Bush wondered, "Am I built for this game?"

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Reggie Bush never seemed fazed by the wise cracks that he was the highest-paid decoy in the NFL.

Yet, after often mediocre production through his first 11 games, even Bush began to wonder how long it might take to establish himself as the prolific scoring weapon he was hyped to be when the New Orleans Saints drafted him last spring.

"Being in this position that I'm in, I have a million things going through my head," Bush said after practice this week in preparation for Sunday night's game at Dallas. "The constant question to myself is whether I'm doing the right things, am I built for this game?"

Saints players and coaches have given Bush credit all along for his versatility as a runner and receiver, which allows New Orleans to present him as a threat from a wide range of formations.

In doing so, Bush was a useful distraction to opposing defenders while Deuce McAllister ran for a team-leading nine touchdowns, or while Drew Brees passed for long TDs and league-leading yardage to Marques Colston, Devery Henderson and Joe Horn.

I said it before, Bush puts to much pressure on himself, his coaches and teammates need to continue to encourage the young rookie, the media hyped him up so bad to where he's trying to live up to it right away, IMO I think he must be somewhat happy with how well he played last week but more important that people around him view him more than just a decoy..
He'll be alright, it will just take time for him to adjust in the NFL.
The guy will be a special player one day soon.

This article is for the ones who said that Reggie's TDs weren't that big of a deal and how those TDs should've gone to Deuce. This was huge for Reggie's confidence.

I'm not sure why everyone is so worried about Bush. The statement above is quite true.

Bush has pretty much been outstanding over the course of the season. We don't need him to be a 1500 yd running back. We need him to be a 1500 yd RB/WR/decoy/PR/blitz picker upper/safety valve/excitement generator.

He seems to be on pace for exactly that.

Dude just isn't 3 yds and a cloud of dust.

I just have to say hats off to Duece for this quote. There are alot of players who would be so sick of hearing about the kid by now. He busted his butt last week for 136 yards and got no pub because of Reggie. He also got no touches near the goal line. Not a word of complaint, just support.

Number 26 is PURE CLASS. Proud to have him on my team :)

Winning heals everything. As long as the Saints keep winning, I don't think Deuce or Bush really mind splitting time with each other to make the scheme more successful.

I agree that it does take time for a Rookie to reach his peak. I think that if Bush can learn from Deuce's runs; patience, until a hole opens, then explode, oppose to wanting to out run everyone at the corners. Bush seems to be too excited and quick to want to do too much. Bush will settle down over time and find his groove. Bush and Deuce both compliment each other, off and on the field. Both are classy individuals. What a treat to get to watch them both play!

My only complaint with the run game against SF is why they didn't let Stecker & McAfee rotate carries towards the end. Why risk injuries when the game is sealed?

Something that a lot of people are overlooking is the fact that by both Deuce and Bush splitting carries, this saves on wear and tear. Later in when the playoffs they will be fresh. Deuce has only carried the ball more then 20 times on I believe 3 occasions this season, compared to mid 20's most games until his injury. Because of Bush, Deuce was able to grind it out against SF with 136 yards. This will be important in the games to come with Colston and Horn's injuries. Any chance of Micheal Lewis lining up in the WR spot?

#26 is pure class!! I hope Deuce stays with us for many years! He's still my favorite running back! The Deuuuuuuuuuce is loose! :airguitar:
