I think Haynes has potential. I posted a thread about him a couple of days ago. I liked bryant but he was getting long in tooth.

I thought being able to slide Lyman, Kuale, and BRANCH to the practice squad was either good fortune, guile, or both.

2003 draft review
Notes: Father was in the military, and Haynes grew up in Panama, where he played soccer, volleyball and prep football. Redshirted as a fullback in 1998. Moved to the defensive line and backed up Courtney Brown at end in '99. Shared time and started two games in 2000. Started all but one game in '01 and led the team in sacks, but all it took was four. Had six tackles, one tackle for loss and half a sack in '99; 31-7-6 in 2000; and 41-11-4 in '01. Started all 13 games in '02, recording 80-23-15 with four passes broken up, one fumble recovery and seven forced fumbles.

Positives: Great quickness and movement rushing the passer. Good athletic ability and can shed on the move. Natural rusher. Above-average athlete with good movement skills. Flashes pass-rush ability. Has enough speed and playmaking ability. Makes plays.

Negatives: Does not have great power to beat first move and is not that fast. Has to improve at the point of attack against the run. Footwork improved in the last year-plus, but can get better. Lacks rare closing speed. Knows how to find the ball but could be better anticipating and adjusting.

Summary: Haynes' stock went up during his senior season and spiked further at the Senior Bowl. Has a chance to be a top-15 pick but has certain first-round talent.

Rob Petitti
Position: Offensive Tackle
College: Pittsburgh
Height: 6-6
Weight: 347
Hometown: Rumson, N.J.

ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a large, thick frame with good overall muscle development, but could stand to lose some body fat … Has thick arms, broad chest and shoulders, softness around the midsection, good bubble and outstanding leg thickness … Easily retains plays … Strong at the point of attack and shows good feet working near the line … Does a good job of sealing off and turning his man when working the corner … Hard to bring down thanks to his wide base, and while he may not move as well in the open, he has enough speed to get to the corner to neutralize the edge rusher … Shows good balance and will punch with authority … Plays with some nastiness and will look to finish blocks … Displays good knee bend and shows awareness to help inside on stunts or twists … Generates good pop on contact with his strong hands … Has the ability to pull and keep his feet on the move, which could see him shift to guard … Despite his size, he shows good acceleration getting to the second level and adjusting to the linebacker's movement while keeping his feet … Has a very strong anchor with good kick-slide agility and the foot quickness to mirror in pass protection … Has the quickness to recover when beaten … Can explode into his blocks and knows how to use his size and strength to move defenders out … Very competitive and will play hurt.

Negatives: Has had a running battle controlling his weight, which causes him to get "dead legs" when having to move into the second level late in games … Solid, durable prospect, but is not the type that will excel in one area … Needs to improve his lower-body strength to be capable of working effectively on the move … Can generate a very strong hand punch, but tends to get a little too wide with his hands, which lets defenders get into his chest to rock him back … His lack of foot speed could see him shift to right tackle at the pro level, but his solid pulling ability also makes him a guard candidate … Will struggle at times against a good edge rush, but does flash some quickness to run his feet and wash the defender by the quarterback … Has the tools to be a solid blocker, but he needs to improve his foot quickness … When run blocking, he fails to show his power sometimes, getting overextended as he lunges to make the play … Waist bender with good tenacity as a pass protector, but when he exposes his chest, he can be neutralized and thrown to the side … Slow out of his stance at times and this causes him to fail to gain initial advantage.

AGILITY
5.25 in the 40-yard dash … 400-pound bench press … 560-pound squat … 21 percent body fat … 34¾-inch arm length … 10-inch hands

Haynes and our corners are very good additions along with Petteti

Now we need to go get Jacobs off of the Steelers PS
And Danny Clark, and C.Vaughn or Biesel

MJS2k7 09-03-2006 09:17 PM

clark and the DL that the tiexans released...

D24pick 09-03-2006 09:20 PM

Who, R.Smith...Yeah, that'll be good

I say release Whitehead at DT, put Haynes at DT, and Smith at DE or the other way around

And a corner, maybe

Position: WR
Class: Sr
School: East Carolina
Conference: C-USA
Ht., Wt.: 6'0, 208
40 Time: 4.56
Grade: 3.17

BIO: Second-team all-conference selection as a senior after catching 87/897/2. Junior totals were 30/395/0, after 13/204/0 the prior season when he spent time at H-back. Used to return punts throughout college.

POSITIVES: Durable receiver prospect with terrific size-speed numbers. Uses the sidelines well, settles into the open spot on the field then extends his hands to catch the pass away from his frame. Quickly releases off the line, not afraid to go over the middle and makes the difficult reception in traffic. Works hard, competitive and leads by example on the football field. Quick-footed running after the catch and displays a burst as well as open-field speed if given the slightest bit of room to run.

