Current Sports Illustrated
There's a two page story on the Saints in the new issue of SI. (It's the one with the NBA preview in it.)
It was a nice read on the overall state of the team and Payton. One highlight I really like was from preseason.... Payton shows them a picture of the US Basketball team and says something like "look at this collection of talent and coaching, as good as it gets. but they didn't win because they were not a team" (paraphrasing) If anyone wants some bullet point highlights, just let me know. SI can be kinda hard to run down sometimes. |

I may just transcribe the article here tomorrow. (Don't have it here at work.)

My favorite quote from the article:
"You have to look at why they've only won one playoff game in 40 years," he said earlier this month. "There's a reason. We're in a place where, within 10 minutes, you can get a daiquiri, sit at a blackjack table and go to a strip club -- and you can do it at four in the morning. If you've got the type of people on your team who are susceptible to that, they'll find trouble. So yeah, character's important." Any guesses as to whom he may have been thinking about... |
so true.
