing him down. It was ridiculous. Now he looks streamlined, but he's just naturally a big fella so he can still use his power to his advantage. I am looking for Payton to give the ball to the big man, and then mix in Bush runs and Brees passes.

Saint25 08-27-2006 07:04 PM

Thats the best Deuce has looked in a while. I have not felt real good about him latley but he looks to be coming back around.

D24pick 08-27-2006 07:43 PM

Hey Saint25, you know you have my login name on another site

Anyways, Deuce is back to the old take a 80 yarder on Phillies D form...I think he'll get his 1,000 yards again this season coming off an injury, even though his run was against a lower rated D

saintsrule 08-28-2006 02:46 AM

I think he was doing good before the injury, and I was sure he would be back after the injury. I hope the Saints lead the league in rushing, with Deuce and Reggie.

shackney 08-28-2006 11:39 AM

Duece looks great..lean and fast! Reggie and Duece have to co-exist, but Duece knows if he doesn't bring it, he will not be around more than a year. If he continues to play at a high level, then he will get the touches. Competition is good in this case. Duece has to perform
