Haven't heard anything. I'll check it out

LKelley67 09-04-2006 09:20 PM

I look for Clark to be signed next Monday. I read somewhere that Payton has had communication with him. They easily can have a wink and nod agreement until then.

Here's a basic explanation why from PFT-

Per Article XXIII of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, players with at least four credited seasons are entitled to "Termination Pay" if cut before the end of the season. For a so-called "vested veteran" on the 53-man roster at the start of the season, the team is responsible for the entire balance of the base salary for the season in which the player is terminated.

But even if a vested veteran is signed after the start of the season but before the eighth regular season game, the player is entitled to 25 percent of the base salary as termination pay. After the eighth game, the player is entitled to one week's pay only, up to a maximum of $20,000.
---------------
A lot of financial difference for a guy that is unknown whether he will make impact enough to keep around all year. I think Clark is a good snag by he couldn't make it on the Raiders LOL. Kinda like how desperate the Titans are in taking a Saints LB.

RE: clark

wwl but not listed yet on the wires. lets hope so. 100+ gut and we keep all the picks. Yet looking up data on him I found this.

Danny Clark
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Danny Clark (born May 9, 1977 in Blue Island, Illinois) is an American football player and a middle linebacker with the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League. He was released prior to the 2006 season.

Clark was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft, with the 245th overall selection. In four seasons with the Jaguars, Clark played in 61 games, starting 27, and saw action both at linebacker and on special teams. Clark was the second leading tackler on the Jaguars for the 2002 NFL season, during which he started all 16 games.

In 2004, Clark became a full-time starter at linebacker with the Raiders, having joined the team as a free agent during the prior offseason. Clark started all 16 regular season games in 2004, and led the Raiders in tackles with 129. In 2005, Clark finished second on the Raiders in tackles with 113.

Clark attended the University of Illinois, where he played for the Fighting Illini football team. Clark was named honorable mention All-Big Ten three times as a linebacker, and finished his college career with the sixth most tackles at Illinois, finishing just ahead of Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus. Clark graduated Illinois with a bachelor's degree in communications.

Clark played quarterback and linebacker at Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills, Illinois.

On Monday September 4, 2006 the New Orleans Saints signed Clark as a free agent. Clark is an instant upgrade to the Saints linebacking corps. New Orleans Saints Official Website

here is the surprise around the corner guys. 100+ tackles MLB only 29 and we keep our draft picks,
1,2,3,3,4,4,5,6 and one to be named later. season is looking up.

LKelley67 09-04-2006 09:31 PM

all the more kewl then that they feel he can be committed to for the season.

Who gets cut???

LKelley67 09-04-2006 09:36 PM

do not care really plenty of candidates for this guy. Do not rule out a trade (DE) for a pick.
go to the raiders sites and they are not happy. this was a stunt to save money by the raiders. they are mad. the all love this guy.
now looking at the new additions to the D I see a 34D is possible. Look for it in 2007 or 2008 at the latest.

nedly 09-04-2006 10:02 PM

Yes

wwl reported he was signed. Most all of the
raiders fans are pi ed as all he l about it also.Looks like we just upgraded our defense. Now if we can still manage to get Edwards! That would be cool. I read about Clark being cut by Raiders first and was hoping Saint's would jump all over the opportunity to sign him after reading about him.

D24pick 09-04-2006 10:18 PM

RE: Yes

Screw Edwards! If we just got a younger just as good player, what do we need em 4???

ANY LINK??

RE: Yes

You have to admit, Coach P is committed to making the defense better. Good job here.

Where are the freakin cornerbacks?

D24pick 09-04-2006 11:30 PM

RE: Yes

Deloatch, 6'2", speedy and smart...Will come in handy vs players like Clayton, Keyshawn, and Lelie
Groce, 5'10", physical player with good ball play
MM
Craft
and Fred

LKelley67 09-05-2006 07:19 AM

still no "official" report on this. TP reports this morning they were looking into him. A good thing is that I have checked several raider boards and they all say it is a bone headed move to let him go. He was quite a fan fave, lotsa sentiments like this expressed-

"This is from a true Raider fan the Nation is morning the loss of DC from the Nation. Just be aware that YOU were the favorite player of a lot of people in the Nation MINE included. The fans had nothing to do with Arts decision. You will always be special to the Raider Nation and we will miss you immensely. We will continue to root for you where ever you end up (except when you play da Raiders). Just know you are loved by the Nation and we were shocked maybe more than you."

