Well I guess the beerman comes back after the bye

He was on the pup list but after the bye it will be past 6 weeks i don't see us waving him Reggie can use the help to take the pressure off him. Imagine the beerman and reggie in the same backfeild this will be great. great feild position just about everytime.

saintswhodi 10-10-2006 07:24 PM

Except the beerman blows. He'll just skitter out of bounds. No thanks.

lynwood 10-10-2006 07:30 PM

Awwww c'mon Whodi. The guy is probably making minimum salary and he's worth taking a look at on the field. Plus we may need another receiver since Devery is on the sidelines.

LongTimeFan 10-10-2006 07:32 PM

Before I'd cut him I would like to see how he does coming back after the injury and rehab, who knows for sure if he's really done, just think of the possibilities with him if he's good to go...

spkb25 10-10-2006 07:42 PM

well i am not to impressed with stecker back there

We saw him on the field. Worthless outside of his first year. And isn't he about 37 or something? Pass.

ccredsox03 10-10-2006 11:03 PM

give him a chance like longtimefan said. and if he blows cut him.

Bobaganoosh 10-10-2006 11:18 PM

The beerman has nothing to offer. He is well past his prime...he is in his mid 30's which is ancient...and he hasnt done anything special in the last 3 years. He is no better than Lance Moore or Aaron Stecker...and do not even mention him as a receiver...he will never see the field on offense. Thank him for everything he has done and then hand him his pink slip.

AllSaints 10-11-2006 06:39 AM

This is where ya are wrong we need something on KR moore and stecker just arent getting it done.... lewis still has some speed to him just wish he would stop going out of bounds....

biloxi-indian 10-11-2006 06:48 AM

Here is what Payton had to say about the subject!

"I don't think the issue on kickoff returns is the returners as it is the guys blocking for the returners," Payton said. "I like Stecker back there, I like Terrance Copper back there. So (Bush) probably is not an option back there on kickoff return. I think we need to a better job of landmarks, setting a wall for the wedge and getting hats on hats."

I think I'd rather see Reggie back on kickoffs than punts. There's a better chance to break a long KO return than a punt return.

saintfan 10-11-2006 08:39 AM

The only problem with bringing him back is who goes to make room for him on the roster?

saintswhodi 10-11-2006 08:40 AM

Let the Beerman keep driving his truck. I agree with Payton, our blocking has not been that great on returns. Enough of this sentimental stuff, the Beerman was staright junk the last 3 years. He ain't getting any better, this isn't Madden where a guy can go to the pro bowl at 40. I hope that dude never puts on a Saints uni again. Waste of a roster spot.

BoudinSandwich 10-11-2006 09:03 AM

You know, our Special Teams blocking hasn't been up to par for the past 3-years, Whodi. Maybe he is falling out of his prime, but our team couldn't block either.

There were times where they did block and the Beerman just skittered out of bounds instead of trying to make ANYONE miss. Like he was scared to take a hit, playing football. Uh uh. To be on special teams you have to be fearless, after his firstyear, Beerman wasn't.

BoudinSandwich 10-11-2006 09:19 AM

I'll concede that point to you. Apparently, that's why Gleason is the Special Teams demon that he is.

And resident sack puncher. lol

mikesaintfan 10-11-2006 01:01 PM

we gotta give him a chance and if he sucks then we have the fastest beervendor in the world to work the dome!!!

saintswhodi 10-11-2006 01:04 PM

Wemost definitely do nto have to give him a chance. Has any other team in the league even looked at him? No? Then neither should we.

mikesaintfan 10-11-2006 01:10 PM

relax
sheesh

Bobaganoosh 10-11-2006 01:22 PM

I think bringing him back would signal the end for either Moore or Copper. Both of those guys are way younger, cheaper, and have a higher ceiling than Lewis does at this point in his career. I just dont see where he fits in and i appreciate all he did but his time has come to move on.

lynwood 10-11-2006 01:49 PM

Well my question would be why did Payton keep him in the first place then? He must have seen something. I still say take a look at what he can do. If we trust that Payton will make the right decision then what's the harm?

saintswhodi 10-11-2006 01:54 PM

He has made the right decision. Michael Lewis isn't playing. Let's trust that. I agree.

saintsplaya 10-11-2006 02:07 PM

i think lewis will play this year. hes hasnt played even a preseason game and hes still on this team, they must have something in mind for him. hes better than stecker, moore, and copper. plus lets not forget he can tackle on special teams which we can use help on. i think he will see the field as a WR b/c of his speed. maybe a reverse or fake reverse here and there and some deep routes or slants. i think he can be more dangerous than yall think. he can catch the ball still. jamal jones never plays he can take his or moores spot. stecker and copper are crap on kick returns lewis will be an upgrade and maybe bush and lewis on punt return or just lewis b/c other than that one touchdown which was set up well bush hasnt done anything but lost yards and run east and west.

Bobaganoosh 10-11-2006 02:36 PM

I believe he was kept around because Payton had to keep 3 young guys and he wasnt sure if they would be able to deliver. Payton wanted to see what he had. I think he keeps the roster as is and lets Lewis go about his business.

saintsplaya 10-11-2006 03:55 PM

where have the 3 young guys delivered????

FrenzyFan 10-13-2006 01:32 PM

Lewis hasn't been very good for the last few years as a return man. He's never been great on offense. Nevertheless, I consider bringing him back for kick coverage. Our kick coverage has blown chunks in every game this year - and when Lewis was playing it seemed he was causing problems for enemy returners all the time.

That's a thin reason, I'll admit.

Bobaganoosh 10-13-2006 09:09 PM

Lance Moore has been steady returning punts with Bush. Copper is playing more WR with Devery hurt and Lewis is not a receiver in any way. Jones and Copper have both done very well in covering kicks, which is what lewis would be doing if he was activated.
