So this pisses me off.......
 

the Saints come back from a 3-13 year to win the NFC South, they do it with a QB everyone throw to the wayside, and with a reciever NO ONE wanted, and an O-line who didn't have a starter returning to their same position. EVERY SINGLE "EXPERT" said that Payton was screwy for taking the job. They said Bush would have zero impact. They said Deuce wouldn't be the same. They said the defense would be the worse in the league and the Saints had ZERO shot at even a .500 season. Well now the Saints are 10-5 they have won the NFC South AND a bye in the playoffs they beat 5 teams who still have a shot for the playoffs , and lost to 2 more playoff teams, and what is everyone saying?

"Eirc Mangini should be coach of the year"

"Chad Pennington for Comeback player of the year"

"The New York Jets are the most improved team from last year."

You know what.................Keep it coming, because when it comes time to play that playoff game I hope all the so-called "EXPERTS" give us ZERO credit for being a talented team. Then we can slide under the radar all the way to the Super Bowl.

I could go either Deuce or Brees, but like Pak, i'm a bit biased too.

Brees. Deuce is a close second. Pennington's a distant third. Pennington hasn't distinguished himself like Brees. Deuce didn't get the touches.

Going back to Mighty12's original post, not only that but now the media has all jumped back on the Eagle band wagon. To hear them talk you'd think Garcia's the second coming or something. And yeah the Jets are being fawned over too. But then again, none of the division winners are being talked about all that much. I guess most of the interest right now is on which teams are gonna squeak into the playoffs on the 5th & 6th seeds. Its pretty convoluted and every analyst is going thru the playoff scenarios. Its all good though, because after this weekend there will only be 6 teams in each division to talk about and they'll have to mention us, if only to eat up broadcast clock.

I think it should be Brees, but in my heart I would like it to be Deuce.

If we need one or two yards in a critical situation, I want Deuce in there, he rarely goes backwards.

Payton ridded the team of malcontents, discontents, slackers, nutcases etc. We have some quality people in there and Deuce is at the top of the list.

I dont consider Brees a comeback player because although the Chargers did not make the playoffs last year he had a decent year, also he got hurt in the last game...Palmer has had a respectable year and no one is talking Comeback PoY for him so I think they are in the same boat on that one...I do think Brees is a Co-MVP when you measure his importance to the team...There is no way anyone can convince we are 10-5 going into the last week with a first round bye with Brooks, McPherson, or even Martin...

Coach of the Year: Payton, hands down....Mangini deserves credit for what he has done but look at the records and try to tell me Mangini's is just as impressive...Not gonna happen

Comeback PoY: Pennington...He was out almost the entire last two seasons with the same debilitating injury, give it to the guy, he pissed in everyone's cornflakes with this comeback...

I will give Mangini credit, they survived Curtis Martin's retirement and they have rallied and got the job done. BUT ... they have won a lot of close games. They're lucky to be 9-6 and I checked their schedule - they got shutout twice this year (vs Chi 10-0, vs Jax 41-0) and they've scored 99 less points than the Saints this year. And also, the Saints won their division, while the Pats still rule the AFC East. That gives Payton the clear edge over Mangini IMHO.

This Week, The Eagles are the flavor of the week
It changes all the time, like Baskin- Robbins Ice Cream.

But all that really matters is what happens on Feburary 4th.

How about the guy that "CAME BACK" from a surgery that everyone said he would NEVER come back from. I remember arguing the case that Drew would return to pro bowl form, and alot of people were saying that no QB has ever "COME BACK" from the type of injury he sustained. He IS the come back player of the year. The chargers threw him to the wayside, and no other team would touch him, but we did, and it worked.

Let the Jets and Chad have the awards. They are well deserved, despite all of the objections here, and they will be one and done anyway in that AFC playoff structure.

With all due respect guys, Brees didnt miss any time last year...and neither did Carson Palmer. Now technically, they had to come back from injuries they suffered at the end of the year, but they played 16 games last season and both had very good years. So i dont think they should be considered for comeback players of the year. I do see the arguement for Deuce to get it, but i see this as Pennington's award. As far as coach of the year goes, Payton shouldnt only win...it should be unanimous. He should win and it shouldnt even be close. He didnt just have issues with his football team, he had issues with the entire city and state.

