New Orleans at N.Y. Giants, Week 16

-- Depending on how things play out in the coming six weeks, Sean Payton's homecoming to New York (the Saints rookie head coach was a Giants offensive assistant from 1999 to 2002) could be pivotal in the battle for one of the NFC's two first-round playoff byes. A week off in January could be huge for either the Saints, who have won just one playoff game in their history, or the Giants, whose last postseason victory came in the 2000 NFC title game against Minnesota.



Carolina at New Orleans, Week 17

-- It's not far-fetched to imagine the NFC South title being on line at the Super Dome on New Year's Eve, because I still believe John Fox's Panthers are going to be a factor in the division race when all is said and done. The last two years, Week 17 has been a doozey for Carolina, with the red-hot Panthers being upset at home by the Saints to miss out on a playoff berth in 2004, and then obliterating the Falcons at the Georgia Dome in 2005, locking up a postseason invite.

the giant game is precisely the reason i was sick over the baltimore loss and why, imo, there are no "good" losses... that is going to be one tough game, esp. w/ so much on the line.... i didn't expect the saints to 15-1, but that game was a win, but b/c we played like we did, we pretty much handed the game away, and now can't afford to lose a game, not even to a team we're underdogs to...
