...Aaron Brooks! Must have been all that money they gave him.

I was as impressed with AB than I have ever been. I was one questioning his abilities and leadership. I still have questionsk, but he played maybe his finest game as a saint. he showed some poise in the pocket and the rifle I already knew about. He read the coverages pretty well. He also made the best play I have seen him make in his time in New Orleans. He looked off the safety and turned and fired the strike to ROY stallworth. Excellent read and play. Still remebering that it was just one game i was impressed. As a Brooks basher I apologize for a week. Im sorry AB

As you guys are watching Brett Farve this season, know that if you look back at Brett when he was in the stage of his career that Aaron Brooks is in now you\'ll see VERY similar Stats. In some ways Aaron\'s stats are better.

DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THE LOOK IN AB\'S EYES LAST WEEK? THE MAN SHOWED NO FEAR. LAST YEAR AT TIMES HE HAD THAT DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS LOOK. I FOR ONE HOPE HE KEEPS IT UP AND KEEPS IMPROVING.

It was either confidence or he was thinking about his check book balance .

What I noticed was a lack of the deep threat and an almost to eager willing to find the dump off man . And how that ends up being the fullback time and time again I have got to wonder .

What I have got to love is the 3-2 defense . Venturi is causing national havoc with this thing ... This defense may prove to be the end of the Rams ...

Geez Saintz08, it\'s been over a week since we\'ve heard from you last and that\'s the best you can do???

You know , I had the same feeling watching Brooks in the Tampa Bay game ...

Hope he impresses against Green Bay .

Hmmm....I guess that was the best you could do, you must be out of practice. Well keep trying and you should do better later on when your arguements have legitimate points and hold a little more weight.

Brooks is still not impressive . What is to say , Duece is loose and the D is bringing it .

The defense is saving Brooks .

Cassady37 09-15-2002 06:36 PM

Here, let me say it where even you can understand it....when the Saints lose on Aaron Brook\'s mistake, THEN you have a point.

JOESAM2002 09-15-2002 11:43 PM

THE ONLY THING I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT AARON BROOKS IS, I THINK THE PACKERS SAW WHAT THEY HOPED THEY WOULDN\'T,A LOSS ON THE SCOREBOARD. GIVE THE MAN CREDIT,NO HE CAN\'T WIN THE GAME BY HIMSELF BUT BY THE SAME TOKEN HE CAN\'T LOSE IT BY HIMSELF EITHER.BROOKS IS PLAYING VERY GOOD FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW. SURE HE MAKES MISTAKES, BUT SO DO WE ALL. EVEN BRET FAVRE AS GOOD AS HE IS MADE MISTAKES TODAY. BUT ONE \"TEAM\" WON AND ONE \"TEAM\" LOST.

Yeah, get off the AB. He has a lot of weapons now, and, he is showing us he knows how to use them. He threw passes to at lease five different recievers on almost every drive.

saintz08 09-16-2002 12:46 AM

Cassady , when the defense is so heavily relied upon , that is the point .

Venturi knows it , that is why the little speech . Brooks for some reason seems to be the weak link in the offense .

Brooks at this point is not impressive by quarterbacking standards . He has great athleticism which allows him to avoid the rush and a strong arm to throw strikes . His accuracy is suspect at this point , he has trouble dropping the ball into a receiver and has not been able to hit on the long streak . At this point he is simply nothing more than an athletic B rated quarterback .

Cassady37 09-16-2002 05:52 AM

Yes,you gotta love that......

