I got word from someone in the equipment department that the Saints are contemplating wearing the black on black uniforms for the game against the 49ers this week. I know its not all that important, but i thought you all might want to know that. I like the black on black and i wish they would do it more often.

That decision would have been made before the season. You also have to have special permission way in advance.

BS meter? You have to petition the NFL to wear alternate uniforms? The Ravens, Jags, Bengals and Eagles all have 2 or 3 different color pants that they alternate. Black jerseys and black pants have been worn by the Saints a handful of times in the past few years and i dont think it is at the discretion of the NFL if they can do it or not. it wouldnt be unheard of for them to wear different pants this week would it?

The NFL only needs to approve new designs. Once that happens, they can wear the uniforms whenever they want.

The Black on Black were my favorite uniforms of the Saints.... they looked bad ass in them uniforms...

I like the black on black more when they wear black shoes with it.

I think they got that permission stuff out the way before the season started, but the visiting teams have to sign off on it. But, man i wish they would wear them, because they look so intimidating.

I tried to follow up on it last night and my source still doesnt know if they are going to wear them or not. I should not for sure by thursday or Friday and i will be sure to keep you guys posted.

Home teams declare dark or white jerseys before the season.

If the Saints do go black-on-black, it's most likely for contrast to the gold of the opposing 69ers...er 49ers.

I heard on WWL this afternoon (Wednesday) that the black pants have been ordered but have not come in yet, according to a source in the Saints front office.

Agreed. They wear gold helmets and gold pants just like us. Payton already did the white jerseys at home to make receivers easy to see, so this makes sense.

I actually like the black pants, white jersey road unis from a few years back.
One of those years, you never knew what we would come out wearing....all black....black pants with gold jerseys, those throwbacks. I liked it.

As far as petitioning the league, I'm not sure how much of a factor that is. We have kept it pretty vanilla for a few years now while other teams bust out different combos all the time. Hell, the cowboys have different helmets they wear.

They were discussing this topic on the BIG 870 about a month ago, and from what I remember of the conversation, they basically said we were good to go with the league for black pants, and they were waiting for the company to produce them for the team... if the opposing team okayed it, we could wear black on black... Bobbie Hebert was hoping they would play Back in Black by AC/DC at the game...

Its official....the Saints will be wearing the black on black unis this weekend. As soon as you see them walk on the field for pregame warmups in those uniforms, remember you heard it here first!!

For all you black on black uni lovers that own 360's..I have an announcement. In the marketplace they have made alternate uniformes for all the teams and the downloads are FREE. Ironically(and what a way to get stoked about sunday) the Saints home alt uniform is the BLACK ON BLACK uniforms and man......do they look PIMP!!!!!!!! GO SAINTS!!!

Imagine if they had Black helmets w/gold emblem...

All black works for me, with the gold helmets I think the color scheme makes a fashion statement, but in the end the W is all that matters..