--from a msg board at his own website:
http://www.dannyclark55.com/home.htm

another nice read on him-
http://www.raiders.com/newsroom/news...l.jsp?id=23977

"I'm lucky enough to get voted team captain by my peers," said Clark, the 6'2", 245-pound University of Illinois graduate. "Anytime you receive an honor like that, you have to live up to it." Clark, who views his position as more than tallying high defensive statistics, welcomes the responsibility of leading the defense.

None of these give me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside.....especially Craft and Thomas. Thomas is no more than a serviceable nickleback. MM is a legitimate #2 corner. The jury is out on Deloatch and Groce on what they can do. Craft should just play back. I mean wayyyyyyyyy back. I mean wayyyyyyyyy back for an areana team. Our corners butter have plenty of butter with 'em, cuz they're gonna get toasted.

LKelley67 09-05-2006 11:44 AM

Bellamy cut with his acquisition. Thanks for the years and good luck Jay.

TheDeuce 09-05-2006 12:14 PM

I'm sad to see Jay Bellamy go. He always seemed to play 100%. I wish him well.

About Danny Clark, seems to be a good pickup. 113 tackles last season for the Raiders. I still don't know if just adding a lot of mediocre LBs is a good thing, but at least Payton is doing what he can with the crappy defense he's been handed.

neugey 09-05-2006 12:28 PM

Sounds like this guy could help us hold down the MLB spot for a few years. Lots of experience, but lots of mileage too. But seems to have steered clear of injury, which is good. Between Clark, Simoneau and Fincher I think we're decent at MLB now. We could still use more speed/athleticism/talent at OLB. Too bad Polley is on IR, if he was healthy I think we could field a respectable linebacker group.

Bobaganoosh 09-05-2006 12:31 PM

I like the moves the Saints have made through the waiver wire...but none of these guys are studs. They will improve our depth, especially at OT and CB...but only Petitti has a chance to start. Deloatch was a whipping boy for the Giants last year, he was abused but he does have some tools. Groce is a smaller corner who cannot cover the bigger guys. Haynes doesnt have top end speed to get around the corner, but he will be in our rotation. I think if Copper catches on and grasps our offense, Lance Moore will lose his job. Danny Clark could in time be our middle LB on first and second down and have Simoneau come in on 3rd down and that wouldnt be too bad. But at least Payton didnt just sit on what he had, he made some moves that he believes will make this team better and i like that about him.

I cannot echo this enough after the Haz years became a nightmarish rerun playing over and over.

LKelley67 09-05-2006 01:58 PM

Just thiking about Hammerhead in da crew...

We might be on the verge of approaching an average-ordinary-journeyman LB group. It's been a loooong time coming.

BlackandBlue 09-05-2006 02:01 PM

pretty sad when you aspire to be average with a set group of players.

LKelley67 09-05-2006 02:08 PM

I don't think it is anyone's aspiration but after being group #32 out of 32 for a few years it is nice to sense some progress upwards.

hagan714 09-05-2006 03:48 PM

well i am inspired because he is the equal to donnie edwards and we did not have to give up a pick. with the signings on the line and LB i am going to open a can worms here, i think it is a tooling for a 34. scott i know was listed a failure in the 34 but move him inside from the ends and team him with Danny to patrol the middle. This might work. The DT we have signed are hybred DT/DE types. hmmm

buzwa 09-05-2006 04:00 PM

I am pretty excited about the Clark signing. The Raiders fans all seem to be upset by the loss.

While I really like the Clark signing, he is not Edwards' equal IMO. However, with the age difference, he is close enough to Edwards. Edwards is just light years ahead of him in pass coverage.

WVSaint 09-05-2006 05:31 PM

our defense has improved and we didnt give up anything for it. all i'm asking for at the moment is an improvement. i don't expect this team (offense or defense) to turn it all around in one year, but right now i think we're better than we were a few weeks ago. it's a work in progress and so far i like what payton is doing.

TheDeuce 09-05-2006 07:04 PM

I think Clark is a guy who's going to offer this team a lot of toughness. He's led the Raiders for two seasons now in tackles with 230 something. He seems like a real hard nosed player who loves mixing it up, something none of our backers really like to do.

Maybe, but he is one DUI or failed test away from a year long suspension. He has had multiple DUIs (not sure the French Quarter would be good for him. ).