No, Saintz08, the point is that the defense, although playing great, has only scored 1 defensive TD in the two wins. That means the Offense has scored 55 of the 61 points and that\'s not because AB is lucking the ball around and in the endzone. It\'s because he is a legitimate threat and is showing he knows what to do with the ball. I think other fans on here are finally realizing you really don\'t know what you\'re talking about.

saintfan 09-16-2002 09:26 AM

You guys lay off Saintz08. He\'s having a hard time chewing that crow. He\'s been griping about Aaron from day one. At least he\'s consistant...lets just be thankful he\'s not in charge. Aaron made a few mistakes, and the same can be said for ANY QB during most any game. I\'m just glad it was Golden Boy Brett Farve who dropped that snap and not AB. Can you imagine the junk we\'d have to listen to then? As far as I\'m concerned, Aaron is doing quite well. I think our 2-0 record proves that. Our friend Saintz08 has blinders on. I expect will be able to pick on him all season long! :D

saintz08 09-16-2002 11:25 AM

Yes,you gotta love that......

Well you know what they say about crow , the longer you chew it the easier it is to swallow . But I am no where near that so here we go .

Sporting News grading so far in the season

Quarterback B
Runningback A
Wide Receivers B+
O line A +

That makes Brooks the weak link . Personally I think switch Stallworth and Pathon and the grading goes to A- .

This much talent on the offense and the Saints are barely winning ??? Brooks at this point is nothing more than a B rated quarterback . Not even close to the levels of Brady , Vick and Mc Nabb . He was overrated going into the season and rode that ranking into the contractual talks .

The defense has shortened the field for Brooks , and kept opposing offenses off balance . They have made the plays that kept the Saints ahead . Brooks is only hitting slants , curls and outs on receiver routes and is using the dump off way to much . After 2 games , Brooks is a fast ball pitcher with an extremely talented supporting cast that makes him look good . Not the projected and self proclaimed \" Golden Boy \" .

Brooks was a 4th round selection and a 3rd string pine rider before coming to New Orleans . Now really gentlemen take off the rose colored glasses and step into the light ...

Saintz08 you are really starting to show your ignorance. I usually sit out of your arguments because you\'re going to believe what you want to believe anyway but you need to get your head out of your arse and accept that Brooks is doing a good job. You point Brooks out as a weak link because Sporting News gave him a \"B\" rating!? Then the wide receivers are weak too then according to that logic. Man you need to sit back and listen to yourself. The Tampa game was close because of bad coaching not because of Brooks. And I don\'t know what game you were watching but the Green Bay game was anything but close. Fact is Brooks is doing exactly what it takes to win. The Saints are 2-0 against 2 very good teams. So stop your bee-ahtchin\' about Brooks and enjoy the games! Yeah you\'re right, not even close to Vick, Brady or McNabb right? Well maybe not but the Falcons are 0-2 and the Eagles are 0-1. So complain all you want, my Saints are 2-0 and I love having Brooks as a quarterback. No more worrying about pathetic play from a position that has been starving for a QB since the days of Archie. So whether you like him or not he is the man. And the last I checked he was tied for 2nd in the NFL in touchdowns. So I don\'t care what his rating is, how he moves his feet, or if he grins after every single play - as long as he is keeps putting up touchdowns and as long as the Saints keep winning, Brooks is the man.

Once again I apologize AB. Good game and great win. ROY Stallworth is a playmaker that the saints have never seen before. He will be making dbs look silly for years to come. The only person that can stop Joe Horn is Joe Horn. The best wideout combo in the league is forming here in New Orleans and AB is showing that he can feed them. If not for Sloan holding Duece would have had a huge day. I just wish I could see them swing him the ball in the passing game more let him make plays. All in all very impressive. The O-Line is awesome baby

When was the last time we saw anyone from The Sporting News suit up and play defense? Go back through the news reports and see what other defensive players have to say about AB.Those are the guys i\'d want to listen to, to see how good an offinsive player is.

Ignorance is an interesting thought there .

To directly connect the receivers to Brooks is ignorance , pure and simple . To eliminate the individual effort of a player is absurd . Whom do you connect Jerry Rice too ???
Horn was a threat in Kansas City .
Pathon was a threat in Indy .

These receivers would have made Everett the starting pro bowl Qb . Not to mention sitting behind this front line .

Green Bay game

Brooks leads the opening drive 68 yards . Good , but most opening drives are scripted and defenses are not set . Brooks leads a 21 yard drive , not that far with the current talent , not impressive . Next score Donte 34 yard gallop after Fontenot serves a pancake . Craver gets one . Duece is loose for 62 .

