The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports the marketing representative for Saints RB Reggie Bush emphatically denied that Bush spoke with RB Joe McKnight during the recruiting process that landed him at Bush's alma mater, Southern California. Mike Ornstein said Saturday he was going on the record for Bush to reassure LSU fans, upset with McKnight's decision, that Bush was not involved in the process. "We don't want the people of Louisiana thinking that RB Reggie Bush is recruiting a player from LSU, that was headed for LSU, and is recruiting him for USC," Ornstein said. "Because that is not happening." Ornstein said he spoke with Bush on Friday about reports that McKnight, at a Wednesday press conference after signing with the Trojans, said that he'd been on a conference call with Bush to discuss allegations that Bush and his family had received "improper benefits" from the school that could result in NCAA sanctions. Such contact with Bush would also be a recruiting violation. McKnight later stepped back from those comments, saying he misspoke. "This is just another fictitious story," Ornstein said. "Reggie has never talked to that kid, never recruited any kid for USC since he's left USC. "I talked to Reggie last night. I asked, 'Did you have anything to do with recruiting this kid?' He said, 'What kid?' I gave him the kid's name, and he said, 'I never recruited any kid.' Reggie said it's a 100 percent lie. 'I never talked to that guy. HC Pete Carroll never asked me to talk to the guy. And I've never recruited the guy.' "
