Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
Which CB would you go after in the draft?
|
RE: Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
i think we go free agency and go after clements or samuel.

Coach Payton won't stand for this kind of performance. I think if there was a real opportunity to upgrade at the position this past year he would have. I fully expect him to be diligent in upgrading that secondary. The biggest liablity by far.

FA would be best for a #1 CB. draft another to groom that can step in on nickle and dimes from day 1
2. Marcus McCauley, Fresno State 3. *Darrelle Revis, Pittsburgh 4. Daymeion Hughes, California Hughes is kind of a favorite for that role |

Free agency. And get a middle LB while you're at it. My Grandmother can tackle better than Simoneaux... and she's 92 with one leg!!!!

RE: Re: RE: Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
I've been beating this drum all year, but here it is again. The only way to upgrade the secondary is through free agency. The crop of corners in this draft sucks. Only two really grade out as first round picks, and they will be gone long before the Saints pick.

RE: Re: RE: Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
I'm all for the Saints to get a CB and LB in the free agency period, but they will have to shell out the cash for that. Anything but another year of Freddy Toast...

RE: Re: RE: Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
I didn't see F Thomas getting much help. That would have been a good idea imo.

RE: Re: RE: Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
Samuel from FA. The reason why we'll have the money is b/c I don't see us paying Charles Grant the big money to re-sign him. Besides Ninkovich has tons of talent and plays very well
The draft is kinda weak at CB, especially when we pick. I go Alexander in the 1st, Willis will be gone, PP gone, McCauley Revis and Hall all gone. |
RE: Re: RE: Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
do not back on Samuel gang. Pats have struggled with CB for the past 5 years. Keeping them healthy is the big problem. I think he is on board with the Pats way of thinking. He has given all the signs of wanting to stay a Pat.
Just remember Stinch is also a free agent this year. So a RT maybe high on the list. Some team will offer good money to him, that i am sure of. So signing a FA or drafting a tackle, be they left or right, might be on the shopping list too. |
RE: Re: RE: Good Season boys...but its time to draft a CB.
`I know we need a CB because Fred Toast sucks. but maybe our secondary sucks because we can never play zone. We always need to put our safetys in the box to help stop the run, maybe we need a run stopping Middle LB more so we can get out of man to man all the time. Take a look at the bears they play alot of zone.

F.T. doesnt suck, he is a solid nickle corner but he gets burned by trying to play press coverage and then doesnt recover from the double move... it also would help if bullocks would give him some help over the top but he is usually slow to react and is out of position... F.T. shouldnt get all the blame.. bullocks shoulda been there to help... on the berrian crazy TD catch.. bullocks was 5 yards away from where berrian was and didnt look like he was even trying to get there to make a play
as for F.A's i like clement from buffalo... he is pretty solid and would give us a very strong secondary plus i like the addition of a rookie as well... maybe the Thorpe award winner Aaron Ross from TX longhorns.. he is pretty good and the longhorns have done a good job putting out NFL caliber Corners and safetys the past few years |
I watched that ILB from Ole Miss play the last few years. I think he is going to be a formitable player in the NFL. I also think, that not alot of people know who he is, so there's a good chance he's going to be around at the end of the first round. I like Fujita, and Simoneou, but either a run stuffing MLB, or ILB would be a major pick up in F.A. or in the draft.

I think we should try to get a CB via FA, & resign Grant if we can afford it.
|
id also like to see an upgrade at middle linebacker... danny clark was supposed to be the "guy" but hasnt lived up to his billing i guess... he makes some plays on special teams but couldnt beat out simoneau i guess... if willis is there when we pick.. he would be super hard to pass up... being the best LB in the SEC for 2 years is hard to do...

I would hate to see Grant leave. I've always liked him and I think he's enjoyed playing for Payton, he's been a force all season and I don't think Ninkovich is ready to be a full time starter. Add to that we don't have a ton of depth at DE and were platooning alot of tweener DT's like Lake, Whitehead, etc. in the rotation. I see us shelling out the money to keep him and I don't see him being too greedy.

Could we put the franchise tag on Grant?
|
more likely the transition tag

I disagree with this. I think that Grant understand's the business side of this league. He will not get another opportunity to sign a contract the size of what he could get at this time in free agency. You've got to figure he's going to sign a 4 or 5 year deal and at the end of that he's going to be on the backside of his career. So, if he's going to get that big signing bonus now is the time for him to cash in. At the same time, we've got good cap room, and a decision has to be made on whether that money would be best spent addressing multiple areas of concern or just this one. Is Grant that important to our defense? I'm not sure The CB situation, noone would argue has GOT to be improved. However, I also don't think this draft has any real attractive options for the time we are going to draft in the 1st round. So, I think FA is the only real option for this position. I think it's absolutely clear that Fred Thomas has to go. Regardless of how much you blame him for the long pass plays, it's clear that opposing offenses have identified him as the weak link and there is no reason that wouldn't keep doing that. A change is essential. Simouneau played hard, but I don't think he's a high quality starter. Adalius Thomas would be a great fit here. I think he would bring some attitude, an attack the football kind of mindset, and from everything that I read, a very good work ethic that would fit the kind of mindset that Payton is trying to instill in this team. I really liked alot of the personalities on this team, but after a season like this I believe it's clear that this organization has a real opportunity to be Super Bowl Champions. Our attitude as far as the acquisition and release of players needs to reflect that. It doesn't come around all the time and a team has to grab that bull by the horns or the opportunity will have passed by with thoughts of "What if?". I think Loomis has some really tough decisions to make this offseason. Someone is going to get let loose and a case can be made to resign alot of these guys: Grant, Stinchcomb, Young (I know we need to improve DT, but there's just not a whole lot of improvement that I see out there), etc. I'm just really glad that I don't have to make the decisions and get to sit back and be a back seat driver. Good luck, Mickey. |
