I am not a fan of this flex scheduling...

A few months ago, I got tickets to the New Orleans / Dallas game in Texas Stadium, which is set for a noon-time kickoff on Dec. 10. Well thanks to this lovely flex scheduling, I have a bad feeling the NFL will try and make it their Sunday Night game for that day. Let's face it, that game will have NFC playoff implications, plus it'll be Sean Payton returning to face Parcells, and all that jazz.

I'd already made a hotel reservation for Saturday night, with the mindset that me and my friend would stay Saturday night in Dallas, go to the game on Sunday, then head home afterwards. Well thanks to "flex scheduling", I have no idea whether the game will be moved to 7:30 PM Sunday night, and probably won't know for another few days, if then.

I really hope they choose another Sunday night game that weekend but I seriously doubt they will.

Sucks about your trip. However, I am all for the Saints being placed on a National stage for Sunday or Monday nights. Good exposure for our boys. Keeps the city of New Orleans in the mind sets of fellow Americans too, which bodes well for Katrina victims (hopefully). Unfortunately, most Americans think the city has already been rebuilt.

Your bad feeling just became a reality!

Dammit!!

Thanks for the heads-up though. When I saw that link, I immediately switched my hotel reservation for Sunday instead of Saturday. I guess it's cool that some of the fans on this forum who are outside the viewing area and who don't have NFL Sunday Ticket will get to see their team play, though.

maximkat 11-27-2006 11:15 AM

ya this is really big for those of us that live 'ere up in maine 'eh. Yay!!! Two more games I can watch this year!!! (not including playoffs, so at least 3 ^^)

xan 11-27-2006 11:17 AM

While I feel your pain, albeit so very slightly, I am more excited about the opportunity to see this team in a real game against a quality opponent in prime time. I've gotten to see 3 games this year, and with this one, that'll make it 5, a record for Saints games in the northeast corridor.

neugey 11-27-2006 11:21 AM

I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully Brees will outplay that Johnny-come-lately Romo and we'll get to hear Madden sing the praises of Brees and Payton all thru the 4th quarter. Music to my ears.

rocky99 11-27-2006 02:14 PM

Get in, more Saints goodness in the UK. Means I have been able to see 4 games in 5 weeks all free of charge!!

pumpkindriver 11-27-2006 02:59 PM

As for me, I like the flex scheduling. It almost always guarantees a great match-up for Sunday night. And this time with the Saints- Cowboys match-up it works out perfectly for me. I have some family related activities set for that Sunday afternoon and I was going to have to miss seeing the game. Now that it has been moved to Sunday night, I get to have my cake and eat it too.
Woo Hoo!!! Geaux Saints!!!

Living in New York I'm a huge fan of the flex scheduling. The jets and giants are never scheduled at the same time so unless the saints play on sunday night or mnf, they are never on in this area. So I'm pumped that they put this game on sunday night, should be a great game and I'm real excited about seeing us in primetime again. I go to a bar and watch all the games anyways but it will be nice to watch one at home.

redjem25 11-27-2006 03:33 PM

I guess no going to the airport to see them that night. They will get in past midnight

LongTimeFan 11-27-2006 06:33 PM

Great news , was hoping the Saints would get another prime time game.
Sorry Gambler , I hope you still get to attend the game bro..

Now I'm really pumped...

TheGambler 11-27-2006 07:44 PM

Oh i'm definitely going....it was just kinda frustrating having to change plans like that...............but all i really did was move the hotel reservation from Saturday to Sunday, so I'll be fine. Should be a great game and I look forward to being there.

I too live in the dreaded Jet/Giant/Eagle triangle and RARELY get to see my Saints play on national TV. I was shocked to see them televised this Sunday, but they were only on the Philly Fox station, not the NY Fox station.

This will work great for me, as I can watch them on TV that Sunday night, get to see them play in the Superdome firsthand against the Skins, then come back home and freeze my tail off watching them play at Giants stadium.
Excellent!

If things continue to pan out the way the are, and Carolina makes a run for it too, I can see them moving the week 17 game for us also.

I like this flex scheduling, so that there will be good games on.

smyce 11-28-2006 05:06 AM

I live in Big 10 country. Packers, Bears and Vikings are all we get here. I've seen one Saints game at my house this season and the rest at bars.

I mean honestly, aside from a minor re-working of hotel accomodations, what can anyone possibly have against this flex scheduling? Instead of getting a game everyone thought would be good (perhaps Atlanta and Tampa) we are getting an excellent game with HUGE playoff implications. With or without the Saints in this game, flex scheduling is nothing but a blessing for the NFL fans.

poydras 11-28-2006 07:49 PM

I'm going to be real mad if they move the Carolina game to night time. It's New Years Eve!!!

Because not everyone has an entire day free like I fortunately have that day. What if someone had an appointment/engagement for Sunday evening, but got tickets to the game thinking it was a noon-time kickoff? Or how about this, what about someone who has to be at work at 11 PM for a night shift? I mean, do you realize the difference between a 12 Noon kickoff and a 7:15 PM kickoff? Much more significant than moving the game from 12 PM to 3 PM or something.

As for me, it isn't anything that's going to keep me from going to the game, but now I'm going to have to request Monday off from work (or at least the first half of the day) because I live 3 hours from Dallas, and there is no way I'm gonna drive home after getting out of that game at close to 11 PM. I have a state job so it's fairly easy for me to use leave time, but still......I didn't have plans originally to use any leave time for this game, seeing as how I would have had no problem getting back home Sunday evening with the originally scheduled noon kickoff. Also, just because I won't have any problems getting that Monday off from work, doesn't mean someone else in a similar situation would be able to request off that easily.

So anyway, since you asked the question as to what anyone could POSSIBLY have against flex scheduling, I hope my answer gives you some insight.

UNFORTUNATELY, I was told there is a strong possibility that it will be moved to primetime pending the outcome of the next three games

stockman311 11-29-2006 11:04 AM

I think it's fantastic. I am going to this game and it is going to be a COLD one, especially at night. So while all of those loser Cowboy fans are out in the stands freezing their a**es off I will be in my customer's luxury box wearing my Reggie Bush jersey laughing at them all through plexiglass as we whip some a**.
GEAUX SAINTS!

That's what I'm worried about. I'll still go, but only under protest.

daviddrake2 11-29-2006 01:58 PM

Personally, I love the new flex scheduling. It means that 1) there are less boring, one-sided, meaningless games on in primetime later in the season and 2) and this is the best of all, I get to watch the SAINTS more without having to hike over to the sports bar.

Unfortunately, even though there are hundreds of thousands of SAINTS fans in Houston, unless the SAINTS play a nationally televised game it is NEVER shown in Houston. Even when Dallas at any other time than noon on Sunday (Dallas games are ALWAYS on), the local Fox affiliate will show infomercials or old movie reruns rather than showing the SAINTS or another NFC game. I believe they have some kind of a deal with the NFL to do so. Either way, it S U C K S!!!