Impressive was Favre\'s passing skills , especially the final drive of the first half . Did you note the ball position ??? Knight sure did ... Packers lost thats for sure , but how many passes can Favre complete while spending the afternoon on his rear end ??? The defense delivered .

Brooks has athletic ability , and can fire the frozen rope . His leadership skills are questionable , he has no touch on the ball , his accuracy is questionable and he has yet to show he can hit the long ball ...

Hardly impressive for a quarterback that stated he was better then both Griese and Fiedler , and to see how that is coming along let\'s see.
123.8 Fiedler
100.0 Griese
79.3 Brooks

Still not impressive .

Brooks is doing a mediocre job at leading a very talented offense . With the support of a good defense . I understand the starving fan theory on the quarterback , but try to understand , post Billy Joe syndrome does not make Brooks a superstar .

JOESAM2002
George plimpton tried that writer turned player thing in Detroit and Indy , not sure we need to see it again ... It was ugly ....

Joe Horn was not a threat in K.C. and Pathon was having his first good year in Indy before he got hurt last year.

saintz08 09-16-2002 08:28 PM

Yes,you gotta love that......

Pathon was having his first good year in Indy before he got hurt .

Of course you are excluding his rookie year , since the only rookie to beat his reception and yardage total was Randy Moss . And of course you have taken into consideration he played opposite Marvin Harrison before coming to New Orleans .

Horn was not a threat in K.C..

He was 2nd on the club with receptions over 20 yards and 3rd in reception and yardage totals .

I suppose Mueller paid him the big bucks because he was slow and could help on special teams ?????

Saints08, are you trying to tell us you don\'t like Aaron Brooks? Who would you have as quarterback? As i said earlier, i\'d rather listen to the men that have to defense AB, for some misguided reason I think they might know a little more than any of us. And as a wise old football coach once said\" statistics are for losers\". But then again i suppose he didn\'t know what he was talking about.

Look ya\'ll. Do you know what to do with that annoying little punk in the back of the class, or that co-worker that just HAS to be right about everything? You ignore that person. Just ignore Saintz08. His mind won\'t be changed. If the Saints wn the Super Bowl and Brooks throws for 400 yards in the game he STILL wouldn\'t be satisfied. Let his ignorance keep him company! The Better Aaron plays the more Saintz08 will look for reasons to pass credit on to someone else. Sunday was Aaron\'s second game with the offense, and if Saintz08 doesn\'t get it by now he never will. ;)

When sports commentators follow all the potential greatness of the New Orleans Saints with IF, then I have to wonder .

If Brooks is not streaky
If Brooks is not Hinky , what is hinky ??? Did Pasquarelli just make that term up Monday ???

Sometimes sports casters generalize too much and take a problem and call it streaky or hot and cold , when it is simply the players inability to do it . All quarterbacks will eventually throw off their back foot , throw interceptions and force a pass , these are givens in the game .

Haslett was fascinated in how a mobile quarterback caused chaos in his defense while in Pittsburgh , so he went after Blake , Mc Carthy saw the same thing in Brooks in Green Bay and he ended up in New Orleans . Brooks has problems in his throwing style , Mc Carthy has been able to adjust the offense to these problems and mask them , the defense has been able to give him the short field and come up large with turn overs and stops . Eventually opposing defensive coordinators will see this and shut Brooks routes down and force him to expose his inabilities and some commentator may call it streaky . With the offensive arsenal the New Orleans Saints have at their disposal now , there is no reason games should be this offensively close .

If I had my way , I would not change Brooks . I would fire Mc Carthy and replace him with Riley . Riley knows offenses , Mc Carthy coaches quarterbacks .

Sorry JOESAM2002 , my association with NFL franchises ended a few years back , so I no longer have the luxury of asking opposing defensive players what they think of Brooks , I have to go with the Sports Casters ...
