With Stallworth gone, will this open the door door for?

With Stallworth all packed up to go spend time with Darren Howard, will this open the door for the Saints to get the running for the Deion Branch? I dont know how many you felt about Joe Horn getting that new contract while back, but he isnt going to get any younger. Branch is only 25 and the man has talent?

Is anyone eles with me?

Not really.

:nono:
Not so much.

Well there's rumors floating around about this but I don't see what the Pats would want from us in return besides a draft pick.

GoldRush26 08-28-2006 08:53 PM

While I wouldn't mind Branch, I just don't see it happening. I want us to have Stallworth's spot up for grabs because we have lots of young WRs that are hungry and ready to prove themselves. Bringing in Branch wouldn't be a confidence builder for them, although I could understand the move if they think we have the talent to compete this year.

AllSaints 08-28-2006 09:15 PM

Branch please...... lol your dreaming saints wont get branch and looks like the donnie edwards talk is over tooo.....

LKelley67 08-28-2006 11:56 PM

Branch is kewl but I don't think he is worth a first round pick (especially anothe good one possibly) and his contract demands are beyond his production level. NE put him out for trade possibility to see that no one was going to offer much, if any, more than they have.

Colston....Colston....Colston!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nola_swammi 08-29-2006 12:51 AM

Their is no way i can look at this a good move. Horn probably have 2 season left in him (this and next season), and he is not a Steve Smith or T.O that can still dominate double teams. For the record I hate everything Payton, Loomis or whomever did with this team. If it wasn't for the Texans passing on Bush I wouldn't watch a single saint game.

jdiggy 08-29-2006 12:52 AM

Why would we pick up another WR? We just got rid of one to make room for our other talented many...

Payton said Colston's improvement has allowed for Stallworth's trade.

Now we need OL, or CB's! Come on Loomis make a move. Henderson?

I am surprised that they could have a young WR at the #3 spot. Although Devery is a third year player, so I can see him at that spot.

cajuntexcop 08-29-2006 01:27 AM

Why not let a young guy in???// Look, it is basically a rebuilding of sorts. Look at Boldin in Arizona, and Gates in San Diego. These guys were phenominal their rookie season and have continued to improve. They were young too, and look where they are now. I said it in another post but these guys are hungry....they appear to love the game and are damn happy to have an opportunity. This is a great trade, and we don't need Branch. PERIOD!!!! Let's let these guys have a shot. Now is the time.....and besides......they appear to be able to catch and hold on to the ball.......unlike someone else we have seen....

"When asked if Colston would be the No. 2 receiver, Payton said, "Right now, no question."!

LKelley67 08-29-2006 07:57 AM

I do like what has been happening with this team. As I spouted in another thread, I was going nuts before last year watching the organization lose the same old way with the same kind of players. Granted, every move may not pan out to be wonderful. What the worst that can happen? Go 3-13? LOL I do like the Parcells-like "it is who plays hard and who produces" approach. No more entitlement or coaches pets. No more infatuation with athletes over solid ballplayers.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooo

nah we did not free up that much cap room with the trade. besides our WR are set? would be nice but I do not think he wants to come to club that is rebuilding. remember he is doing the shopping not the Pats. He is finding out if he is worth what he thinks he is worth right now. so are the Pats. i am beating he is with the Pats this year and mant more after the shopping is done. besides it would be stupid to put a #1 on him with so many one year deals in place this year. look for a WR to be drafted on day one of next years draft.

we need branch like Imelda Marcos needs another pair of shoes...Branch will end up in Atlanta snuggled up to Vick or in Minnysnuggled up to someone on a boat or in a stairwell...let them have him I wanna see what Colston does when Horn and Bush draw double coverages...

I think Seattle or the Bears. teams that can afford to give up a #1 if any.

LKelley67 08-29-2006 08:36 AM

I have seen a few notes like this already on the fantasy impact of this trade...

"now expect to see Bush in the slot and backfield catching upwards of 60 passes this season."

I dislike Kiper but I did like his draft day comment "Reggie Bush would have been a first round pick if he wasn't a running back."

Deuce averaged 50 catches the 3 seasons before last year. With Bush and Deuce in the backfield, one of them can swingout for a catch on everyplay and still have a dangerous runner to contend with at the line. I'm old enough to remember Thunder and Lightning I, Muncie and Galbreath. Muncie wasn't a great receiver and Tony wasn't a great runner though. Reggie will have to be covered like a wideout. This duo has potential to be unique like nothing seen before.

Reggie 60, Deuce 50, Joe back to 80+, and that leaves enough to spread around to the young WRs and TE.
