Excellent news!

papz 04-26-2007 09:50 AM

There goes our starter opposite Mike. Now unless a Revis or Hall falls, or we trade up to get either, we should wait until the 2nd to address CB... maybe even the third.

WhoDat205 04-26-2007 09:55 AM

I'll sleep easier Friday night, but 4 yr/$15M...does that not seem a little long/high?

And how do they determine which of the 3 fourths the Colts get?

papz 04-26-2007 10:00 AM

I also thought it was a bit high. Hopefully he's going to be well worth it.

saintsfan1976 04-26-2007 10:08 AM

good question 205, and you're not alone in your speculation. love to see how the contract is set up.....

as far as trading up, we've got the cap room to do it, no??

man this makes draft day even more exciting!!!! (we only have to wait 5 hours on Saturday) lol.

Do will take BPA, fill a "need" or trade up for a premier talent that could make an impact immediately on D?? or O???

mjf150 04-26-2007 10:27 AM

With the signing of Jason Daivid, John Murphy of Yahoo! Sports believes that the Saints will draft Dwayne Bowe (WR) from LSU.

hagan714 04-26-2007 10:43 AM

I do think the draft choice is an option. this is not a trade. They should be getting our 4th. This is all by nfl guide lines concerning RFA. so I am banking on 126

papz 04-26-2007 10:45 AM

Beason, Timmons, and Olsen are on my overrated list. Not saying they're not going to be good pros, just not to what they're being hyped.

WVSaint 04-26-2007 11:37 AM

this sets us up to take BPA at 27, offense or defense.....we dont have to key in on a first round CB now, good move by the front office in my opinion

jergensl 04-26-2007 11:43 AM

this will allow the saints to take the best available player instead of worring about need.

i would love to see bowe or jarrett fall to the saints. either would make a great replacement for horn. henderson is a great slot wr..not a #2

mikesaintfan 04-26-2007 12:25 PM

bpa

if olsen is there do we take him?

There are also rumors that he didn't have a particularly good interview. Don't remember where I heard that, but I'm gonna check. If you notices teams with fairly successful passing games, you have a possession guy, a speedy down the field guy and good complimentary wr's off the bench. Right now, we have a great possession guy in Colston, a great off the bench threat in Henderson, a reliable off the bench, dependable (albeit injury prone) vet wr in Patten. Copper is also dependable and a nice option off the bench. For me, if we are going to take a WR that high, I would rather it be on a guy like Ginn Jr or S.Smith. Fast guys who stretch the field and are a threat to bust it on every play they touch it. Bowe is not that nor will he ever be.

Because he has great hands and good size. A Bowe, Colston, and Henderson trio would be difficult to defend... pick your poison basically. Colston is more than capable to stretching the field as is Bowe who isn't exactly a snail. However, my favorite receiver in this draft is Steve Smith... a USC guy I might add *cough*. I wouldn't mind us adding him either. But if it was Bowe or Smith, I honestly don't know who I would pick. In Payton we trust.

9thWardDesire 04-26-2007 12:55 PM

That must means "Flypaper" Fred Thomas is on the way out.

Bobaganoosh 04-26-2007 01:10 PM

The Colts get the Saints original fourth round pick...by rule, you have to give up the pick that is yours..you cannot use picks obtained in trade and it is not negotiable. So it is indeed our last pick in the 4th round. You heard from me that Bowe did not interview well with the Saints. That is straight from Payton and Curtis Johnson. They still may take him if he is by ahead of everyone else on their board but dont count on it. And 4 years for a 24 year old corner with 3 years starting experience is not too long at all...and with the rate CB's are getting paid these days, thats kind of a bargain when you consider that the majority of the money is coming in the first year of the deal, not the back end of it. It was structured that way so the Colts couldnt match it and it worked out for the Saints.

Whoaaa love the sign by new orleans this guy is young and has been a starter for the colts last 2 seasons he is a good young corner going into his prime and as for the draft new orleans dosent have to have a corner they go go somewhere else with that pick ....

I think that Bowe fits quite well in our offense. I agree that he is not a burner who can stretch the field. And in your assessment, I feel like Henderson is the speedy down the field guy and Bowe is another big body that can go across the middle and make plays. Also, his great willingness and ability to block can not be overlooked or ignored. I agree he has cases of the dropsies sometimes but did improved last year over his junior year performance and could continue to improve.

I see your point of getting a stretch the field guy but Smith is definetly not that guy. In fact, he is known as more of a precise route runner and possession receiver and not a big play, home run threat. He does not always play as fast as his combine time. Not to say I wouldn't mind at all having Smith, but hes not a vertical specialist by any means.

The difference between Bowe and Smith seem to be that Smith runs better routes but Bowe has bigger size. I dont mind us getting either of them.

I agree although I can't back it up. It does make sense that we'd have to trade the 4th round pick that is/was originally ours - not any 4th rd pick we have.

Euphoria 04-26-2007 03:01 PM

4th round pick

Colts are getting only the 27th pick in the 4th from us number 126. Its not up for negociations, its a RFA signing and that is the 'draft order' pick, the others are not optional.

NarwhalHunter 04-26-2007 03:18 PM

Between this and the Grant re-signing, today has been a serious coup for us. Now we can just hang out and pick BPA for depth and talent all day long. What a scary new feeling, but damn does it feel good!

Crusader 04-26-2007 03:24 PM

This has been a great day, secured a corner anda a good DE. Now I just hope Paul Posluszny is still on the board when we pick. Hes not the best athlete but seems to be a good character guy with great instincts.

JOESAM2002 04-26-2007 03:42 PM

As an old time fan (since they were announced) this has been one of the best days in my memory. Locked up 2 of the positions we needed so badly. The draft should be one of the best ever because we can pick for need instead of despiration. Loomis and Payton must be beside themselves right now.

Great job to the both of you.
