Some more inside news:

The Saints will cut:
Mike Hass
Jamal Branch
Chase Lyman
E.J. Kuale
Brandon Villareal

The Saints are going to be cutting these 5 players with hopes they clear waivers to form our practice squad. Once again, i will keep you posted.

This comes from my man on the inside. The guy who gets the list from the coach and cleans out the lockers when we cut them loose.

saintsfan1313 09-01-2006 10:09 AM

wow....well...lets see if this pans out to be true....if so...much props to homey with an inside source.....Hass and Branch going?? sux, i thought one of them would have made it..but who knows.....I just dont see Bockwoldt goin....hes too much of a bargain....

BlackandBlue 09-01-2006 10:10 AM

i've heard the rumors abour McPhereson and Hilton.....

hate to see them cut Branch, though. there are teams that will be combing the waiver wire for running backs, and he's solid.

ScottyRo 09-01-2006 10:10 AM

Cutting Branch is a mistake. He has looked too good against 2nd and 3rd stringers for some team needing a backup RB to have overlooked. I know we don't necessarily need another RB, but I hate to let talent go for nothing.

saintsfan1313 09-01-2006 10:13 AM

is this all going down today Boba?

jdiggy 09-01-2006 10:19 AM

How much of a cap hit would it be if we cut Stecker instead of Branch?

I would keep Branch over Stecker at this point. Stecker runs hard, but nothing hardly ever happens.

This kid can run! Keep him!

Why would they cut Lewis when they can out him on the PUP list and basically "protect his rights" for the next 6 weeks while he continues to rehab?

Yeah, that All-Pro returner sucks. I guess we have mulitiple better ones on the roster right now?

mjf150 09-01-2006 11:14 AM

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, Bobaganoosh, but the only thing I can currently find on the subject is what is stated in the following article, which includes a reference to A-Mac. It says that the Saints will more than likely petition the NFL for an exemption for him because of the manner in which his injury occured. The only players that article states are in immeadiate danger of being cut are punter Mitch Berger, linebacker Tommy Polley, guard Jermaine Mayberry, and McPherson, if the exemption is not granted. But, of course, there will be several others. It also mentions that Michael Lewis maybe placed on the PUP list.

When was the last time he was all pro? Step into the present please. Dude sucks. Or maybe we can find Tyrone Hughes # somewhere. Wasn't he all pro IN THE PAST for us too?

mjf150 09-01-2006 11:50 AM

According to the article below by the Times. This was the situation of who is likely to be cut before they played last nights final pre-season game:
QB: A-Mac
RB: Branch
TE: Hilton
WR: All but One of the following will be cut: Hass, C. Horn, Moore, Lyman, Johnson, and Lewis.

FatiusJeebs 09-01-2006 11:56 AM

I'm with Diggy on this one. I'd rather keep Branch instead of Stecker. I hope the Hass thing is not true.

Bobaganoosh 09-01-2006 12:24 PM

If i am wrong about this, i will apologize to each and every one of you...and i will be your lightning rod of hate, but i am telling you that what i wrote earlier is the truth. That is what has gone down thus far and the remainder of the cuts werent made yet. Some more will be made today and some will be made tomorrow, from what i am told, they are talking to other teams about some players and they are waiting to see who pops up on the waiver wire. But you can write down what i told you about the cuts and the potential practice squad.

papz 09-01-2006 01:33 PM

Sorry but Michael Lewis does suck... he was an all pro returner when again? Exactly... time for him to go.

So, when did he go from All-Pro to "suck?" I guess if a player gets hurt, they suck? Who is our return man? Or is it chic now to jump on the Lance Moore bandwagon for his one return in preseason?

So, has there been any talk of us trading for any players?

He was all pro what, 3 years ago? Let it go. He sucked before he got hurt. Skittering out of bounds all the damn time. I wanted to kick my TV every time he did that, which turned into every return. But damn, how long can you hold on to ONE all pro season? Move on. I'd rather Bethel return than Lewis all day every day. And don't even get into him as a receiver. It was a cute story at first, time to turn the page.

papz 09-01-2006 01:56 PM

How old is he again... ok let's keep him around. Don't kid yourself, he's not Brian Mitchell.

The guy has exactly ZERO moves... have you been watching the same games we've been watching the past couple of years?

BlackandBlue 09-01-2006 02:03 PM

funny.....

Charles Rogers is now expected to be cut by the Lions.

"Hey, you know Coach always talks about pounding the rock," the former No. 2 pick said. "I was the rock that got pounded." Rogers and Mike Williams, who is likely safe, barely played in Thursday's exhibition.

He never really had a lot of moves, but tremendous speed. A lot of the "out of bounds" was due to the previous regime wanting to angle ALL returns to the sidelines for some reason rather than the open field. Regardless of how old he is, holding onto him for 6 weeks without counting against our roster would allow us to evaluate him to see if the speed is still there. Seeing as how we have no return man on the roster, it would seem to be a low risk proposition.

Lewis' downfall occured after his first major knee injury. After that he was never the same. It seems that over the last couple of years he's spent most of his time looking to get to the sidelines, especially on punt returns.

To be an awesome returner you have to be fearless. Lewis has lost that fire in the last couple of years.
