T Zach Strief
The Saints were without LT Jammal Brown today because of an ankle injury that limited him all week in practice. Another seventh round pick, T Zach Strief, dressed for the first time as a pro and started at the critical left tackle position. The result? Zero sacks on Drew Brees and a coaching staff that wasn't afraid to run behind the giant 6'7, 350 pound rookie from Northwestern. Lining up against one of the best pass rushers in the league, Strief matched DE Simeon Rice blow for blow for most of the game, and when Rice was able to out-fast Strief, Brees calmly stepped up and delivered the ball. Strief was called for a false start in the second quarter.
He held his own against one of the best - that's a good showing!!!!! |
RE: T Zach Strief
Yeah on draft day I was like WHY!!!!! but he played good agianst a good DE Rice GOOOO SAINTS !!!

RE: T Zach Strief
Strief was outstanding for dressing for his first NFL game and only having one hand. He pretty much shut Rice down.

I was going to post something simialr about Streif. He did remendously. Rice didn't even see Brees all game long.

RE: T Zach Strief
I love seeing this O-line mature, get tested, and get some love. When players like Streif and even Henderson with the WR corps step up when cornerstones like Jamaal and Joe are out, it is just a testament to the preparation that payton has his players go through (last week not withstanding). You always hear about the mentality of "Any Given Sunday", and I think Payton has an "Any given player" mentality where you've got to know that anyone, ANYONE can step up and fill in, every player can be the hero, and in practice and preparations, I bet he has even those who play on special teams or on the bench thinking on any given play on Sunday, they can be the difference maker.
I can't wait until Clark gets the call as LB. Looking forward to Reggie having his big day. It will happen, and I think it is because of this balance from the coach that all the players gotta be ready to go, every last one counts, or why even be there. That's just what I think, don't actually know, but it would be cool to think he gives that kind of parity and/or? levity to the team, kinda like what New England does? |
Strief did an excellent job. Big props to him and the rest of the line on pass blocking. Now if we could get them to maul some people on the runs.............. But hats off to strief, With one hand too. Wow.

Think about this scenario. Reggie "getting it" as the Saints enter the playoffs. All cylinders clicking. Add Reggie with his newfound awareness....... Frighteningly wonderful for Saints fans! I Believe! I Have Faith! Who Dat! etc.... |
kuke ....... ditto ditto and ditto
|
That is why the coaches make the choices on draft day, and not the fans. They know who to get and why to get them.
|
Strief has only one hand??? Did I miss something on draft day....
|
Didn't know why he was drafted so low on draft day... but man did we hit the jackpot with our two seventh rounders. You can't beat that. I knew Strief could be a decent player in the league but Colston has exceeded all expectations.
For once, props the the front office. |
man payton is just rubbing it in isn't he. I confess he did draft an excellent group. Zach was outstanding. So much waiting to see this group fail. I will never second guess him again.
yeah right. :D |

Like I said in another post.......I'm all for starting Strief over Brown. At the bare minimum, we would have less penalties against the offensive line. :?

I am disqualifying myself from ever negatively commenting on any of Sean Payton's draft picks as this group of rookies has shown me I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

i said it earlier, before the season, that strief will be taking over the right tackle spot.... i figured he'd be starting by now, but he hasn't been healthy but now that he is, it's only a matter of time.... esp. when you see payton chewing stinchcomb's ass after each series.... i think that with brown, faine, evans, and strief to run behind, deuce and bush will have plenty of good years ahead of them....
|
Na.... Brown is better than Strief.... Rice wasn't 100% that game anyway... but not taking anything away from Strief he did good....
|
i'm not saying he going to take brown's job... brown is our left tackle.... strief will be our right tackle.... after all that's the position he played in college.... i never said that he'd take brown's job.... he'd take stinchcomb's
