7.5 Point Dog

We opened at Carolina giving 8 points, but have "improved" to getting 7.5 points with the O/U at 42. Now, I'm NOT a person schooled in sports odds, but are we really going to lose to Carolina 25-17?

RE: 7.5 Point Dog

Thank you thank you thank you Vegas.

This team already had a chip on their shoulder about being disrespected. Should give them a little something to chew on and for Payton to use.

It's a good thing.

But a 3-0 team being a 7.5 dog to a 1-2 team that has only beaten a 0-3 team. That is insulting.

RE: 7.5 Point Dog

And we expect to get "respect" after beating Carolina?

Honestly I see no reason why we can't win this game. It's a matter of if Payton can get these guys geared up with the short week.

When/if we win, there will be another reason from critics why we're still "3 years behind Atlanta" and why we still suck.

RE: 7.5 Point Dog

at kick off the score in Vegas will read

saints -7.5
panthers 0

so to cover we have to win by 8 points. just more than a touchdown favorite. That means the saints should win by 7. the .5 is for the house.

No insult taken. smith is back and we are on the road. at home yes, but on the road no.

I'll take those odds! Hell......I made $1500 on the Atlanta game! :D

RE: 7.5 Point Dog

I made 500 but lost 200 for each of my cash fantasy leagues i play in. Got stuck with a couple of dirty birds there dunn and crumpler. so a 100 dollar profit and win while lossing is the best feeling.

Tobias-Reiper 09-27-2006 04:46 PM

I need to see my bookie :) Too many points expecting a "let down".

The Saints can win this one. Yes they have Smith back, but Jake needs time to throw it to him, and that offensive line is having issues, and compared to Vick, Jake is pretty much a parking meter.

The only match-up problem I see is Pappers/Kemoeatu vs. Evans/Stinch. We'll probably won't see Deuce and Reggie on the backfield at the same time in favor of Kearney staying in for extra protection, unless Reggie lines straight up at WR. At LB, they don't have Morgan who's hurt again (who'd have thunk it ) , Witherspoon is with the Rams now, and Thomas Davis while solid, not a force at the position, so their LB's aren't that great.

Other than that, I fully expect the defense to stop the run (Foster/Williams) and make Jake go to the air and try to beat the Saints that way. I see no less than 4 sacks, and a 23-14 victory for the Saints.

And by a last second field goal after blowing a 17 point lead. Jake looked like poo. If we can cover Smith at all they don't have a chance, cause Jakie-poo and Meshawn won't beat us.

It's because it doesn't matter how many games the Pathers lose, they're still going to the Superbowl. They can lose all 16, they're still going to be a Superbowl team.

Oldies... I've heard that. All the pre-season talk was about how the Panthers we going from the NFC. They MUST know something us lowly commoners don't. Like a new playoff system played in the off season.

wheelman 09-27-2006 06:03 PM

RE: Re: RE: 7.5 Point Dog

The Panthers are a Super Bowl contender if healthy. These injury problems won't last all season. Don't get too cocky.

wheel, just having fun. I think it'll be a close physical game. Then again I thought that of Atlanta and we did much better than expected.

smyce 09-27-2006 06:40 PM

RE: Re: RE: 7.5 Point Dog

This is really no sign of disrespect or surprising at all. The Panthers are a perrenial playoff team off to a rough start while playing two tough games without their best player.

The Saints are a 3-0 team who have beaten two inferior teams and a huge win against a playoff caliber team with the energy of the Superdome.

I wont be surprised if the Saints win this game, but 7.5 point favorite for the Panthers, a team picked by many to represent the NFC in the Superbowl and who we all know are better than their 1-2 record shows, is not exactly shocking.

Not sure if i used the quote thing right but that statement is wrong. Right now we are 7.5 point underdogs, meaning, the Panthers have to beat us by more than a touchdown for the spread. .We ARE the underdogs. SO basically, if we lose only by 3, technically we win with the +7.5.

hagan714 09-27-2006 08:08 PM

i just called my bookie. shhh he told me it was the other way around. funny 3-0 vs. 1-2 and we are still underdogs. what do they think? god can travel to carolina.

saintsfan1313 09-27-2006 08:29 PM

thats what i said, there are some good parlays out there this week for you gambling fools.....

D24pick 09-27-2006 08:32 PM

Let em keep underdogging us, we can use that to get us play mad
When we blow them out they'll change it quick, somewhat they love to disrespect us and play us like fools

jdiggy 09-27-2006 09:41 PM

Early on in my youth i may have bet on the Saints once or twice. But they quickly showed me the error of my ways as I always bet that they would win straight up.

So, after losing a "few" times I decided not to bet on the Saints anymore. What happened? They won.

The following week, I'd drink the Kool-Aid, get swept up in the frenzy of a one game winning streak, and wager on them again.

The result, I'd lose.

So, for those of you who are courageous enough, I applaud you.

But, I feel like I'm jinxing the Saints (or maybe myself) for even thinking about putting my credits on them. Hell, you guys having this kind of confidence in them is making me nervous!

Best of luck. Go Saints!

There is some truth to this. I usually try to avoid betting on the Saints. Same with my fantasy league. In the Yahoo league Colston is listed as a WR/TE so he's a keeper. Other than him I have to avoid using Saints players because I tend not to think as rationally when I have an emotional attachement to a player that's on my team.

saintsrule 09-28-2006 01:14 AM

I was surprised of that, when I saw it.

LKelley67 09-28-2006 10:18 AM

who woulda thunk it. superbowl odds spiraling down for the saints too.

I'm not even sure it's a matter of getting geared up. The Saints have quickly learned how to play smart tactical football. The coaches seem to be game planning the hell out of the opposition. And the offense is both talented enough and getting enough good plays called to be very effective. Brees is generally making excellent decisions and spreading the ball to playmakers all over the field. I have a feeling that spreading out the Panthers and running the ball right at them is going to be real successful in this game.

Absolutely. I think that nothing short of going 3-1 against both the NFC East and the NFC North is going to gain any measure of respect. We're going to have to beat the Cincys and Eagles of the NFL to garner that respect.

I agree with this^^^

But, as long as we continue to win(about 3 to 4 games more) they'll count those as emotional up-pushes
But until we lose or close battle with teams like the Eagles, they're on our backs about how they overrated us, but let a team that is 4-7, panthers, and if they win it's all...They won b/c their "SuperBowl talented" team, in all the while we've swept them or beat them already