I think were going to get screwed on a couple of year ending awards, but that's o.k. We still have the Coach, and Executive Of Year, Offensive Player Of The Year(should be MVP, but that's o.k.), Comeback Player Of The Year, should be Brees or McAllister, not Pennington, he's doing o.k., but no where near the success that Brees and McAllister is having. And ROY will be a ripoff, a travesty, a crime of popularity, I'm not taking anything from Young, but he's only completing 52.6% of his passes, 18td's-6rushing, 11int's, and a 69.7 QB rating, some would say, he's a rookie Mike Vick. Now, you have REGGIE BUSH, if voters acually look at film on REGGIE, even the games where he barely registered any statistics, they would see the blocks this kid makes on a regular. REGGIE has scored 8tds, 5-rushing, 2-rec., 1 punt return, and has 1490yds from scimmage, all of this while being the most spied on player on the field every Sunday. There's noway possible that Vince Young is more of a ROY over REGGIE BUSH noway in hell, but because the Titans won 6 games in a row they'll going to give it to him, what a shame. So, they can take those awards and shove'em, we here in the BLACK & GOLD NATION know the truth, I'll take the one that really count the most. SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!! GO NFC SOUTH DIVISION CHAMPION SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll reiterate what someone above JUST said. Brees didn't miss any game time last year, so he's not going to get Comeback player of the year. What's he coming back from? A really good year?

Deuce is impressive, but sorry not more impressive than Chad Pennington. He has them most likely going to the playoffs and they have FAR less talent than we do.

And what VY has done to that Titans team, is simply amazing. We all love Reggie here, but lets keep it real now. Reggie is one piece of our many offensive weapons, and he hasn't put up numbers until recently. We all know that Reggie's contributions go beyond the numbers, but so does Vince Young's. You can't say that Reggie's stats don't count but Vince Young's does.

Reggie has an outstanding supporting cast, whereas VY IS the Titans offense. And yes, winning 6 games in a row is highly impressive Look past your bias, bro. Vince Young has earned ROY.

First, who cares who names what? So ESPN wants to pander to NYC. Let them.

..that said, and to merely counterpoint what has been posted here...

Mangini has done a good job of coaching the Jets. Just like it was with the Saints and the Bengals, anyone who can coach them to above .500 ball is going to get accolades. The Jets have been a sorry-ass franchise since Namath, who's in the HoF for "guaranteeing" the Jets would win SBIII and playing in NY, but he really was a vry average QB.

Hiowever, at this point in time:
The Saints have wrapped up the 2nd seed in the playoffs.
The Jets are not in the playoffs. Yeah, I know, they play Oakland, and if they win, they are in as a 6th seed, yet, they're still not in.


As for the "comeback player":
Nowadays "comeback player of the year" is not awarded to players who had a really bad season then came back the next year to have a terrific season. If you look at the players who have been awarded the "honor" recently, it's been players who have come back from injury, not a bad season, or for losing playing time, but specifically, because they came back from an injury and had a good season after the injury, or even because they came back to play when the injury was considered career threatening. Off the top of my head, the past 6 or so years you got Braint Young, Steve Smith, Jon Kitna, Garrison Hearst... heck Teddy Bruschi was co-comeback palyer of the year last year for coming back from a stroke in the offseason. So Brees very well could receive the title.

Now, if Drew Brees does get the title, it will mark an unprecedented 2nd time he gets the honor. He was the Associated Press' 2004 Comeback Player of the Year. And it will be ironic since he received it not because he was injured in 2003, but because of a bad 2003 and an excellent 2004.

Agree Tobias - No way Mangini gets COY based on head to head vs. Payton. What the Saints have done under Payton is only win what many talking heads consider the best NFC division and get two wins from the Superbowl. Thats based on today so we'll just have to see how it plays out. I don't see any of the other awards going to Saints.
