Cowboys | Phillips the choice as new head coach
Wed, 7 Feb 2007 23:25:15 -0800

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports league and Dallas Cowboys sources have said San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will be named the Cowboys' new head coach. Phillips traveled to Dallas during the evening Wednesday, Feb. 7, after learning he was the team's choice. Contract details and signing a contract still need to be finalized but Phillips could be officially introduced as early as Thursday, Feb. 8.

I think he's the perfect fit for them. He coached up San Diego's D into one of the best in the league. Dallas runs the same 3-4 and already have the type of playmakers San Diego has. I expect Ware to compete for Defensive Player of the Year next season.

Ha...all I have to say is I'm glad he's their head coach. They could've done better.

well his defense will be great, lets see who he gets as an OC.

The short answer is no. As far as the OC, Jerry (Al Davis) Jones made that choice before hiring Phillips. It's Jason Garrett, Aikman's former back up.

i would be quite pissed if he was our choice. he has proved he doesn't really offer much as a head coach. they may have a great d but lets see how much they win. bad choice.

The Cowboys run a 3-4 defense and Wade is a 4-3 type coach..
Will be interesting to see how he makes adjustments on defense and how he handles T.O

Parcells did a pretty good job of not letting TO become a distraction on the Cowboys team. I'll be suprised if Phillips can pull that off.

While the Cowboys have not officially named Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator, Phillips said Garrett will be working with the quarterbacks

:?:

Confused?! Wade was the DC at San Diego, which runs a 3-4. So why is it he's a 4-3 type coach?

All you have to do is look at Norv Turner to realize that a great coordinator doesn't necessarily make a great HC. Wade Phillips had two chances already. It's shaping up nicely in Big D (for the rest of the league) because Jason Garrett is just going through some on-the-job training and then he'll be taking over. It's not going to matter what Phillips does. T.O. knows this and will undermine the hell out of him.

Aside from The Tuna, "Jerruh" has had a nasty habit of hiring head coaches that he could control ever since he blew out Jimmy Johnson. He wants to have TOTAL control of the Cowboys, including on the sideline. He should just get it over with and name himself Head Coach.

Meddling owners don't have a good track record when it comes to winning championships. Ask Daniel Snyder. Ask Al Davis.

Congratulations, "Jerruh". In a few years, you'll have a shiny new stadium, which will be home to a mediocre football team.

You can put lipstick on a pig...

I have to agree that Phillips has a horrible track record as a head coach. He basically set the Bills back so far, that they are just now getting back into contention five years later. Hey, it could be worse, they could have hired Martz.
