Star Power

I'm a little put off by the amount of attention to Reggies TD sunday. Granted, it was the game winning score, but this kid has done nothing but played his heart out each game. Why I'm saying this is some have ignored what he was doing before and just pointing out that he didn't score yet. But he was active in keeping drives alive, encouraging his other team-mates, and breaking up arguements on the field that could have cost us penalties if they would have gone further. This kid is a team player. I never thought we'd get this much out of him. If I were ot Tampa Bay, I would have never have punted it to us like they did. It was just too perfect. Also, big props to our linebackers. I liked seeing Mr. Clark cracking people out there. My only complaint is I would have like to see them go down the field a little bit more. But a win is a win.

They made a big point to mention his 11 catches in addition to the punt return on ESPN tonight.

i just hate that Deuce had 2 beautiful runs yesterday that were simply overlooked on account of Reggie's 1st touchdown.

Not saying it shouldn't be mentioned as a PHENOMENAL game winner, but it wasn't the only play of the game. Deuce looks like he's going to get his 1,300 yards he was aiming for before the season. That's just an awesome recovery.

Yes indeed. Watching Duece run, it's amazing how much patience he has. It does even look like he's running that fast. But he's just waiting for his blocks to develop. That's a veteran move. I think Reggie has the tendency to out-run his blocks. He'll learn. Yes Reggies punt return did win us the game, but without Duece racking up all those yards in the first quarter, and without Brees playing smart....etc Reggies punt return would be too little too late. Overall message: Great team effort.

Deuce got his big media moment after RW was traded.
The big story then was that the Saints drafted a RB in the 1st rd (Deuce) when they had a proven RB (RW).
The next big story was that Deuce made the Saints not regret trading RW.

Reggie is the flavor of the month. BTW he won the Heisman a year ago so they have to hype him.
The media "Heads" have been talking him up for 3+ years now. Of course they have been on his nuts. They hate being wrong.
Even more. They love saying:"I Told You So!".
No one is overlooking or disrespecting Deuce.
Reggie is just hot to talk about right now.
Oh, By the way.
We're playing as a team.
We're 4-1.
Who Dat?

Brann 10-10-2006 12:31 AM

Deuce and Reggie both got lots of pub tonight on ESPN. Face it, without Reggie, the Saints wouldn't be getting nearly as much press as they've gotten thus far, even if they had a 4-1 record.

BTW, the Saints are #5 in the Totally-Made-Up NFL BCS on FoxSports: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6045054

I think this is the first time I have ever referenced him but...
:puke: Michael Irvin did list BOTH Reggie and Deuce as two of the top 5 playmakers of the week. Someone else pointed out also that Steve Young listed Drew Brees as the #5 top QB this year. Not bad. Nice seeing NOLA boys getting more 'n more recognition.

All I can say is that I've never been more confident that our team won't panic or kill ourselves. (I might eat it later, but oh well). I'm a little nervous about this Eagles game mainly because of McNabb. I know we can do a shoot out, but with Harper out and our habit of giving up the deep ball, I'm gonna be biting my nails the whole game. But my question is this: How do you prepare for a guy on his first NFL start? I can belly-hoo about how the Saints gave up so much, but I will to this instead. I tip my hat to you Rookie Quarterback with the wierd name. You impressed me. I'm glad we only have to play you twice a year.

LongTimeFan 10-10-2006 02:16 PM

I think I love watching Deuce run the most, he's just fun to watch, as for Bush I wouldn't trade him away for nobody right now, this guy is the real deal and one day soon will be labeled as a special player, you can bank on it..
While a few of us were chatting here on the site Sunday during the game I was saying give the ball to Deuce more which they didn't, I mean Deuce was running wild the first half but the second half they didn't have him in to many plays.

biloxi-indian 10-10-2006 02:19 PM

As many have commented here before...Duece and Reggie compliement one another. If you put Reggie in the slot, defenses have to pay attention which gives Duece less than 8 man fronts and openings to RUN. Likewise, if they concentrate on Duece running, then Reggie, COLSTON, or Horn will burn them on the pass.

I for one would like to see more TE action. While Brees was in SD, Gates was a very good target. We saw glimpes of it this past weekend against TB. I would also like to see more FB action to offset Duece and Reggie...Karney can carry the load or pass in the flat.

Payton is using his resources to the MAX (IMHO). Let's hope it continues.

I have heard a lot of complaints about us not going deep against Tampa...but i was at the game and i noticed a few times that Brees looked deep and then checked down when it wasnt there. Then i hear all of you saying that Brees is making great decisions and playing like the smart qb he is. Well, i think if you look at the situation for what it is, you will see that Brees had the option to go deep, and didnt like what he saw so he did the smart thing and checked down.

"Did you see that sack Mario Williams got last week?" Texans head coach Gary Kubiak told fans in Houston. "What a great hit. I've said it before and I'll say it again: game-breaking running backs with the ability to line up at wide receiver, return punts and keep defenses on their heels are a dime a dozen. We're so happy we passed on that guy."

Bush wasn't the only Saint rusher to have a big day. Deuce McAllister ran for 123 yards and a touchdown, giving Jerome Bettis the opportunity to refer to the running back combo as "Thunder and Lightning" then pause for laughter as if he thought that was astoundingly clever, and hadn't in fact been used to describe at least two running back tandems every year for the last decade and a half, including Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis last season.

Hey as long as Brees isn't throwing INT's....its all good. He looks a little like Montana. Short passes but good amounts of YAC.

As far as Bush and the attention. We all know the media will do what it can to make a story. I mean really, I could swear that last week, and I mean all week, I had T.O. for breakfast, lunch, dinner, he was in the urinal at work, my toilet at home, for what?? Going back to Philly? A medicine mix-up? Nobody should have been fooled into thinking that Bush was not being as productive as the other picks. (They started on with the crap that Mario Williams got his first sack before Bush got his first TD.) I guess the best thing about it is that Deuce has enough experiece and know-how to not let these things bother him.

I understand the complaint about the Reggie play. But, I have heard Deuce getting some love nationally for his attitude AND his play. People are noticing the class he displays along with his ability.

Look at it this way, every time a LB pauses to look at reggie on a fake reverse, Deuce gains three more yards and has a chance to pop 'em in the mouth for even more. Deuce is secure enough (and rich enough) to lay back and just keep making plays. I think it is a fantastic situation.

Having said all that......Deuce is a hell of a man and should be a source of pride for all of us. :airguitar:

What you heard from me Bob was in the Panthers game, I said how we never looked deep and it allowed the Panthers to close in around us and really squeeze off our running game, and that more and more teams would do it. I also came back after the Tampa game and during and made mention of how even though Drew didn't THROW it deep, he very well did look, especially on the first series, and that was enough to have Tampa's defense respect that we wwere willing to go deep. I also noticed those 5-7 yard outs turned into 9-11 yard outs. But I most certainly did notice that we at least looked deep, and had receivers run deep routes, instead of keeping everything in a nice little box for the D. I hope we keep it up. Good eye man.

Sorry, but we need tight ends that can catch the ball before we can do that consistently. :?
