Conspiracy Theory on Relocation
I've long since moved away but wondering what the buzz is about Benson moving the team. Here's the conspiracy theory:
Benson wants to move. Oops Katrina comes. Bad, bad publicity to punch a city when it's down. NFL tells him no, not now. He gets in Brees and Bush (San Diego, USC). Knows that a ciy half its former size can't support a full stadium and corporate boxes. So, he gives it a few years to garner the sympathy vote and says, "I tried. I really tried. But this is a business and I'm hemorraging money in this crippled town." So, he sets his sights on Los Angeles (the City of Angels). Hmmm, Los Angeles Saints kinda fits doesn't it? NFL wants it bad there; Benson now has the justification to move there. 2008 it's in ink. 2009 it's done. And, the locals gotta like the local talent of Brees and Bush who are now Pro Bowl material. Am I crazy? Whachall think? |
I'm not sure, but I believe that the earliest possible opt out date for the Saints is now no earlier that 2010.

This is getting rediculous every year people think there obligated to post things about relocation. The fact is it basically up to the fans if the superdome is sold out week in and week out or attendance is good than it will not happen. I know about the possibility of population cdecline because of being katrina and relocation of fans. The reason for attendance being so high this year is because of the ticket refund policy being that games that where cancelled last year could be deemed for games going into this season. After this year could be in jeopardy.

Luxury Boxes generate big-time revenue. If those sell out then you can relax. Not before. |
