Much MUCH more impressed with this win

For several reason:

1) We struggled TERRIBLY early, and overcame it. No one got down, almost no one stopped playing(i'll get to that later). We took a wounded team's best shot early, and we weathered the storm, and cameout ahead. For good measure, after the game was over I went and beat GB 45-23 on MAdden 360. Reggie had 193 yards on 12 youched with two TDs.

2) We won a shootout. It was fun to see, especially since we came out on top.

3) How about that defense? They threw all over us, but that's cause they got down, and couldn't run. Much more impressed with this win than the one over the Browns,

Some things I didn't like:

1) Charles Grant's jogging. When there was the bad snap to Favre, he is feaking jogging towards Favre instead of trying to go all out for the ball. HE could not have known there was a flag for offsides. Also, when Favre rolled out, Charles was kinda lolly gagging chasing him down. HE had a couple of plays wher ehe collapsed the pocket, but the jogging HAS to go.

2) McKenzie and Craft are bad. Craft we knew. But McKenzie is seeming worse every game.

3) Roman Harper. HE picked McKenzie on that first toughdown and let Jennings get open. And that unsportsmanlike on Driver. IF not for Franks getting a penalty as well, they may have scored a TD. I'd like to see more of the smarts they were playing up form him.

But damn, 2-0. PAnthers and Bucs 0-2. Smile Saints fans smile. We have a real test next week.

I'm not going to say he's good, but I saw Craft in position for a few key plays. Overall, McKenzie was out of position for every single play, even got faked out by the popcorn vendor. He looked very not good today.

I won't fault Harper on that one because it seemed like he didn't know the whistle was blown.

Craft I won't support. There should've been a massive flag on Craft today, but for once, we got away with one.

McKenzie... ouch. Yes. He does NOT look good. He's getting faked too much, buying improper reads.

But if it came down to it, who remains on the team - McKenzie in starter, Craft in nickel....

I'll take McKenzie.

I agree with Whodi's assessment and others, our corners suck.

Thank you and I have proved this message.

...on Harper's unsportsmanlike, that was a bogus call. Driver was never touched after he caught the ball.

Loved it. Progress in the character department all the way. Great resciliency and an all around good team effort. We're not heading for a superbowl just yet but for week 2, this team is truley gelling.

Mckenzie was BRUTAL, Let's hope he steps up soon. Great play calling but I'm with some others that we need to get Horn the ball more!

P.S Colston is good, but That Stallworth guy is still not bad!

I think Mckenzie is gonna cost us if he doesn't get his head in the came. If you look at it, our defense was playing excellent. But we got killed by their primary reciever. And the one corner who's job is to blanket the best reciever on the feild looked like a rookie. I didn't get to see last weeks game, but I really saw what my brother has been saying about Mckenzie. But think about it. Other than the fact that it had to be a shootout, we didn't really give them crap for running. That's what I'm impressed with the most. But our pass rush was as good as I liked it. I remember one play were we showed our corner blitz too early and Farve reconized and exploited it. But on the upside: Last year we would have lost this game (and we did) with that early deficiet. But a sign of a good team is the ability to overcome that. We didn't have a team last year (for a while really). Now we do. However this season goes, they've shown to me they don't give up. And I'll be proud of them no matter what their record is.

MM needs to step up

Craft, uhh??? he's Craft???

F.Thomas and the other secondary players are mostly on the right tune, if we can get Deloatch more practice and get Thomas to stay consistent, we'll look way better....Deloatch can be a good key vs big physical recivers like Clayton, Lelie, and Keyshawn

groce would be a better option than deloatch, right now. not saying i'm validating either one, but offenses tee'd off on deloatch when he was starting for the giants...real, real bad. he needs time to work with the system, and more importantly, build back his confidence.

Exactly! We're 2-0 and I can guarantee not many people and the so-called "experts" thought we'd get out of the gates like this. The first real test, as Whodi mentioned, will be against the Falcons next Monday night. The Falcons will come in with their backs against the wall. We all just THOUGHT Katrina did a number on the Dome roof. Wait until MNF, a national stage, when all those crazed Saints fans start cheering our beloved once again in the Dome. It is very likely to bring tears to my eyes. If the run defense can play anywhere like they have been the first two weeks, then it is going to give Dunn and Vick pure hell. Vick will HAVE to try and beat us with the pass, and I'm not sure if he can do it. If the Saints don't lose their drive and the heart they've displayed thus far, then it's going to be an amazing game. I can't wait for it to get here.

I think that Payton's waiting until next year to fix the corners. Unless there's a gem lying unnoticed in FA, we're stuck with the Juke Out Brothers until March 1, 2007.

In the meantime, I'm waiting to see how our novice safeties whom Payton focused the entire preseason development attention on progress. So far, not so good. I know we won, but luck was on our side for several plays when these two were out of position.

I wonder if Ron Mexico will be able to read them like Farve and Frye?

iceshack149 09-18-2006 12:11 AM

The Saints run defense has been great. Yeah the corners are garden variety but obviously passing is not Mike Vicks strength. I'm excited. Trying to keep my expectations low.

No one plays perfect games. They are going to get even better, and they are still 2-0. I just hope fans enjoy the wins.