NEGATIVES: Does not play to his timed speed or consistently stretch the defense as one would think. Has a sturdy frame yet tends to hear footsteps or gathers into receptions if he's going to get hit. Loses out in battles more times than he should.

ANALYSIS: Though not meeting expectations placed upon him, Copper has shown a steady line of progress in college. Displayed solid signs during his senior campaign then went on to have a good week of practice and impress scouts at the Blue-Gray game. Could fit into the late rounds and end up being a team's fifth receiver.

I guess it would be Fife... Or was he cut already?

LKelley67 09-03-2006 11:11 PM

going with only 2 QBs is a going trend this year. New Orleans makes the 10th team with only 2 if I count right. Reasoning is that if you get to needing QB #3 your team is SOL anyway. Most find a youngster to float on the practice squad which Bouman couldn't.

D24pick 09-03-2006 11:13 PM

Fife! No way! Hes been gone already

We ar probaly in the wavier wire

Looks like we got Cooper b/c of ST and he knows the system

xan 09-03-2006 11:42 PM

Deloach could be a nice pickup. He started 13 games for the Giants last season and was really solid. He's tall and somewhat fast, at least fast enough to stay with most wr's and big enough to win jump balls He is a young corner, though, and needs to learn better technique and to read situational routes. He had a dismal training camp considering he was considered to be a lock at starting DB, though it was a tough call to cut him, evidently. Coughlin can be a real erectile tissue, especially when you've made a mistake-one guy got cut in the last round simply for having one fumble LAST year. Curtis might like the opportunity with the Saints. He'll definitely have the goods over Craft, so he'll be there for a nickel package at the very least.

xan 09-03-2006 11:47 PM

So glad Branch cleared waivers. He's going to be a tremendous rb if he gets the slightest chance.

Good f---ing bye Bouman. Somehow the world seems a bit more sane.

Is it my imagination, or did we only sign ONE o-lineman??? And put Mayberry on IR for the SEASON?? Brees is going to get hurt on the third real snap from scrimmage!!!

CURTIS DELOATCH
Position: S
Class:
School: Ncat
Conference: -
Ht., Wt.: 6'2½, 214
40 Time: 4.52

BIO: Totaled 21/4/8 as a senior, spending most of his time at cornerback. Struggled through an injury-plagued junior campaign and posted only 14/1/6 on the corner. All-American return specialist as a sophomore when he averaged 26.5-yards on 20 punt returns, bringing five back into the end zone for scores.

POSITIVES: Nice-sized athlete who never capitalized on a big sophomore season. Out muscles opponents defending the throw and easily brings ball carriers down on initial contact. Displays good range defending the throw and fluid turning his hips. Improved his reads as a senior and did not have as many mental breakdowns.

NEGATIVES: Lacks explosion, quickness and speed for cornerback. Prefers to side-shuffle rather than backpedal. Considered an underachiever, never took his game to the next level.

ANALYSIS: An imposing specimen, DeLoatch impacts the game with bone crushing hits or long punt returns yet seems content getting by with natural abilities. Must immediately turn up the intensity to have a shot in the NFL.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

DeJuan Groce
Position: Cornerback
College: Nebraska
Height: 5-10
Weight: 192
Hometown: Garfield Heights, Ohio

Career Notes | Agility | High School | Personal | Stats

ANALYSIS
Positives: Has above-average straight-line speed … Shows a burst and acceleration to catch up with receivers on deep routes … Very aware of his assignments working in the zone, understanding route concepts well … Shows the hand/eye coordination to stick his hand in to break up the pass … Has natural hands for the interception and also to field punts … Can break down, wrap up and secure as a tackler, showing the willingness to throw his body around in run support … Uses his leaping ability to serve as a gunner on the punt-coverage unit … Shows the ability to latch and trail the receiver through routes … Sees combo routes develop, throwing the shoulder to make the tackle or knock the receiver off stride.
Negatives: Does not look smooth in his backpedal, keeping too wide of a wide base, making him appear choppy in transition … Often ends up stumbling and struggling when trying to plant and drive … Late reading the quarterback and does not have the recovery speed to catch up when beaten … Does not have the change-of-direction agility to stay with the receiver after the opponent makes his cuts … Lacks explosive leaping ability and will generally get out-muscled going up for the ball … Allows the catch too often, rarely making a play on the ball … Seems very reluctant to come up and support against the run, allowing himself to get blocked out too often … Not a big striker or hitter … When he tries to jam the receiver, he falls off his hits and struggles to recover … Does not show proper hip turn in his transition … Bites on double moves and gets turned around by play action.
